Customers are saying

Customers praise the BLACK SN750 500GB Internal Gaming SSD PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVMe for its performance, affordability, and ease of installation. Many reviewers highlight the fast boot times and ample storage capacity for the price. While some users noted that the drive can get warm under heavy use and may have compatibility issues with older systems, the positive feedback on speed and value outweighs these concerns. The overall experience is largely positive, making it a popular choice for gamers and other users.

Several days after I had purchased this recommended hard drive for my Lenovo Laptop PC, a Geek Squad member informed me that he could not install this hard drive because it was not compatible with my PC! Fortunately, the Geek Squad member immediately informed me which hard drive would be compatible, so, I purchased the correct hard drive, had it installed by the Geek Squad, and now all is well!

Bought two to run in RAID 1 for boot. It's a good thing that I did run a mirror as one drive completely failed. Did a complete power down, removed unnecessary components, performed a drive test and it was fully locked up with no communication to the controller. Fortunately it was within the return period so I was able to return it. Get the replacement plan!

I recently reviewed an internal SATA SSD drive and I’m going to take the same approach with the WD Black SN750. Hard drives are, like many PC components, difficult to review in context of not being overly technical but captures the key points. There are plenty of reviews on other sites that go into the nitty, gritty technical details. I’m not going to do that. The truth is most readers do not care, what they care about it is does it work and does it do what it says it does. You are going to see a lot of terms in reviews and hard drive info - M.2, SATA, NVMe, . PCIe, don't get too hung up them but don’t gloss over them either. What you need to know is that solid state drives ( SSD) primarily come in two interfaces – SATA and PCI express. SATA is an older interface and the PCI express is faster and more current interface ( 4 to 6 times faster.) The WD - Black SN750 is a PCI Express type ( actually PCI Express 3.0 x4 NVMe ) and is the faster of the interfaces. There are two versions of this drive - one with a robust heat sink designed for desktops and one without a heat sink for laptops. There is a slight discrepancy on the Bestbuy site on this drive’s heat sink. It states the laptop edition has a heat sink. If you go to the WD website and look, there is obvious physical differences between the one with the heat sink and the one without. The version I received did not appear to have a heat sink. The thermal properties of desktops are different and a heat sink will make the drive liberate heat more freely. I chose to install the drive in a HP All in One and used the WD - Black SN750 for laptops. Installation is fairly simple, plug it in to open PCI express slot and configure it. Western Digital does appear fall short here a bit, there is no great direction included to clone an existing drive. However, For myself , I was using it as a secondary drive and it did not disappoint. In fact it was faster than the 128gb SSD that was in the system. I found it easy to install, fast as claimed and came with a good warranty (5 years.) So what are the draw backs? There are barely a few. As indicated , the drive does not come with great direction to clone a drive. There are a lot of options ( WD appears to offer free software called Acronis but I have not looked into it) and most are free . However, if you are using this on a laptop and there is only one M.2 slot open for the boot drive, definitely do you research before buying this or any other drive. This is not a drawback for the WD Black SN750, it is true of all drives. Do not gloss over this, it does take above average skillset. The only other thing that barely qualifies as a drawback, if you can even call it that, is the price. Even though you may not have many choices with the limiting factors being the interface and form factor, PCIe NVME drives are about twice the cost of a SATA drive and SATA are about the twice the cost of a traditional platter HD. Even so, $150 or less for a top of the line 500GB SSD drive is not out of line at all. In conclusion, the WD SN750 NVMe SSD is a speedy drive at an affordable price. Western Digital has always been a reliable, well established company that offers great products. If you are shopping for a drive to archive lots of data, this is no the drive for you. If you are looking for one of speediest drives available and looking to make it your primary or secondary drive, look no further.

So it's just past 6 months and I believe it failed.... having said that, I'm blaming Microsoft Windows 10 because this drive was fine until they forced major update...I had no issues. FORTUNATELY I bought geek squad replacement plan for 1 year so I'm going to replace with 1terrabyte side. I HATE MICROSOFT!!!

