After installing the solar panel and wiring it to the camera it did nothing!!! I had it in direct sunlight for 3 straight days and the battery percentage just kept dropping and never sparked 1% of charge to it at all!!!! So i returned it and just purchased the Nest Cam Weatherproof cable.

This solar panel drains the battery in 2 days and makes my nest camera to not respond. I switched to different camera and the same symptoms! This is inadmissible! And now I'm not able to return the product because I didn't open the box for 2 weeks because was holidays!

Would be great if the camera could alter settings.

This is primarily due to the camera sensing this as a power source and not being able to shut off from a constant on function.

When the Nest Cam is connected to the solar panel, do you see the "solar" and "infinity sign" on the App, or are you only seeing the battery level? Could you send us a screenshot of the App when the solar panel is connected?
If you are only seeing the battery level, please use a clean cloth to clean the connectors on both sides and try again.
Please also check if your setup is connected to any hub eg. Starling hub. This may turn on Homekit secure video and have a 24/7 record. This will, in turn, drain the battery.

Works, but flawed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Received my solar panel, installation very easy, straight forward. However this is not a good replacement to hard wired into an outlet. I have noticed this device can marginally charge the device, it will not allow constant recording or streaming due to power limitations. I have seen the camera display its battery no where near 100% charged, rather in the 70s and dropping, so this cannot do true justice as an alternate power source. The rated 2.5W is not enough, your camera will eventually fall below 20% and require you to remove and plug in manually. If anything this will double if not triple the time between charging the camera, or simply find a way to hard wire it into a near by outlet. The additional premium solar panel accessory now makes much more sense, I think Google knows, this isn't a real replacement, so there is another higher wattage solar panel to come, hopefully that one will actually keep the device 100% on solar, but at the this rate, the regular panel is took forever to release, don't expect the premium panel to come out in 2022.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the product. While using the solar panel, the camera can only charge up to 70% and then stop. This is Google's camera design. The purpose of this is to protect and extend the battery life of the camera. When the battery percentage falls below 70%, it will charge up to 70% again. Moreover, continuous recording/streaming has large current consumption and Google's camera does not support this feature while it's connected to the solar panel.
