    Compact - a few quirks

***TLDR:*** This is a compact smart charger with a long cable, suitable for moderate environments, with sometimes buggy wireless connectivity. ***STANDOUT FEATURES:*** 1.) Outdoor Rating 2.) Compact size 3.) Adjustable output 4.) Long Charge Cable 5.) Lockable ***QUALITY:*** With a NEMA Type 4 rated enclosure, the charging box is ready to be mounted outside in a rain storm. The rubberized grip is a delight to hold. The charge cable is about average quality, with a medium amount of flex to it. It isn't ideal for outdoor use in frozen climates, as it becames very stiff and crackles when cold. I'd say this is best with a temperate climate for outdoor parking - or use with a garage in higher latitudes. ***INSTALLATION:*** Installation is quick and easy, provided your 240V plug is oriented with ground pin closer to the floor. If not, you'll have to mount your Pulsar Plus _very_ close to the plug (with the cable bent in a short U), as the cable between the "wall box" and the plug is only about a foot long. It's actually ridiculous to have the longest charge cable in the industry but a stupidly short plug-in cable. That being said, the box's size and weight make mounting simple - it's attachment plate can be hung to a single stud with only 2 screws. The charge-connector has a separate holster (remote from the main unit), so you can mount it wherever you like also using 2 screws. -Pro Tip: put blue tape on the holster to cover the holes, poke them out with a marker, then place that tape on your mounting location. This will help with pre-drilling. ***SMART FEATURES:*** This thing has more smart capabilities than I will ever use. Things which help with variable rate power metering (for off-peak charging and connecting two wall boxes to a single breaker), adjustable current, scheduled charging, charge notifications, etc. These units can actually actually talk to each other - if two cars of equal draw are charging, both get 20A. If one draws 16, the other can take 24. If one is done, the other can take 40. No fuss, no muss. The Wallbox integrates with Google Home and Amazon Alexa as well, allowing you to quickly and easily check charge status or change settings - like starting charging early. For outside charging, you can even command the charger to lock (to keep others from stealing your electricity). Charger status can be quickly determined via an LED ring on the box itself. This can be switched off when using the latest app updates. ***APP:*** All smart settings are accessible through the "Wallbox" App, which for now is a craps shoot. Many people have reported connectivity issues using Google Play and the App Store. I personally didn't have issues connecting, but I followed another user's advice and set it to connect to my 2.4GHz Wifi band, with the box facing my router. I'm also on an expensive phone - the S21 Ultra. ***CHARGE PERFORMANCE:*** My ID.4 Charged up at about 33 miles per hour, which is good. Be sure to have the latest firmware installed to get the most accurate stats, as an older firmware has been reported to give inaccurate charge data. ***CONCLUSION:*** The compact size, long cord length, and simple installation make this appealing. The possibility to face connectivity issues is concerning, however. If you get it from Best Buy - especially with Total Tech - you won't have anything to worry about.

    Great EV charger for outdoors

The Wallbox electric vehicle charger was super easy to setup right out of the box. All I had to do was mount it to my wall near my 240v outlet and plug it in and it was good to go. I already had a 60amp breaker for this outlet so I didn't need to do anything, but you'll need at least a 50amp breaker for the charger to run on by itself. I love the 25 foot cable, it's super convenient to reach my wife's car no matter which side of the driveway she parks in. And the Wallbox charges so much faster than running a charge cable off a 120v outlet. Before we were limited to 5amps with the charging cable we had, and now we have the ability to use the full 40amps with this Wallbox charger. It's pretty rainy where I live and I don't have to worry about this charger getting wet, which is a great thing. You get access to a ton of features if you download the app and sync your device with your wifi, like realtime monitoring, scheduling your opportune charging times, and even changing what amperage you're charging at. Overall I'm super happy with the Wallbox's performance and would definitely recommend especially if you're mounting it outside.

I had been getting by with a super basic ev charger by a different brand that I received when I purchased my car but knew I wanted something with a little more features. Enter the Wallbox Pulsat Level 2 Electric Vehicle Smart Charger. Installation was super simple…pretty much a plug and play situation where all I had to do was remove my original charger and quickly install the mount for the Wallbox which again was quick and easy. After downloading the app and setting up my login I was able to setup the connection to my WiFi and complete the firmware update. Setting up my charging schedule was relatively simple which was a much needed respite to my experience with my old charger whose scheduling feature never properly worked nor could I get any help from their customer support. It offers other smart features that I don’t currently need and may never use but it’s nice to know the options are there. The actual charging is has been excellent for me, especially compared to the time it took with my old unit. Overall I am extremely happy with this charger and will definitely be adding a second one to the mix.

