I picked this up on sale for $9.99 and I cannot complain. Fantastic piece of nostalgia transfered to 4k goodness with DTS X and HDR10. Definitely the best I've ever seen this movie look and sound. Yes the Arrow transfer has Dolby ATMOS and Vision, but it also retails for $60. Absolute no brainer pick up for my collection at $9.99!

Impressive 4K image and you get the extended cut in 1080p. No impressive bonus content like the Arrow Video release, and certainly no version of the Ulysses cut.

I always have enjoyed this movie, and now it’s great to have it in 4K! The SteelBook looks really nice and the picture quality is fantastic compared to the Blu-ray. Definitely worth picking up.

Waterworld done masterfully in 4k . Big fan of Kevin Costner this one of his movies , cinematics action stunts are truly amazing as this movie puts the effects of global warming into perspective . Picture quality is phenomenal as you won’t see any grainy scene as some poorly remastered movies . 5 stars for this one as I enjoyed it watching in on my home theater , very vivid movie.

This is the essential version of the film! If one enjoyed the original or if one wants to give it second chance, this is the version of the film needed.

Ok, Waterworld is known as a flop! However, the movie was killed before it was even released because of bad press! The movie to this day has turned a profit of at least 10 million! Not bad for a flop? I won’t argue this is a great movie, but far from a flop and not just cause of money. Some of the shots in this film are Epic. Watching Costner whizzing across the water in a very cool looking ship is just one. Some of the shadow shots with the beautiful Hawaiian sunset as a backdrop make for some great shots. The Atoll where much of the Waterworld community lived was a gigantic set built using basically every piece of iron in Hawaii! There’s some great stuff here! You have 2 new choices this 4K version or a 3 disc set from Arrow that includes the infamous Ulysses cut (basically a fan created cut of the film) SPOILER: Its called the Ulysses cut because of the name given to Costner’s character at the end of the movie. The arrow blu Ray has great extras and we here from the people who made the film minus Costner (a big missing piece), but 3 cuts of the film and extras is a nice package and if you’re a completist this would be for you. But a cheaper way to go to see the best visual version of the film is this 4K disc! It also comes with a second longer cut of the film on blu Ray. No other extras. I actually am enough of a fan (not in my top 100) and Also a completist so I bought both. I would recommend the 4K for someone not interested in extras because it’s a film where you definitely can see the difference in quality from blu Ray to 4K. Plus you can watch the extended version that does give you more info about the characters and a special surprise Planet of the Apes ending. For under 20 bucks it’s definitely worth the buy. 4 stars is high given some flat acting, but the visuals and sound track on 4K makes it 4 stars!

    Nostalgia Upgraded to UHD

I was among the apparent few who enjoyed this film when it released, and after having suffered through an old LaserDisc copy that I never replaced, this UHD release provides a fresh and welcomed presentation. The colors are not overly done, yet they are still warm and at times drab enough as to accent the mood of a post-apocalyptic world rife with scavengers and ravagers. The oceanic scenes - which I admit is the biggest draw for me with this title - are the one drawback, as some shots within the same scene seem to be darker and a different shade. This might perhaps be due to different clips shot at different times being strung together, or even multiple camera sources filming the same scene, I wouldn't know. While this is also present in my previously owned format, in UHD this only becomes more noticeable, which is a credit to the format but an unfortunate circumstance for this title. Detail is what I would expect from a 25 year-old title, and while obviously not on par with newer films, there are times - particularly with the quieter oceanic scenes - there is a matte-type quality to the picture, which also nicely accents the mood of the film, with just enough grain to imply a classic cinematic feel. The DTS:X MA track packs a good and unexpected wallop for an older title. The audio is a bit heavy on the lower end, enough so that I had to adjust subwoofer level trim down a few ticks, but otherwise is a very robust audio presentation with a lot of depth. Music, effects, and vocals are layered with enough precision to provide an immersive but uncluttered sound field. The audio measures equally well to a very solid UHD video presentation. This UHD release is definitely one I'd recommend for fans, and even anyone who is curious enough but has not seen the film.

Okay, you either like Waterworld or you don't (me, it's a guilty pleasure), but one can't deny this package is terrific. It gives all 3 versions of the film in HD and it has lots of extras to boot. Nothing is left off from previous editions (I don't think), and having an uncensored version of the long TV version is a great addition. The previous DVD special edition did not have that. Waterworld is not Shakespeare, and it's definitely not a a great film, but it delivers the action and some spectacular set pieces to go with the exciting action. It's long at times, but the premise is interesting and putting together the back story of what happened to the world is nice-makes you fill in the blanks too with speculation. The added pieces to in the long version build story, character and some are just plain fun (Mount Everest). You sure get your money's worth with 3 movies if nothing else.

