Customers frequently mention the superb picture quality, vibrant colors, and smooth refresh rate as significant strengths of the 65" Class P-Series Quantum Series LED 4K UHD SmartCast TV. However, some users have reported issues with the HDMI 2.1 ports and SmartCast software needing improvement. Concerns have also been raised regarding the variable refresh rate (VRR) functionality and blooming. The price-to-performance ratio is frequently praised.

Went back to Vizio because we had old ones that were still dependable, but outdated. This had issues out of the box, constantly needing reset and updated. Took it back and the salesman said his floor models were the same so we ordered a Samsung, but they were out of them 2 weeks. On refund, lost our $60 bonus points and after 2 years same tv back, still freezes cast or on a high resolution ip (like xbox one) and switch to cable. A restart, difficult to restart, clears it. Check for updates often. Great picture when it works. Poor native sound.

At first everything worked well but suddenly one night I noticed some black pixels that would appear on a regular basis. This continued no matter what I tried. Of course I did the usual, rebooted the internet connection, tried different apps and stations, turned off the tv , etc…….nothing worked.
The next day everything was fine again. Not sure what the future brings

I'm going to start off by stating that Vizio has been a brand that was on my do not buy list for a long time. My previous Vizio TV a 55" entry level model lasted just past the one year mark and would no longer turn on (no picture). I usually purchase the extended warranty on things like this but did not on that one, lesson learned. This model has everything you could ever need in a big screen TV. Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG, Dolby Atmos Passthrough, VIZIO SmartCast, Chromecast built-in (more on that later), Apple AirPlay, 2 HDMI 2.1 2160 @ 60fps inputs 1 with eARC, 2 HDMI 2.1 2160 @ 120fps.
After setup, the first thing I tried was hooking an AppleTV 4K box to it and that was a no go. For some reason it just would not work (tried different ports and cables). Had to install the AppleTV app. When watching a 4K movie from my VUDU account the photos of the screen attached are what happens when quitting out of the app. Casting from the Google TV (previously Play Movies & TV) app directly to the built in Chromecast is hit and miss, mostly a miss. This unit appears to have a very weak wi-fi connection, TV is maybe 20' away from router. Casting works just fine when casting to my Nvidia Shield connected to the TV. Not my preferred way of watching something anyway so not a big deal for me. HDR doesn't work when casting from Google TV anyway. With all the minor quirks this TV has, it's still a darn fine box. The picture quality is amazing, the interface is a no brainer and initial setup out of the box was super simple.

