Perfect solution for a replacement Roku remote

For the longest time I had lost my remote to my Roku Ultra. While I could still use the Roku remote app, it was very inconvenient since I had to have my phone with me every time. I found another solution using my Harmony remote, but even that was an inconvenience since it didn't work well with my Sonos system. While I was at my local Best Buy, I came across this universal Roku remote, which stated it worked with my Roku and previous versions. The set up was very easy and it recognized my Roku and TV with no issues at all. I was very pleased to find out that it also controls power to my TV and volume control to my Sonos bar. So in hindsight, I am now only using ONE remote and life is back to normal.

I love it and I recommend it. It’s simple to program and I like the idea that with one small control, I can turn on/ off TV. Also controls the volume too.

Great upgrade over IR remote - mostly

I have a TCL 55" R615 Roku TV that came with the basic IR remote. While the IR remote works okay, it's not great (and frankly outdated), having to hunt for the correct spot and aim directly at the TV just right to get it to recognize key presses. This new remote completely solves that! You can have it in any orientation or completely covered up, and it works every time. The voice features are still limited, but useful enough. I wouldn't buy this just for the voice feature. The feel in the hand is much better as well. It feels much nicer and more premium than the original IR remote. Setup was super simple. I just turned on my Roku TV with the old remote, popped the included batteries into the new remote, and it was instantly recognized by my TV and connected automatically, no fiddling about with pairing, buttons, menus, etc. One thing to note, though, aside from its lack of headphone jack for private listening (a feature I don't personally use), is that this new remote has no IR at all. That means you can NOT use it with your IR based home theater receiver or sound bar unless it has HDMI and HDMI-CEC capabilities. I use a Denon AVR-1712 home theater receiver with HDMI-CEC, so this remote works just fine for controlling volume (albeit a little slow). However, my sister's TCL 55" R613 comes with this newer remote included (which led me down this upgrade path), and she has a sound bar that only has SPDI/F optical and analog coaxial audio connections, no HDMI at all, which requires an IR remote to control volume. This new remote does NOT control her sound bar at all, she still has to use her old sound bar IR remote along with the Roku remote. This is definitely a bummer, and an oversight in my opinion. It would have been nice (and easily worth another $5-10) if they could have still included IR in this remote for controlling legacy non-HDMI devices, something the Apple TV 4th gen remote does well. The Apple TV 4th gen (a.k.a. HD or 4K) remote doesn't require line-of-sight for the Apple TV or HDMI-CEC devices, but still has built-in IR to control IR-only devices at the same time. I use the Apple TV HD in my bedroom with an older 2011 LG 55LW6500 1080p HDTV and an old Yamaha 5.1 receiver via optical SPDI/F (no HDMI), and the Apple TV remote works great controlling the Apple TV without line-of-sight, turning on the LG TV via HDMI-CEC, and controlling volume on the IR-only Yamaha receiver, all with one remote. All in all, I am very happy with this remote for the price. It is a no-brainer cheap upgrade for your Roku TV, but only if you don't require IR for controlling other devices or don't mind using multiple remotes (and don't require the private listening feature). I'm knocking off a star for no support with legacy non-HDMI devices that many people are still using, but it's still a great upgrade none-the-less.

This remote uses RF, so you don’t have to point it at the TV to use it. The voice functionality is very helpful. Highly recommended!

Needed to replace a Roku remote. Didn't want to mess with the phone app (phone isn't always near by) so went looking for the new remote. This was an upgrade from the previous (i.e., voice, tv control, etc). Very nice. Easy to pair with the Roku and worked like a champ.

We had an older Roku 3 hooked up to our bedroom TV and were always wanting to figure out a solution to not have to juggle two remotes for controlling the Roku and then controlling the TV volume and power. This was the answer! I've always loved the feel and compact size of the Roku remotes, especially the newer ones that are a bit slimmer and have rubber buttons instead of the old glossy plastic they used to use. It's very lightweight, but it's my favorite remote to use. Best of all, it controls our small bedroom Samsung TV's volume automatically with the side volume buttons and turns it on and off with the power button. Now we are down to just this single Roku remote for our bedroom setup and it works every time!

I got the TCL 50” 4K Roku TV and was disappointed to see it came with an IR remote. Having to point the remote at the TV was pretty frustrating, as even then it only worked a percentage of the time. I was excited to see they released this as it is a huge improvement over the one that came with my TV. This one connects via Bluetooth and works a lot better, since you no longer need to point it at the TV. You can use it in the kitchen to lower the volume with no issues at all. The build quality is also better. This one has a more premium feel to it, and a heavier weight. The play/pause button is bigger so you know where your thumb is without having to look at the remote. The buttons feel nicer in general, and the inclusion of a voice button is a nice addition as well, although Roku does have a lot of limitations with voice controls compared to Apple and Android TV. No private listening on this, but I would recommend connecting Bluetooth headphones directly to the Roku for that anyway. It takes 2 AAA batteries, and came with Duracell branded ones. Last but not least, at this time, the channel shortcut buttons included are Netflix, ESPN+, Hulu, and Sling. The voice control button should open the other apps too. For $20, I would recommend this as a replacement over the IR version.

very nice to be able to talk to it but hopefully it understands your commands. would be nice if one page listed all commands it comprehends. pointers are out there for commands but seems they are strung from a to Z and from here to there. Batteries dont last long to speak of. considering getting rechargeable. would be nice if numbers 0-9 were on the remote. if watching live tv all you can do is click the channel button each time. maybe a backlight for night time use?

MY DOG CALLIE THOUGHT MY OLD REMOTE WAS A TOY SO SHE DEMOLISHED IT. I WAS REALLY UPSET WITH HER TO SAY THE LEAST. SO I DID WHAT ANY OTHER GOOD DOG MOTHER WOULD DO I WENT TO "BEST BUY" TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE. BUT MUCH TO MY SUPRISE MY NEW REMOTE IS VOICE ACTIVATED. MY OLD ONE WAS NOT, SO MAYBE MY CALLIE GIRL KNEW SOMETHING I DIDN'T. ANYHOW, I JUST LOVE MY NEW REMOTE. IT'S EASY TO USE AND I JUST LOVE ASKING FOR MY FAVORITE CHANNELS. A GOOD PURCHASE FOR SURE!

This remote feels much nicer and higher quality than the original that came with the tv. All buttons and the voice control work fine with my tv. One weird thing is I can't seem to set a specific volume with the voice, I can say "volume up/down" and it increases/decreases the volume by 3, but can't specify "volume 50" which is a shame, but, oh well. Con: A bit pricey for a remote control (I have the original 6 series (615) model, and this voice remote works fine with it.)

This is a nice update to the remote that just died (after several hard years). It is a bit flatter and has a nice textured surface to make it easier to grip. They have added a volume control for the TV, which saves me juggling 2 remotes during a binge-watch session. One feature they removed is the headphone jack, which I actually like having. Something to keep in mind, but other than that this updated remote is a win-win.

Needed to replace the original after battery corrosion during period of non-use, so not aware, and destroyed it. Original replacement and works as expected. Keep an eye on the batteries, particularly if use a universal remote like a Harmony and the original remotes for devices are secondary to quickly resolve issues when the universal remote becomes 'confused' or easier to do with the original.

This remote uses WiFi rather than IR to control your Roku streaming box/ stick and Roku TV which means you don't have to point directly at your device to control it. This remote also has both Vol +/- and Mute buttons, as well as power on/off and voice control buttons. this is now controlling my Roku Premiere and the Samsung TV it is connected to. No more having to use 2 remotes just to control volume and power on/off! Definitely worth the money if you're looking for a better Roku remote!