    BluRay 4K HDR Disks

Thia was 1 of 3 Disks I purchased on this date, as I continue to upgrade existing blu-rays disks to the best possible format. I may be in the minority here in the age of streaming (which I do as well), but there are those of us with high-end A/V systems who want the best resolution & color and (preferably) ATMOS sound from our movies, and will continue to spend money to upgrade our disks. Best Buy should keep these high spend customers in mind and give more attention to their inventory of these disks as they are made available. Emeryville store is lacking in this regard; in fact, not as varied and plentiful selection as the Target across the street.

Great 4K transfer, but Ulysses Cut is NOT included

If you're a fan of the original theatrical cut and own a 4K TV w/HDR and a sound bar capable of encoding DTS-X, then for the price, I can't recommend this UHD Blu-ray enough, the movie was mostly shot using practical effects and it's due to this that the 4K transfer still holds up, the sound is fantastic and full.. My only grip is the "Extended edition" is the TV Cut NOT the famous Ulysses Cut that is available from Arrow... ( This is proven by the lack of adult content cut from the extended edition) such as the opening scene of the Mariner peeing ( you don't see the stream) and the nudity is completely cut in addition to swearing) .. That being said,if you enjoyed the film as it originally released then you should have a blast revisiting Waterworld.

Significant video/audio improvement in 4k version

Improved audio and video in the 4k 'Theatrical Cut' over previously released blu-ray releases of that version. It is too bad Universal did not choose to do the 'Extended Cut' version in 4K, (included in this package only as 1080p Blu-Ray), with its 40 some minutes of additional footage. I suspect had they done so it would have been a better marketing decision on their part, (especially as Arrow Video had just released an excellent Blu-Ray package which featured the 'Extended Cut' I think a bit less than a year before this one from Universal), and likely would have resulted in more sales overall. Still and all, this one is worth it at the relatively low price if one has not seen this film too many times already.

Waterworld 4K was mastered from the camera negatives and presents a very filmic look without any undue grainyness. Won't bother discussing the virtues of the story for a film most should be familiar with, Rousing fight scenes and sea-level change are some of the themes here. I suspect this movie looks better here than it did in most cinemas after the film prints got some use/age with dirt or spots, or reel changes. The high dynamic range image is a great improvement over the HD. The steelbook has two iconic images from the movie on the front and rear. The deep blues are reminiscent of the ocean water and perils of the sea. There is a second longer cut of the movie on the 4K disc, but it's only presented in HD, not 4K HDR.

Look, I'm not reviewing content here. You either love Waterworld or you don't. It's not my fault if you're wrong. But who in their right mind would have ever believed that in the span of a year we got a boutique (Arrow) SE of this movie let alone a 4k transfer with a flippin' STEELBOOK! But apparently Saint Joe smiles down upon us with this beautiful package featuring Enola's tattoo on the cover and a can of Smeat on the reverse. Fantastic.

Wow is all I have to say. This film is super underrated. There is a reason it still has an active show at every Universal Studios park. While the story has some holes, it certainly takes you for a ride in the future. The best easter egg would be the Exxon - Valdez Captain.

I loved this movie when it came out. It was the most expensive movie in history at the time, $235 million in 1995. This collector's edition blu ray comes with three cuts of the film including the European cut which is over 43 minutes longer than the theatrical cut, and the television cut which was over 41 minutes longer than the theatrical cut. I love all the extra footage that gives you a deeper connection with the film. If you want to have an action packed extravaganza and lots of fun, check this movie out and enjoy all the cuts.

Believe it or not, I had never seen this.movie until now, mostly because I heard it was bad. But it really isn't. Maybe it's not the best movie ever made, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. No idea where all the hate came from. It's basically Mad Max on water. Good times!

Some people hate this movie, others love it. I fall in line with the latter. And this steelbook is beautiful. However, the arrow video release of Waterworld puts this edition to shame even despite the 4k transfer. However this edition is less expensive and a pretty amazing steelbook. If ya don't have access to the arrow video box set edition of this, def grab this steelbook.

Waterworld is mostly remembered for being a trouble big budget production (which it was) and for being a box office bomb (which it actually wasn't) but it's actually a fun post apocalyptic action flick with some practical stuns that are absolutely insane and would be all CGI today. The new 4K transfer looks good and the new DTS X audio track COOKS.

Decent 4K Transfer by Universal. It's a shame that the extended cut of the film is on the 4K disc though and not on the blu-ray disc. Especially considering that the extended cut is NOT in 4K.

This set has all 3 cuts of the film 2 are just about 3 hours each. It is region free even though Arrow restored this film. Arrow lately has been on a roll with quality scans This is a 4k scan presented in 2k. I know sounds dumb but I feel older films look better this way. It allows great detail and still has the natural grain without it being noisy
