Disappointed in this TV. Had a 50 Vizio which I had no problems with. This one I notice that especially with sports there are black spots / shading that occurs very frequent. I think I have time to return this. Will not be replacing it with a Vizio.

Some Nice Features, Good Picture Takes Time

The Vizio M-Series Quantum 55 has some very nice features, but achieving a good picture takes a considerabe amount of time and tweaking. In addition, the proprietary operating system and lack of composite / component jacks will create some limitations for some users.
Let’s start with the nice features. Packaging of the TV was very secure, and removing it and the associated packaging from the box was very straightforward. I really liked that the stand legs were of a substantial metal material and that they could be set at two different heights. I chose the lower height because I would not have any accessories (such as a sound bar or Blu-Ray player) in front of the TV. The difference in height settings is about two inches, and the TV is very stable on the stand legs. In addition, the installation of the legs is error-proofed so you can't install the legs backwards or on the wrong side.
Upon first powering up the TV, setup was easy. Be sure to know your WiFi credentials if you are going to be using the smart features of the TV (you can also use a direct ethernet connection). Some software updates were required, which took about 10 minutes in total (there were three updates). Overall, I had the TV set up and running in well under 30 minutes. Vizio TVs do not use a Roku or Android interface, like many other smart TVs—they use a proprietary operating system. The TV does feature a lot of manufacturer pre-loaded apps and an app store; however, the apps are somewhat limited compared to what can be installed on an Android or Roku TV. However, most popular streaming service apps were available, so for most users, this will not be an issue.
Vizio TVs feature Watch Free+, which has an extraordinary number of free TV channels and movies. While I would not call Watch Free+ a cable replacement package, there are news and weather stations, larger local network stations, and a number of stations that play syndicated content. I found the Watch Free+ guide a bit limiting in looking ahead, but it’s better than no guide at all.
The inputs on this Vizio set include four HDMI ports (one is an ARC), ethernet, standard antenna, and USB. There is also a optical audio out and an analog audio out. For those of us with older electronics such as a VCR, gaming device, or even an older DVD player, there are no composite jacks or component jacks. This was a huge disappointment. I can purchase a converter for these devices, but that’s more cost and more wires to deal with. Adjusting the picture to an acceptable quality took a long time. None of the pre-programmed picture settings was even close to properly balancing good skin tones with the color of other content. I was finally able to achieve a good balance with the calibrated setting with Ambient Light Sensor Off, Backlight 90, Brightness 50, Contrast 50, Color 75, Tint 0, Sharpness 20, Coor Temp Normal, Black Detail Medium, and Active Full Array Medium. These settings also yielded bright whites and dark blacks. It took me longer to adjust the picture than to set up the TV!
One very strange phenomenon on this set--in the top right corner of the screen, when viewing through the HDMI or USB, there is a very small and barely noticeable quarter circle that is completely black with a purple outline. When not viewing through the HDMI or USB, the quater circle becomes larger in size and quite noticeable. This can't be dead pixels because the size of the quarter circle is not consistent between inputs. I am hoping it is a software glitch that will be fixed with a future update.
Overall, this TV does provide good value. The free content is a nice bonus, but the absence of composite/component jacks was a drawback. While I was able to finally achieve a good picture, adjusting it took a bit of time and patience.

I PICKED UP THIS TV ON OCT.1, 2021. I HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE EVER SINCE WITH VIZIO. THE HDMI-ARC PORT WILL NOT CONNECT TO THE NEW VIZIO M21D-H8R SOUN BAR THAT I PURCHASED AT THE SAME TIME. I KEEP CALLING AND THEY KEEP SAYING THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON A FIX, BUT THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THAT WILL HAPPEN? NOT ACCEPTABLE

I just took this out of the box to hang in my bedroom. While programming there was a big black line the whole time. Once everything was updated it still remained so I unplugged it and turned it back on. This made the line go away but it’s not reassuring that it won’t come back.

Good entry level 4k tv

Great TV for those who want good quality without the hefty pricetag you see for some sets. I tested a few 4k movies running on an Xbox Series X. The picture quality was really good, games ran very good on it as well. Set up was very easy, the remote is very simple as well. One thing to point out is trying this out on a laptop. I had experienced a bit of screen tearing when running on high settings. I think this may have more to do with calibrating the tv for PC play though. Overall good tv if you're on a budget.

Way way too much blooming. Vizio doesn't have a good algorithm. Especially when you lunch Youtube you see middle of the tv with that nasty blooming it's quite annoying. For the price it's way too much. The new tv remote isn't that impressing sometimes it doesn't understand me with the new voice input.

Interface is not user friendly. Very lame & slow processor. Doesn't have ABC, Amazon Music nor can one add Apps. The sound while using NBC app was extremely low at 100. Antenna scanned channels were limited. So not worth the price!

Hello Martha, thank you for taking time to leave us your feedback today. There could be a few things that cause lag or apps to not respond correctly, and I would like to learn more so we can assist with troubleshooting. You are not able to manually download additional apps, however new apps are added to the platform often. If you find there is an app you want to watch that is not on SmartCast you may be able to cast it using Chromecast or Apple AirPlay from your phone or mobile device. In regards to local channels, a couple things like the placement of the antenna, hills or buildings near your home, and other environmental factors could determine the channels that are and are not found by your antenna. If you have any questions or need any assistance, we are available through text message, chat, or over the phone. Just go to support.VIZIO.com and click on ‘Contact Us’.
UPDATED RESPONSE: The Amazon Music app has been added and is now available on all VIZIO SmartCast TVs!

Vizio seems to be going downhill...
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The positives: Great overall PQ at 1080p and 4k, vibrant and accurate colors, and very deep blacks.
The negatives: The upscaling of any content less than 1080p looks bad (specifically 720p [cable box] and 480p [dvd's]), even compared to my cheap TCL 4 Series. I'm aware this is a common problem with Vizio TV's, but I expected such a simple issue to be fixed on these newer models. No other brand has problems upscaling those resolutions, regardless of whether or not it's a budget model or a super expensive one.
The viewing angles are also a problem. Mind you, I love VA panels due to the high contrast, and I've never found the viewing angles to be an issue. This TV, however, has the absolute worst viewing angles I've seen on a display. Far worse than any of my other VA displays. The image looks washed out just going a tad bit off center, and it just gets worse from there. There's a feature to "enhance viewing angles" but it doesn't actually seem to do anything.
HDR is quite pointless on this too. The local dimming is poor, causing any bright areas of the screen to have halos and moving objects have long trails following them. The blacks are already so deep enough without local dimming and you don't get the haloing, making it feel pointless to use it at all. The brightness is also quite low for a HDR display, so if that's your reason for buying this, don't.
Lastly, the smart interface is extremely slow and buggy. It randomly blacks out when browsing through the apps or when changing inputs and the TV restarts randomly. When it does work, it's just super slow. I've heard of these issues with Vizio's Smartcast OS, as with their upscaling, but it's far worse than I thought it would be. You also can't download any new apps, but considering how bad "Smartcast" is, you're better off just hooking up a Roku or something else.
I expected more from Vizio. I used to love their TV's as I've owned many older Vizio models, but this is my first Smart TV from them and I'm extremely disappointed, especially for a display at this price point. If/when Vizio ever fixes these problems, then I might give them another chance. Until then, I'm just going to return this and grab me a Samsung or something.
