The Pulsar Plus Level 2 Electric Vehicle charger is a 48A max (11.5kW) hardwired EV charger. It comes a a very sleek package and is app enabled which on first blush may not seem like that big a deal. But when you have EVs spanning a couple different companies and from different years, having a centralized place where you can control charging adds to the convenience. Being hardwired, not a version that plugs into an outlet, you may need professional installation. For me, having previously installed a 240V NEMA enclosed outlet that I used for EV charging, I was able to handle the installation myself. So one of the first thing I noticed is that the main housing, is not that much bigger than a waterproof 240V enclosure. What's nice is since the Pulsar Plus allows for rear installation, I can place it on the outside of my garage running the 240V wiring through the wall. Wiring is then straightforward to the screw terminals. Next, you'd set the max current for the Pulsar Plus (no more than 80% of your breaker rating) then reassemble the front. Note, you can further adjust charging current in the app, but you need to set the max on the device for electrical/fire safety reasons. The Pulsar Plus comes with a charge cable holster so you always have a convenient place to hang it. If you charge outside, skip the temptation to also hang a holster for your charging adapter - the Pulsar Plus won't walk away once installed but those adapters will! The app is very quick to setup and I've not yet experienced any connectivity issues to the Pulsar Plus. The Pulsar Plus actually has Bluetooth which makes for quick setup or connectivity if you don't have Wi-Fi access near the install site. And the charger works. There's not much to say here. You can charge both a Model 3 and i3 at 11.5kW (11kW is the max on the i3). While I could trickle charge the i3 while the Model 3 is plugged and be fine most days, being able to fully charge both vehicles overnight is awesome. And when I don't need the high rate, I can reduce my demand by lowering the charge rate. The only negative thing I've noticed, if I can even call it that, is the cable behavior in the cold. I'm used to this as it happens with the extension cord used previously to trickle charge or the Model 3's mobile charger - when it gets cold, a few degrees above freezing or below, the cable gets tough to move around. For an extension cord, this isn't as big a deal. But the thicker level 2 cables can be annoying if they're coiled and you need to extend/flex it a bit to make the connection at the car. But, I can't really call this a true negative as it's an issue I already deal with and I suspect most EVSEs will have the same issue. The app provides summary statistics that may not be of interest to many. But if you want to check how much time you've spent charging or total energy usage in the past month, the app will provide and summarize that. This is very nice if you use an EV for business and need to track energy usage to segregate it's charging costs from your home/personal electricity usage. Now, I can better track this across multiple different manufacturer vehicles in one place! You can even configure your cost per kWh which means you can get a cost summary directly versus having to do the extra step converting a kWh summary to $.

Wallbox Pulsar Plus 48 charger is one of the best chargers in the market. It comes with lots of positives than negatives that makes the Wallbox Pulsar Plus 48 charger one of the preferred chargers. Note - In order to take the advantage of the full 48 Amps, please remember that this unit needs to be hardwired for sure by a licensed/qualified electrician to a 60 Amp breaker or circuit (a charging circuit should only be used at 80% of its total capacity). Pros: 1. 48 Amps connected to a 60 Amp breaker - This provides a very fast charging of about 11.5 kW which adds around 35 to 45 miles. This is really great when we want to charge our car during off peak hours to get more out of the unit within less time. 2. Wifi and Bluetooth enabled Smart charger - Wallbox has made sure this charger is futuristic by providing both Wifi and Bluetooth options. Bluetooth/Wallbox app - With the Wallbox App installed, via bluetooth we will be able to control or use the charger. We can view the charging session, start and stop the charging session, view the past charging sessions under Statistics (including Time plugged in, kWs added, how long we charged and the cost (based on rate we entered during the intial setup), setup the schedule to start and stop the charging at a specific day or time to take advantage of off-peak rates. So far the app has been neat and clean and did not find any major issues with the connectivity or setup or usage. Wifi - With the Wifi, we can add the charger to the home wifi network for the connectivity on the go as well as to get the OTA updates which will help the unit get updates over the air to improve/add new features. 3. Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant compatible - It is possible to start or stop the charging or checking the amount of energy that was added to the car. 4. 25 feet cable - This is the maximum charging cable length that is supported. 25 feet cable is really long enough to charge the vehicle even when it is parked outside of the garage from inside. 5. Warranty - Wallbox Pulsar Plus 48 comes with a 3 year warranty which is not the best when compared to other chargers but it is still better than 2 years or less warranty provided other charging station companies. 6. Intelligent Powersharing - If one is planning to install multiple Wallbox chargers, Wallbox supports intelligent powersharing thereby balancing the power so that we don't overload the circuit when we have 2 Wallbox chargers on the same circuit by not overloading it. 7. OCPP compliant - Owners are less vulnerable to individual system suppliers – if a charging station manufacturer ceased to exist, the host could switch to another OCPP-based network. Giving charging station customers choice and flexibility to use any network on any charge station would, through market forces, encourage charging station manufacturers and network providers to compete on price, service, product features, and innovation – all of which encourages demand by charge station owners. The end result is a significant benefit to EV drivers as the charging station infrastructure expands. 8. NEMA 4 enclosure - It gives extra protection when mounted outdoors from Rain or Snow storms. Walbox has done a great job to make sure this charger is NEMA 4 and not NEMA 3 which gives great protection from harsh weather conditions. Cons: 1. Since the Charger has a thick cable, during Winter weather the cable will get really stiff and doesn't bend easily especially when the Charger is plugged outdoors with temperatures close to 0 degree F. If you have the charger plugged inside the garage this should not be a problem. So people who are living in the northern US states or Canada should really consider installing this charger inside the garage rather than outdoors. 2. Since the unit is hardwired, if there is any problem with the unit we will have to call the electrician even if we want disconnect the unit and send it for repair. So having said this, it will be better to go for the Pulsar Plus Level 2 40 Amp charger that can be plugged in to the NEMA plug which can be easily unplugged. We can save some money both during installation as well as to remove the unit for service if required.

The Wallbox Pulsar Plus Level 2 Electric Vehicle Smart Charger is just what I needed. I own a Tesla Model Y and was given a Tesla charger to use when I purchased my car. It worked fine, but it was using a plug that I had installed (which I paid for). This one needed to be hard wired, which was not too difficult. Once it installed, you download the app, and go from there. The Wallbox Pulsar Plus Level 2 Electric Vehicle Smart Charger is customizable while using the app. I haven't experienced any issues with the connectivity either. It Charges my my Model Y pretty quickly. The charging cable is a decent length too. While in the garage I do not have to worry moving my car around. I am glad that I gave the Wallbox Pulsar Plus Level 2 Electric Vehicle Smart Charger a chance. I will be taking it with me if I ever move to a new home. Getting into the EV scene was scary at first due to there not being too many chargers around. There are more out in the public now, and it's nice to have a reliable one at home now too.

I own a Nissan LEAF and had a “dumb” charger installed when I bought the car. Worked great, but sucks in the winter because I had to manually start and stop the charger to take advantage of off peak hours. With this, I can program it from the app, as well as monitor all the functions from my cellphone. The network capabilities are spotty at times, but still fairly reliable. Installation was quick. My electrician removed the old “dumb” charger and installed the new one in about an hour. No big issues there, and most of the install price will be tax credited to me, so it’s a no-brainer. Charges my leaf from 0% to full in about 6hrs. The charging cable is long enough to reach all points of my carport, so it’s no longer necessary to shuffle cars to charge. Hoses and construction seem durable. This is definitely a product I’ll take with me when I move in the future. I look forward to future app updates offering more benefits as electric cars become a larger part of the market. Really is a great product and a must for EV owners.
