I must say, it worked like a charm. However, there is a downside to it. This external drive can only be used for storage purposes. Once the games are installed or transferred onto the drive, Xbox cannot read them unless you transfer them back onto the Xbox's hard drive. It would have been amazing if the content could be stored and played directly from this drive.

As external HDD go speed, capacity and quality are features required on this type of device. I'm happy to say this unit has them not to mention a good price.

Better alternative to the pricey SSD 1TB Card

I first bought the insanely expensive 1TB SSD External Storage Card specifically designed for the new Xbox Series S/X. My 512 GB (less than that actually usable) Series S needed more space after just a few Optimized games were installed...and I still had my whole Xbox One library of games I wanted to add. The 1TB expansion card immediately filled up and I still needed space. I returned the card and bought this 5TB monster. Yes, it's only able to play One X games when used with the new console. No, I don't care. Most games are One games anyway. Hopefully by the time there are many Series X/S games out, Seagate will have made a 3 or 5TB SSD card that isn't outrageously expensive.

Very fast and tons of space. Great quality casing. Easy connection and setup. No real time to get this hooked up to an Xbox and start copying files. About 14 minutes for 90 Gb games.

I had a wd mybook 4 tb and it's still working perfectly but i wanted to physically down size and get something that would be powered through a usb port in my xbox1x instead of being plugged into the wall and using extra electricity. After a lot of searching, research and reviews i decided to try the wd black 5 tb,when I opened it i couldn't believe how compact it was but i plugged it into my xbox1x and it was very easy to format and to transfer the games from my mybook to the wd black p10 and everything works fine, it did get a little warm while transferring but nothing to worry about at all, i hope it lasts at least as long as my previous wd (15 years and counting) I would definitely recommend this to anyone who would like alot storage in a compact size and not have to plug it in the wall .

Great Hard Drive for Xbox One X

Got this with a Birthday 10% off coupon and can't complain with the price! I had an older WD External 2 TB Hard Drive that could write at 104/mbs and with this drive saw new write speeds of ~130/mbs. I had my Internal 1 TB hard drive on Xbox One X full along with the 2 TB external drive, and with this, it's going to take a looong time to fill up. On a side note, the Game Pass Ultimate codes actually score you 4 months, not 2. Microsoft has a deal going on where if you turn on autopay you'll get an extra month free. With this drive you receive two one month codes and each code is eligible for autopay = 1 extra month.

This WD black edition can deliver up to 120mbites per sec! If you want to watch 4k content, this is one of very few hdd that can go that fast, It's also makes some noise due to high spinning disk. Most portable slim hdd only do like 15-25mbps, so when you transfer big files it may take days while this hdd takes only hours. Plus when it goes on sale like $100 is not a brainer. Wish it was usb C, So, it could go like 200+mbps.

5 stars, excellent product, well worth the cost. Very pleased with this purchase. Definitely recommend this to anyone in the market. Great alternative for storage options. We used this product for games and movies, ample storage provided for all of our needs and all of our wants. Again I highly recommend this product for any one looking for just that right amount of storage no matter what your storage needs might be and the value unbeatable.

This car drive completed my 15 TB Xbox series X set up. I hate waiting to download or transfer video games when I have time to play because when I have time to play that is it I do not want to deal with downloads transfers driver updates updates to the game etc. when I want to play I’m ready to play. And this 5 TB hard drive is so boring yet really cool looking that I can highly recommend you getting it specially since the brand is known to be reliable and it comes with at least one year warranty. Remember you will not be able to play Xbox series X or Xbox series S optimized games that you can store them inside is hard drive. For every other game this will work perfectly. It it is not as fast as an SSD remember that, but for the price and size you are getting almost 3 times what it would cost to own an SSD that is worth a darn.

I needed an external drive for my PS4. Several web sites suggested the WD black. I liked it becasue unlike some other external drives, the WD black does not require a separate power supply/cable. The Xbox logo’ed drive works great, even if attached to a PS4 :) ) Downside is you are not supposed t connect through a hub, so it takes 1 of my 2 USB ports…not an issue unless you run your controller wired on long play sessions and are using a USB headset… Anyway, the drive is fine. Quiet and fast. Finding the drive in the store, however, is another story. The plain, un logo’ed WD drive (multiple capacities) is in the laptop/computer section of the store, which is where I started. Shelf spot was there, but empty; sold out. (At this point, I had no idea these were also promo logo’ed for specific game systems) Thought I was out of luck, but I decided to meander through the game section (opposite side of the store). In the PS4 area, more external drives. found a shelf slot for the 5TB WD black. Sold out. Checked the xbox area, found this drive. Its just odd that the same product is in 3 separate locations in the store, with nothing indicating hey, there might be more of these over in xxx area.

I purchased two of these. One for our Series S and one for our Series X. They are a great alternative to the SSD Expansion Cards for the Series consoles if yo do not want to spend the coin at the time. But there is one big difference that you MUST take note of. *This external will let you install and play Xbox One, 360 and Gen 1 Xbox games . You can ONLY STORE Series S|X Games on it though. Say you need more space on your internal storage for S|X Optimized Games but do not want to delete a game to make room. You can MOVE that game to this external drive as a storage but it will not play the game since it needs to be on the internal drive or expansion slot SSD. Aside from that you can put so many games on this! It is quicker to move a S|X game than to delete and reinstall. Especially if you have a bandwidth cap with your ISP! Plus there are plenty Games of the Month and Game Pass games that aren't S|X you can install and play from. *Can Install and Play XONE, X360, OG XB Games.. Can ONLY STORE S|X Games..*

Got sick of having to delete and reinstall Xbox games to stay under 1gb. I don’t anticipate needing to do that again for a long time. Was completely plug and play. It would be really cool if you could partition it hold media as well as games, but to my knowledge you must choose games/apps or media. Its also apparently the same as a regular WD xternal, so I would compare the price on both. This one definitely looks cooler and I got it on sale.

Works as advertised. Adds nice storage to the Xbox Series X. Games today use up lots of storage space and the 1 TB in the console get used up quickly. This helps to keep from having to delete and reinstall games when storage space is needed. Would recommend. Got it on sale for a good price.

Plug and play at least for my Xbox x series. I was going to go to and with the Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X for 219$ not including tax for 1 TB or 5 TB for a 100$ you decide. Peace and happy new year’s and happy gaming.

Got this after my prior 4TB external HDD I was using for my XB1/XSX stopped working. Was surprised to see that I could get this for the price that I did. As expected, it was plug and play. Works perfectly. Got a bunch of my games installed on it and have 0 issues with it. Couldn't be happier.