I received my P65Q9-H1 yesterday. I’ve been really excited about this TV since on paper it seems really nice. I currently have a 65 inch X900H and this TV was supposed to be for my second room. Because I have a X900H and it’s similar in price range, I’ll be comparing it to that. I’m really not biased either way and I’m trying to give my objective opinion on everything.
Initial impressions when unboxing were that the box had a lot less packaging than the Sony. It was thinner and lighter which was nice. The actual process of unboxing it was more difficult than the Sony. You have to take the whole Vizio out and lay it flat to attach the legs. The Sony was supported by the box while you attach legs to it. Anyways, that’s a minor gripe.
The legs are almost the full width of the TV. They have notches on them and only fit in one way. However, I was able to install them reversed without any difficulty. Even though there’s a notch, it easily goes in the other way lol. If I hadn’t reversed them, this TV wouldn’t have fit on my console.
The remote feels about the same build quality compared to the Sony. There’s no voice button on it, like I had expected before.
The actual TV looks nice and has a nice aluminum trim around it. Back is all plastic. The feet look and feel cheap. They have to be screwed in as well.
Setup was simple enough but not as polished as the Sony. The SmartCast interface is kinda laggy and not very aesthetically pleasing. I just got through it quickly because I’ll be using my 4K Apple TV box.
HDMI port 3/4 are labeled 4K 120hz. The power cord goes in on the TV on the opposite side.
Once everything was set up, I opened planet earth from Netflix on my Apple TV. The picture quality is stunning. The TV gets really bright and highlights look great. I could see all the stars clearly on the intro scene. Motion handling is great too (with the judder setting at 8), although not as perfect as the Sony.
I then loaded up Avengers Endgame and watched the fighting scene at the end of the movie. Again, this picture quality is a big step up from the Sony. Highlights really stand out and motion handling is good. The TV gets really bright.
Super excited so far. But unfortunately, that’s all the positives I have to share right now.
I then turned on my PC which has an AMD 5700XT. One of the main reasons I bought this TV was because I remember it being advertised as getting the pro gaming engine which I thought included freesync.
When my PC was on, there was really bad input lag. I switched to game mode and it got a little better. I then switched another setting on called “ultra” low latency or something (I forget exactly what it was called) and input lag improved to the Sony level. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get freesync to work no matter what I did. I’ve been really upset about this as this was one of the main reasons I bought the TV.
After using the TV for some more time, I noticed a lot of little problems. Here’s some other negative points I’ve noticed:
1) My picture settings reset everytime I change inputs - hopefully this will resolve with a software update.
2) when launching YouTube or hbo max, the local dimming makes the actual logo look nice but there’s a surrounding halo and then the rest of the screen looks brown. It’s really bad and the only way to get rid of it is to turn off local dimming. I don’t think this is a problem with my panel because when I display a full gray picture, there is no DSE or vertical or color banding. Maybe it gets resolved with a future update? Who knows.
3) This TV was advertised to have freesync early on in 2020. I’m not finding any recent evidence supporting this and my TV definitely does not work with freesync on my PC. On further inspection, the Best Buy listing shows that VRR is exclusive to the Xbox on this TV. Idk if that’s just because the PS4 doesn’t support VRR and maybe that will change when the PS5 comes out later this year, but they also promised Freesync and there’s no evidence showing that the TV actually launched with Freesync (was the main reason I got this panel)
4) There’s odd glitches everywhere. Sometimes when I change inputs, the entire screen flashes green. Other times, the TV doesn’t power on through CEC when I turn on my Apple TV. It just doesn’t feel like a finished or polished product.
5) If I turn on my PC before turning the TV on, then there’s really bad ghosting even when just moving the mouse around the screen. The colors are also completely washed out. When this happens, I have to soft reset the TV to get things back to normal and when I do that, it loses my picture settings for the pc input.
In conclusion, the actual picture quality is beautiful and HDR looks really really nice. Like really noticeably better than my 65inch X900H. However, the X900H just “works”. This one has odd issues here and there. I got a good panel on the vizio because there’s no DSE or banding. Motion handling is great, although not as good as the Sony. There’s some artifacts and stutters here and there in some scenes that I didn’t see on the Sony.
While it is true that a lot of the issues I’ve had so far are likely software and can be resolved with updates, I don’t really trust Vizio. They’ve been really bad at communicating this year especially and the whole Freesync ordeal has me really upset. They advertised freesync early on but in the actual specs of the TV now on their website and on the Best Buy website, Freesync isn’t mentioned anywhere. I also wish my first day with the TV was better and I hadn’t had all these issues, because it’s put a sour taste in my mouth.
I’ll be returning the Vizio and getting another X900H. I don’t want to hold on to this TV hoping for a software update that may not actually fix the issues I’ve been having. The Q80t was also a contender but it has poor game mode performance and lacks Dolby vision.

The 4k her picture looks amazing. Deep blacks and amazing color. On the unit I got I noticed some blooming and sometimes won't connect to some apps. Even completely froze up on me. So I had to unplug and plug it back in. When watching lower content some dark scenes become very pixelated. Same issue with my 2018 Vizio p series. Also volume drops outs it doesn't stay the same throughout. Overall when having the right content this tv is amazing. Very bright almost to bright for dark room and does put out a lot of heat but that is expected from a VA panel. I will be returning my unit and getting a replacement to see if my issues are fixed. If not going with a Sony. For the money you pay for this tv this should not be an issue. But I do like it.

Bought this after returning a Sony 900h. I was going to buy the P series originally, but the sales person said the sony was going on sale and said I should get the 900h. I was not impressed with the picture on the 900h even after tuning it evey way possible. the P series has a much better picture, and is perfect for game systems. 120hz works fine, just need to turn off the VRR on the tv. Other than an OLED this tv has the best picture avalible and is the perfect gaming tv!!! extremely happy I decided to return the Sony and go with the P series Vizio!! highly recommend!

