Very Functional (Mostly) As Advertised
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This VTech system is a two camera live remote monitoring system - designed specifically for LIVE monitoring and NOT for unattended surveillance. Included are two cameras with a nice and sturdy 7" color tablet-style monitor with lots of features and controls. When paired with the VTech mobile app, the cameras transmit impressive (up to) 1080p live video feeds to your device (or devices!). First of all, I have a few real problems with the information represented on the box that are not insignificant: (1) The cameras do NOT have 360° pan capability. The eye-shaped camera "ball" allows the cameras to tilt (not through 180° but impressive nonetheless) and the camera is mounted on a cylindrical base which rotates back-and-forth from "center" but the video imaging does not cover a full 360° horizontal arc. However, I'm sure that most people would have these cameras mounted on a wall (hardware included) or near a wall - so 360° coverage shouldn't be needed or expected. Still...I'm not sure why VTech chose to misrepresent this specification. (2) The box advertises that "it" is the (large type) No.1 (smaller type) Baby Monitors Brand by the (microscopic type) NPD Group, Inc.. According to Wikipedia, the NPD Group "measures how consumers shop across all channels, sourcing data from both retailers and consumers to quantify sales, share, distribution, and velocity" - they measure shopping information and NOT quality information. So since, at least while I'm typing, this system is not available for purchase, NPD Group's historical tracking of VTech buying data shouldn't be what I perceive to be a validation of past or future quality (but it looks great on the box). Similarly, since this product is not yet available, surely it did NOT win (?) the 9 out of 10 recommended (?) WOMEN'S CHOICE AWARD 2023 which is also emblazoned on the box. (3) The imaging of the 720p HD 7" monitor on the box suggests that the included device provides an unrealistic expectation that is not meted out in reality. I really dislike misrepresentation and I think VTech could gain significant customer confidence by getting the details right here. This product works extremely well and the little bits of resume bloating detracted from what was great, experientially, for me. So let me start over again with my assessment of what's included in the box. This is a two-camera system (independently powered) that provide a live direct feed to an included monitor (independently powered with rechargeable batteries that VTech claims will last 12+ hours). The cameras do not have any form of battery backup. The cameras connect to the monitor easily. Actually, the entire initial local setup was incredibly intuitive. The monitor took me a minute to understand, but once I learned the navigational nuances, it was simple and speedy to navigate. For superficial monitoring purposes, the cameras and monitor are great. Two-way audio works great, color representation is excellent in daylight, B&W low-light representation is very good in reduced light scenarios. For situations where you just want to be noticing things that are out of the ordinary, you should be able to find yourself alerted with peripheral vision alone (this is typically, I assume, going to be a baby monitor and all the expected video and audio cues should get your attention immediately). But while I found the video and audio quality to be consistently very good, it is worth noting that the monitor's video feed shows a LOT of ghost-y video artifacts that are not great and the camera lenses are VERY bad with video flares from incoming bright light sources (like sunlight through a window which can almost obliterate everything else in the range of view). The cameras are designed to be monitors so just don't point them at the sunset - and the monitor is not designed to capture facial features during a bank robbery - but as a monitor of simple things (like sleepy baby activity) this system does a magnificent job. The individual camera systems also function as night lights with internal lights that can be adjusted for color and for brightness. The lights can be left on systematically and can be turned on-and-off by simply tapping the top of the camera ring enclosure. The last part of this system that I would like to address is the associated VTech app. I usually find apps to be the weakest link of a system (and they are frequently monetized). Also, the concept of this whole device system seems to resolve a strictly LOCAL monitoring system requirement. But the VTech Baby Plus app connects directly through WiFi to the cameras to provide the user with monitoring from a distance - literally nanny-camming this system. And the mobile app is fantastic. The pan/tilt/zoom features aren't as efficient as their localized counterparts, but they are reliable and the full 1080p video feed is stunning. The mobile app also allows you to receive notifications for motion and sound events and allows you to take snapshots and videos of live events that can be saved to your phone. Overall, this is a great live video monitoring system that would serve as a great baby monitor. I was a little upset by misleading statements on the box that I felt were not representative of the newly released components inside and I think that users should know about camera light blindness problems and about annoying monitor video artifacts. I can't imagine a system that is easier to use right out of the box. And I think that users who choose this as a baby monitor will find this to be simultaneously a source of peace-of-mind and the next social media craze. Highly recommended - but I pulled one star for misrepresentations and for minor faults with the cameras and video representations.

