Customers are delighted by the SmartCast™ 3.1-Channel Soundbar System's sound quality, with many praising its unexpectedly great sound despite its compact size. The subwoofer is also a hit, with users appreciating the strong bass it delivers. Setup is a breeze, and the price point is seen as excellent for the value offered. On the downside, some users have experienced connectivity issues, particularly with Bluetooth, and there have been complaints about the remote control not functioning properly.

We are not big movie watchers, mostly regular programming and lots of news/talk shows, so a 5.1 system was not going to be useful for us. Besides that, the additional side/rear speakers would necessitate running wires all around the room. This 3.1 product seems fine so far. My only dislike is the volume control, when transferred to the main remote control, is not very nuanced. There seem to be big jumps from level to level in volume. We have also lost that connection a couple of times now, when the main remote can no longer control volume or muting. I have had to reset it twice in two weeks now, and that itself is a challenge to get it to take. The Bluetooth subwoofer is easily hidden, only needs 3 inches in height under something or can be stood up against the wall. I put ours under the small cabinet below the TV.

The sound and subwoofer are really good but for some reason, the sound keeps disappearing in the middle of the soundbar like when I'm playing on my PS4 and every time I press the PS icon menu button, the sound keeps losing. I had to reset and press the "sound source" button to fix it. I don't want to do that every time I press the PS icon menu button. But it works fine when your watching movies. Other than that, left and right audio are working fine. It's even damaged at the middle part of the soundbar when it arrived at my home. I'm disappointed.

Bought this Vizio 3.1 soundbar for new Vizio 50" M series in bedroom. Went with Vizio soundbar based on good reviews for sound quality, nice design with slim wireless Subwoofer and to ensure compatibility and ease of integration. FAILS- This confirmed after multiple sessions with Tech Support chats and calls. 1. HDMI does NOT pass 4K HDR despite QA statements on this site that say it will. 2. The Soundbar/remote cannot learn the remote codes of the Vizio M series TV so you still end up using 2 remotes for soundbar and TV. PASS- 1.Design is very nice and matches the Vizio M series look. 2.Wireless Subwoofer slips easily under the bed. 3.Sound quality is excellent.
Frustrating to find such incompatibility within the Vizio product line. Also unacceptable that there is misinformation that it IS compatible when IT IS NOT!
After ridiculous wait times on hold due to Covid we are still unable to get a call back for return/exchange so we just gave up on Vizio/Best Buy support. My work-around is just use optical audio out from TV direct to Soundbar and use 4K/HD HDMI Video out of Roku Ultra into TV 4K HDMI. So just like the old days we use 2 remotes. We love our 65" Mseries in Living Room and the new 50" in Bedroom but hey Vizio! What's with the Soundbar? Disappointed.

This thing sounds great and is good for a small to medium room. I use it outside in a setup on our back porch and it gets plenty loud. The sub has really deep bass. One thing I learned right away is that you need to turn off “eco mode” to keep the sound bar from silencing the sub at lower volumes. For a while I thought the sub was becoming unpaired all the time, but that was the cause.

I've been weary of sound bars. How can something so small sound good? I love home theater products and I love surround sound.
I plan on finishing our basement and building out a home theater. But in the meantime we have our tv setup on our main floor with our kitchen. So I wanted something that sounded good and looked good. This sound bar and sub woofer blew me away. I honestly didn't think it would sound as good as it does. I also never thought Vizio would be leading the way with sound. I've been really impressed and recommend to anyone looking for a budget sound bar. Movies, TV, and especially games sound great.
I had a small problem with the iOS app detecting the sound bar. But I was able to figure it out after reinstalling the app. I haven't had a problem since and the iOS app is pretty decent.
Our family has enjoyed the built in smart cast feature. We cast Spotify to it and it works and sounds great.
Overall this was a great choice.

I wanted something small and almost hidden in my new home. The sub was the seller of this system. Its fits perfect under a sofa chair and its wireless! All you can see is the bar on my entertainment center. The sound overall is great! especially for the low price of this system. I just wish that I could add the rear surround speakers down the road, but I'm not sure its an option.

After almost 11 years my theater-in-a-box system died. I researched the whole gamut of systems from $100 soundbars to $1000 theater systems. Based on the size of my living room I decided to give this a shot. So far have been pleasantly surprised!! We placed the subwoofer behind the couch (with the thin profile it fit awesome) and the 38“ bar sits nicely in front of the tv. The sound is excellent and in some movies the bass will actually make you smile. There are a lot of custom settings within the system and the app works pretty well on my Android phone. To be honest the only real criticism, but in 2017 I consider it a big one, is the remote is terrible. It is not intuitive in the least and for a home theater device I am shocked it is not backlit!!! Other than that I would recommend this to anyone.