Great TV for Console Gamers

We bought this TV specifically for use with console gaming. This TV has a HDMI 2.1 port, 120 HZ refresh rate and VRR for the new consoles. Vizio has regularly come up with firmware updates for this TV to improve the viewing experience further.
This TV is easily one of the better TVs we had. With proper calibration, the picture quality is great, sharp and bright. Blacks look pretty dark and contrast is pretty good. Only complaint I have is with the lack of voice command on the remote and with the Smartcast system itself, which can probably be improved further.
Overall, there might be better TVs out there for gaming and viewing purposes, but we went with this one and it has not disappointed.

Great TV with HDMI 2.1

If you are looking for a reasonably priced TV with HDMI 2.1, VRR, great picture, and the ability to play new consoles in the future, then your choice right now is between this and the Sony X900H. This TV can be anywhere from 200-400 dollars less, and for that amount it's more than worth it. Even at the same price it has better picture and more features.
The picture is great, with deep colors and blacks. Contrast is very good, and brightness is great. I have seen multiple X900H TVs that don't look as good as this TV (and I've had 2). SDR content looks good, but 4k HDR content looks amazing especially from my computer. Movies and TV look great at 4k HDR, motion is great, and the TV gets really dark. Watching a movie like The Dark Knight in 4k HDR really shows off the amazing contrast that the X900H can't match. TV lottery does apply though as my TV has some dirty screen effect, but it's not horrible and never noticeable except for all grey screens. Also blooming is just OK in the very dark around text, the X900H might be a little better on that. You'd have to go to much more expensive TVs to get much better or down to TVs without all of the features this one has.
Externally it looks great in the living room, and I like having a real remote as compared to a Roku one. Sound is fine, but everyone who cares about sound will get a soundbar anyway. Overall it's a great value right now with new features and great picture with a lower price.
One note if you want to mount it, don't put the feet on it first temporarily. I did, and the screws stripped out so that I could not get them off, so I had to return it and get another. If they had spent 4 cent on hex bolts then that would have solved that problem.

Herein is my tale of sadness and disappointment. Recently I decided to buy a new 4K TV in the $1000 range. I decided to get a Sony 900H which had just gone on sale at BB for $999. I have had much satisfaction with Sony TVs in the past. Alas, I did not get satisfaction with the 900H. It IS a great TV and at $1K a real bargain, see my Sony 900H review here on this site. However after 9 days the audio started breaking up really bad with the 900H and after resetting to factory defaults the audio problem went away until the next day, Reset again and it worked ok until the next day when the audio went bonkers once again, I put my old TV back online and every thing was fine. So back to BB for an exchange. Realize I am a Lazy Senior and taking back a 65inch TV is not my idea of fun. BB told me they had sold out of Sony TV 900H and it would take a few weeks t get one. I could either get my money back or get a different TV, my choice, thank goodness for BB.
I decided to get this Vizio P65Q9, it was $200 more than the Sony but looked good. I have had it now for almost 2 weeks. The picture is superb, better than the Sony 900H, However I had to tweak most of the picture settings, whereas the Sony was near perfect outta the box. The Sony also has superior software compared to the Vizio, no comparison. Sony rules in easy of use and bells and whistles. My main concern with the Vizio is the apparent lack of customer service. I tried to register my Vizio on their website and kept getting serial number error, even tho I was inputting the correct number. So I tried the Text option for customer support, no response. Vizio's website almost gives me a feeling of abandonment. Some links do not work and forget about any help from them. Fortunately I really like the TV, it is very good, excellent actually in the real world. However Vizios lack of customer support gives me real concern. Because of the holiday period I have until January to return the Vizio. As of today I have no issue other than the lack of support from Vizio. There is also much dissatisfaction with Vizio support on the internet. I loved the Sony 900H but I got a lemon. I like the Vizio, no lemon so far but my gut says be careful as if I have a problem do not expect help from Vizio???? I have 2 months before my BB return period is up. What should I decide to do? I know Best Buy will take care of me even if Vizio ignores me.

This TV has been awesome since day one and it is still rocking it today. Great image, color and color callibration features. Good sound from integrated speakers. Also works well with Chromecast and Airdrop screen sharing features. You won't be wrong if you buy a Vizio TV. Great picture quality especially when taking into account the price. Some issues existed at launch of these TVs, but most have been fixed. Vizio still needs to fix certain HDMI 2.1 tech with next gen consoles and GPUs, but they have fixed the sound issues with HDMI and blooming. TV gets very bright when comparing to anything older than 2 years. If you own something from last year, maybe go for the PQX series for even brighter HDR.