Good at disconnecting form WiFi
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First and foremost I will say the sole purpose for getting a baby monitor is to easily monitor your baby. It is a no brainer, but sometimes the technology promised gets in the way of the base product. Vtech is a well known brand and I recall Vtech being the first brand of cordless telephone in my parent’s house when I was a kid. It makes sense for Vtech to be in the baby monitor business, and they offer the following features on this dual camera system: • Wide-angle viewing up to 135 degrees • Local or remote two-way talk • Soothing sounds and lullabies • Temperature sensor • Automatic infrared night vision • Volume control • Free live remote monitoring • 360 pan and tilt cameras • Nightlight Now, this system works well to have multiple angles on one baby or to have one camera system for two different kids. The included 7 inch color monitor screen will flip between the two cameras so you can monitor both cameras. In theory, this product is a homerun but in reality there are serious connectivity issues. When trying to monitor the cameras using the vetch app I would frequently be unable to connect or receive severely delayed video feed. I could live with this but the fact that the included 7” monitor also experiences significant video feed delays and sometimes can' display much of anything is a deal breaker. Add the issues of the cameras intermittently disconnecting from my mesh WIFI network and you can call this monitor completely useless. I thought this system would be perfect for me since I was going to be able to live monitor my baby with the included monitor and remote monitor when I needed to while at work. The lack of a live monitor at home is what puts me off from other WIFI baby monitor systems because I do not want to have to use my phone at home to simply look to se if everything is ok with my baby. The connectivity issues are to great for this to be useful to anyone as a baby monitoring system, unless they do not have the same connectivity issues I experienced. I don't know if Vtech could have solved this by including included a localized radio solution in addition to WIFI for when WIFI is not working correctly.

Good picture and great camera movement
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I like the quality of the images from the camera and the many customizable options via the included tablet and the app. The included tablet is not touch screen so much harder to navigate. I later wished I used the app to do my setup. The included manual is really good but the lack of the included tablet not being touch screen means using the tablet for setup is more time consuming but once I hit the hang of the input controls on the tablet became faster and easier. Tablet battery life is pretty good and nice rear kickstand for placing by your nightstand for quick alerts and viewing. The connection so far is rock steady. My only complaint and it is really more me than the system itself due to my lack of patience…trying to pan using the controls there is a lag of the panning starting, a lag of about a second or two but once it starts, it is pretty smooth and steady image…not jerky. The image quality is great more than incredible. Sound pickup is even better and talking to my child is easy to hear. I love the price and the easy sturdy mounts.

Good with some flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Alright: this is on the surface a good product and gives you decent flexibility with the camera motion and the set-up is easy. It does not cover 360 and the best use is if it is mounted with a wider angle thus giving you a wider reach. But that is basic and should not be a deal breaker. Staying with the positive. the two way audio communication is good and the app allows you to keep an eye on the house and the baby when you are miles away. Staying with the app: that needs serious work. It is patchy and clunky and is just not that good. The lag is just awful. V-tech should have used USB-C as the connection and not another plug that needs to be carried around with you. But that should not be a deal-breaker if you are using the system within the house with no plans to take it in your vacation trips. My biggest complaint is the quality of the video feed. In normal light it is clear and alright. In low light it is just too grainy and I am not talking about a pitch dark room only but a room with the night light on. This is important as one might need the monitor's feed to be clearer at night as that is when the baby might be alone in their room with you in your own room. In bright light there is such severe ghosting that you might think there is a poltergeist in your room, which you can avoid if you position the camera away from direct sunlight. Recommended with some reservations.

This baby monitor is super cool!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The VTech 2-camera system has a huge monitor with a really nice quality display. You can easily toggle between the two cameras or you can do a split screen which would be great if you had multiple children or rooms to watch. The video and audio quality is also great. The system itself was incredibly easy to set up - took less than 10 minutes without reading the instructions (you should read the instructions). Super simple to plug in and start using. Mounting takes a few more minutes, but still not bad at all. I like that this model comes with the ability to be Wifi enabled, but doesn't HAVE to be connected to Wifi. This makes it very versatile to have others (like a sitter) use the display without their phone, but also gives us the ability to look at it when we're not home and want to check in. It was also super easy to sync up the cameras to the app. Figuring out the VOX setting wasn't quite as intuitive as others I've used before, but we ultimately figured it out. This also comes with the ability to talk to the baby through the camera. Probably not a setting we would use often, but neat to know it has it. It also has a nightlight and a lullaby feature - both things that we are already using through a sound machine, but could be great for someone without that. Range-wise it is also great! We can still view from the next-door neighbor's house, or our backyard firepit without issue. The video becomes a little bit choppy at these distances, but the audio is still clear.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Despite it being a decent price, great view, sound etc. the temperature gauge doesnt work says its 10-15 degrees colder or hotter depending the months. Broke after 8 months. Vtech RMA service is terribl
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Functioned for 8 months. It is basically a piece of medical equipment. I had to a replacement rather than wait weeks or months for an RMA from Vtech. So it will most likely stop working and then you have to deal with Vtech. Best Buy doesn't even offer extended service on these and that says something about the product reliability and quality

Wouldn’t recommend
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Frustrating baby monitor, loses connection pretty regularly requiring you to reset the viewer or cameras. The stand clip on the viewer broke within a couple months. You can’t expand beyond the two camera that come with the system. I do like the app, it works well and is more reliable than the viewer.