You can't beat Vizio's quality for the price, in all their products. Setup was extremely easy, sound quality is a 7/10, and the slim wireless sub is fantastic. Certainly a noticeable audio quality difference from the Bose and Sonos soundbars, however.

I purchased this sound bar for the TV in my bedroom.
It has an awesome sound and everything works flawlessly. The app is user friendly and the Bluetooth connects to my phone with no issues. I’d recommend it but I think it’s discontinued.

Nice compact size. I wanted to have TV and speaker on wall with all the wires hidden. It looks great with just the TV and speaker on the wall. The bluetooth sub connected and works perfectly. The sound is very good for such a small footprint. Much better than just the TV speakers.

First Sound Bar

This is the first sound bar I've purchased and I did quite a bit of research before I decided on this model. I actually was interested in the Vizio SB4551-D5 but thought this version was worth the cheaper price. Overall I'm very happy with the sound quality of this sound bar. I feel that I've gotten what I paid for and hope to have it for year.
The deciding factor of the Vizio model over other comparable brands was the form fit and function of the subwoofer. The fact that I was able to place it under an end table was such a nice feature I couldn't pass it up. I would certainly recommend this to someone who needs a sound bar without breaking the bank.

Overall I am very pleased with this Visio sound bar. The bass is phenomenal! The sound quality can compete with setups that are twice the price. This would be a 5 star product if only the sound wasn't distorted when using the cast function.

The sound from this unit is great. The operation could be a little less troublesome. You have to find the remote for it every time you turn on your intertainment center. Then select what you want to do. Other systems stay on and is ready for the last system selected. But, all in all it was a good buy!

This 3.1 soundbar and subwoofer system is compact, but capable of knocking you out of bed! The subwoofer is only 3.5" thick, when laid on its side, and produces lows that rival 8" speakers in big boxes! I love the wireless connection between the soundbar and sub, and have had no issue with them connecting. The soundbar is so small, only 2.25" tall and deep, and can handle all the volume I can take without losing quality. At first, I thought 400 bucks was a bit pricy for a non speaker company brand of speakers, but Vizio proved their worth. I've bought a few TV's and a Blu-ray player from them and , except for the Blu-ray players cheesy remote, was happy with each. I guess that's why I keep buying them! I'm slightly disappointed with the smartcast TV no longer supporting Amazon video, but just received my 2nd gen fire stick, with Alexa built in, and can now enjoy my prime videos again. Here's my only complaint: when using the hdmi-arc connection, you cannot pass 4k through it, only 1080. So, if your using a 4k Blu-ray player or Xbox one, connect that directly to the TV and run the optical into the soundbar. I stream Netflix through smartcast, have Comcast hi-def through my "good" port, my Xbox through the Arc, and fire stick through the "better" port. All are using the optical, except the Xbox. I can use the Xbox to stream, but I prefer it not be used for that purpose. The fire stick was ten times cheaper, and searching with Alexa is much easier!

After about 4 weeks, me and the sound bar are making nice-nice now. I know what it wants and I know what it needs. This Vizio wants volume and lots of it!! It wants to play high quality audio. It wants to be a monster and shake the house to death. Sorry plain ol' TV audio...this sound bar does not like you. Out of the box I kinda struggled to get the sound bar dialed in with TV programming. One channel would sound okay...then the next channel would sound small, hollow, and tinny. It is a bit of a leaning curve trying to balance out the treble, bass, and subwoofer. So, TV is not a fair exercise for this accurate sound bar. TV is not giving you much audio quality to work with. That being said...if you turn it up...you will hear your TV very nicely. Now, let's poke the bear...switch over to a Blu-ray movie...watch out this animal is now loose! This is where the sound bar wants to be!! This is where it has earned an "excellent" rating. I kept working with this sound bar because I only paid $149 and you won't beat it all the way up to it's normal $299 price. And it probably can't be beaten up to $399. My sound bar was good...no buzzing, no popping, no issue connecting to the subwoofer. You all have heard the horror stories. As my relationship with this sound bar evolves...I might just love this thing! I repeat...it can't be beaten for $149.

I bought this for my parents as a Christmas gift and they absolutely love it. It was very simply to hook up with an HDMI cable and the power cord and it was done. All required cables are provided in the box too. The subwoofer just has a power cord and connects via Bluetooth. Literally took me ten minutes. The sound is incredible and the slim subwoofer packs enough punch to make any movie more enjoyable.