A great Level 2 J1772 charger for our PHEV Jeep

I was excited to finally see the WallBox Pulsar Plus available for purchase inside the US. We'd been following the L2 charger scene for the past year since acquiring our Jeep Wrangler 4xE last summer, looking for the right solution for converting from the included L1 slow charger to getting more than a daily battery's use through the use of an L2 charger. Our Jeep only charges at a maximum amperage of 30A so the Wallbox, offering up to a 40A charge was perfectly sized. We were also interested in the ability to de-rate to 30A to avoid any issues with overcharging or just wasting electricity due to conversion loss where the Jeep couldn't take advantage. The WallBox is just that - A box that mounts on the wall and plugs into a standard NEMA 14-50 220V outlet. We had an electrician install a standard 14-50 on its own breaker in the garage, and set off to install the WallBox ourselves - No problem - As easy as hanging any device on the wall with anchors or stud mounting and plugging in the included power cord - The other end of the device is the standard J1772 plug for the vehicle, which has an including "holster" that can also be wall mounted for organizational convenience and cable management. Once we were set up, the charger was pretty seamless to use. There is an app control, and it can be connected to Google Assistant (or Alexa if that's your platform) for status inquiry and charging starting/locking. This was a nice integration that we weren't expecting for our very Google-centric home. You can even get charging metrics such as electricity used and query Wallbox support using Google Assistant (or Alexa). Charging for us was simple - Plug and play - We did downrate the charger to the max amperage for the Jeep at 30A - Besides this we did very little setup. Plug and play. What more can you ask for? Now we can enjoy errand-level full charges every time we take off in the PHEV we own - This changes our electric usage footprint and can't wait to see the fuel savings and enjoy the all-electric experience more in our Jeep!

I like the convenience of being able to charge our new EV right at home in the garage. I had an electrician install a 240v outlet right in the garage so everything is professional and safe. I am getting used to the app for the Wallbox unit to set a schedule for recharging. Overall this is a very nice piece of equipment. I believe this unit had been used by someone as it had some dust on it right out of the plastic. My thought was confirmed because when I added the charger (by serial number) to the app, the charging history had two sessions listed back in October 2022.

EV Smart Charger w/ J1772 charge plug

Wallbox - Pulsar Plus Level 2 Electric Vehicle Smart Charger - 40 Amp NEMA - WiFi, Bluetooth, Alexa and Google Home - 25 Ft Cable Wallbox is a leader in EV charging, with advanced EV charging and energy management systems for homes and commercial spaces. This is a nice-looking compact designed unit for your home and is rated to withstand extreme weather conditions. It has Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities including the use of a 2.4GHz band. It can also make use of Allexa and Google Home. Professional installation is not needed if you have a dedicated standard NEMA 14-50 220V outlet where you are going to mount the unit. The charger is compatible with all EV models as long as they have the capability to charge with a J1772 charge plug. The Charge cable is a good 25ft in length and is rubberized and appears to be quite durable. The unit has adjustable power levels for 6A to 40A. It has the capability to connect with and share two Wallbox units on a single connection while balancing the load and has additional add-ons that can be purchased separately to deal with real-time power demand and energy management with solar solutions. The physical unit has minimal features with most of the control must happen through the App. You do have a led ring that gives information: Green means Ready. Light Blue means connected to EV ready for charge. Dark Blue Pulsing means charging. Yellow means locked. Red means unit is in Error. Firmware updates are available through the App only while connected with Bluetooth and most configuration requires a Bluetooth connection. You can Schedule your charging through the App but I use my EV as it is more sophisticated in its Scheduling solutions. The NEMA plug cable is only 12 inches long and is intended to plug into an outlet with the ground lug facing down. Resulting in the cable coming out the top of a protected box covering for the outlet. This is major stupid in my opinion. First the cable (and rightly so ) is heavy duty without a lot of flex also if you have an opening for the cable through the top of your outlet box and the unit is in a place that is exposed to the weather it has the potential for a leak. I swapped out the cable for a longer one of similar heft and could have the exit as intended out the bottom of the protective box. The connections in the Wallbox are a screw compression block and the external joint has a compression gasket that allowed for a quick change up and still maintain a waterproof connection. The App could use some improvement and added features to truly be Smart- but it doesn’t matter in my case since my EV has a superior Scheduling solution and electrical tracking. I do like that I can at a glance check my costs for the charging on the App and how long the sessions are. I also would like the App to have Geo-fencing to activate the LED panel or a motion sensor since I don’t need the lights on when the car is not there. The App has a setting to allow the unit to turn off the LED after a change in state after a slight delay. All in all, I was happy to upgrade my EV charger to a smart charger and can see that it may have additional features I could use in the future.

    EV Level 2 charger review

Super easy to install and use, very well-made, and pretty attractive. The separate holster is much more flexibly useful than one that's part of the charger itself. I went with plug-in because that in theory that offers some flexibility as well, but I'm extra glad I did because I can unplug it when not needed (I checked w/ the mfr. who says that's fine) -- the 4.5w LED light would add ~ 38kWh of electricity use per year ...

I bought this charger recently hoping it would be an easy install but it was far from that. The pictures and description say that it has a NEMA plug but mine did not. I called customer support and they agreed to ship me a NEMA cable but then they cancelled my order for the plug and said that it had to be hardwired. This is not what the pictures and description show. If you are hardwiring this is a great option but I wish that would have been stated upfront.

Costs a lot, but the real cost comes in to play when you have to pay an electrician for all of the additional materia and labor you're going to need. DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THIS YOURSELF. YOU CANT JUST PLUG IT IN
