Can't get the subwoofer to sync when turning it on.. it initially synced when setting up but now I have to turn it on and off about 30 times for it to sync when watching tv.

We purchased this item and it worked fine for a couple of months and then the sound starting going off and on. We took it to Best Buy (Geek Squad) to get fixed and it could not be fixed so we got a refund. We purchased another one and we are having the same issues again. This time it only took 2 weeks for the issue to start again. We will be returning and purchasing a different soundbar.

Its a joke that they can say this works with google. Also my remote for my TV or VCR or whatever from the 1980's is better then this remote. I cannot believe they provide this remote for a TV that cost this much. I wont be buying Vizio anything ever again.

You can also control volume levels, mute volume, and power on and off through voice commands to the Google Assistant. Constantly dropped sound when changing channels. Had to wait a long time for sound to come on or I would have to shut off and turn the sound bar back on. The sub woofer would make a "boom,boom,boom" sound when changing channels. Returned to store to buy another brand

This is not a good surround sound unit. Sound rarely comes out of the satellite speakers unless its music. Unless there is some secret setting, I am not happy with this unit.

The VIZIO S4551-D5 has a setting that can be adjusted through the VIZIO SmartCast Application on a compatible iOS or Android device or from the included remote called Surround or Surnd. This setting, when enabled, will have all inputs produce a 5.1 surround sound signal on most content.

I have no complaints about the sound quality. My son and I spent 2 hours at Best Buy evaluating sound bars and this is the one that we kept going back to. The store didn't have a remote for us to evaluate. We are very disappointed with the remote. It is not visible at all in the dark and it is only barely visible in a lighted room. If this is not normal, then our remote is defective.

I bought this as a upgrade to my SB 4051. The sound is horrible in comparison to SB 4051. All the speakers have been downsized except for the sub. Save your money and give the SB 4051 a try.

The audio being off can also be adjusted through the Lip Sync option in the SmartCast Mobile App. Most TV's also have a Lip Sync option as well. This is a not a straight plug and play type of sound bar. I had to work a little hard to make all the options work with my LG TV. The Optical port was nearly plug and play and worked immediately. HDMI-ARC was another story. It required specific settings on the TV side to make the HDM-ARC to work. Bluetooth pairing was also not straight forward. Cast required some work too, but, if you have the patience to work the issues through, then the quality of sound is pretty impressive. The sound bar does give real Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound and a deep bass that gives a theater like sound even in a large room. I could probably take one star off because this sound bar is really not straight forward plug and play for the HDMI-ARC and the bluetooth connectivity options, but just for the sound quality, features, price, and value, I will still give this a five star. Definitely go for this sound bar if you want quality and value, but you have got to be a bit tech savvy or have someone who is a bit tech savvy to help you set this up.

This would be my 3rd vizio sound bar. Had the first gen system which was great and upgraded to this one. I bought the 40"version first but the sound wasnt to my liking so returned it and picked the 45" version and does make a big difference bigger and louder. Im happy with my purchase now only issue is the rear speakers do nt get too loud especially the right speaker for some reason. If they fix that it would be a 5 all day

LOL sound hound is what I nick named it, don't steal it. OK so now for the product review, just simply awesome. One must remember to calibrate then write a review, because right out of the box will disappoint you. With that said Ive had this product for about two and a half weeks and Im in love. Plus its matched with my new vizier p series display so that makes it divine. So as of now Im listening to music via cast from pandora, which the sound bar is on the music input and once again its amazing. The bass OMG with the new low frequency decimals this thing freaking thumps, again I repeat please calibrate then review. Now once you've updated the firmware on the sounder things should move pretty smoothly after that point. Pairing the tablet or your smartphone seems to be the only tricky part,other than that yes and yes again I recommend this product.Oh yeah best buy is awesome at price matching, it was only 400 after that,double win.

Clearing confusion with 4k output

For the confusion regarding outputting 4k,
Does it have 4K passthrough? - No
Will you be able to play 4K HDR content? - Yes
Short answer for it is ARC
The way I have it hooked up to my Samsung 60 KS8000 is-
- All hdmi devices(Roku 4 HDR, PS4 Pro, Xfinity X1) are connected directly to my TV(via the samsung one connect box)
- The soundbar is connected to the TV via the HDMI ARC port.
The devices output 4k content directly to the TV. With CEC enabled, the tv returns the sound to the soundbar via ARC(no delay in gaming at all). I like this setup better than passthrough as there wouldn't be as many ports available on the soundbar. I can control the soundbar volume from any of the device remotes. Vizio remote is still needed for individual speaker settings. Since my tv has only a single oneConnect cable, I don't have to worry about multiple hdmi cables sticking out of the tv.
As for the soundbar, all in all, it does a great job. Great thing about it is the smaller size in thickness of the soundbar as well as the rear speakers, when compared to that of the older 38/40 series. Flat subwoofer is not as filling as the cube one would have been(tested friend's older model). Keeping it flat down would cause the whole floor/couch to shake even on lower subwoofer settings. Keeping it standing gives better overall control of bass levels as well as more room filling bass.