Installed this on my late 2013 MBP 15 retina with Mojave works fine only problem is boot time 45 sec over the original 256gb Samsung at 12 sec! even though the Samsung has slower read/write speed and still works at its best I'm keeping it i really don't need a lot of space though. so maybe it will work better on 2015 MBP??

I originally built my PC with a 250Gb 960 EVO and it has worked great but left very little room for games or other apps. I received this Western Digital Black SN750 500Gb SSD and thought it would be very quick and easy to install like my first m.2 drive was. Boy was I wrong. Now make no mistake, none of this was the fault of the drive but rather the fault of a series of unfortunate events driven by bad luck, stupid decisions and just plain strange occurences. This is my tale: To install the drive I first turned off my PC, disconnected the power cable and grounded myself with a wrist strap. I did not turn my case onto its side so that I was looking straight down into my PC. This would prove later to be a massive mistake. Most motherboards are going to have a riser and a screw that fits into it to mount the m.2 drive. My motherboard is a MSI Krait Z270. It has two m.2 slots and both slots had a riser and a screw on the motherboard. The first drive I removed the screw, repositioned the riser, mounted the m.2 drive, then placed the screw into the riser to hold down the m.2 drive in place. I assumed the second drive would be the same. However, due to my bad memory I did not remember that the riser and screw would be on the motherboard and spent roughly 30 minutes looking through my motherboard box for the screws. Finally I realized where the riser and screw were located and went to take them off. A small slip of the screwdriver and riser/screw both disappeared into my case. Well if you know much about computers you know you should never start one if you have a screw or any metal pieces in it as it can short them out. So I spent about an hour looking for the riser/screw. No luck. I then took the computer cables off the machine, all 33,000 of them and sit the PC on its back to look more. Spent another hour or so looking to no avail. Take off the back side cover and look there as well but no luck. At this point decided to pick up the entire thing and move it around and try to shake the screw loose. Nothing. Spent another hour doing this. I also spend a good 10 to 15 minutes looking for this tiny riser/screw all over my computer desk, beside it, behind it, all around the area to no avail. I then remove the power supply thinking it may be behind there: no luck. At this point I am four hours in, give or take, and decide I've had enough. Not only am I in trouble because the riser/screw is somewhere in the case, er I think, I also now have no riser/screw to mount the m.2 drive with. I figure it's time to visit the local computer shop. A few days later I head to the local computer store and have them look at it. After about 30 minutes the tech says he does not believe it is in the case but cannot be sure. He said to turn it on at my own risk. At this point I'm ready to try as I agree with him that it's likely not in the case. So I ask him for m.2 mounting screws. He has some, but no riser. So I have to purchase a $10 kit made for MSI motherboards. They do not fit. None of them fit. This is becoming something I never expected it to: mission impossible. Finally we decide to get a PCI card and mount the m.2 drive to it and do it that way. He refunds the $10 for the risers/screws and I pay him $15 for the PCI card. Believe it or not the screws included with the kit don't quite fit the actual card and sometimes the drive pops up. This happens after I mount the card. Very, very exasperated at this point. After much more fiddling around we finally get it to stay and mount it and it's ready to go. After 3 hours at the PC store I get back into my car with my PC and head home. I'm now about 7 hours into this "simple install". Get home and it's the moment of truth, to turn on the PC and hope nothing gets fried. I decide to spend a bit more time looking for the riser/screw in the carpet. Spend another 20 minutes on my hands and knees and find nothing. I stand up go to move the case back to reconnect all the 33,000 cables to it and.... there it is....the riser/screw. PLAIN AS DAY ON MY DESK. How this happened I do not know. I wonder if the universe is messing with me. I call my wife and ask her if this was one big, practical joke. She knows not what I speak of. I'm ecstatic to see the riser/screw. I decide to just roll with the PCI card and turn on the machine, go into Windows 10 and hit up disk management and about 2 minutes later the drive is up and running. Yes the drive is amazing and super fast, no I didn't do benchmarks because I'm already about 8 hours into this whole thing and I'm DONE. Later, I go to look at the riser/screw and the screw is a bit stripped and wedged into the riser. So I decide to call MSI. They answer relatively quick and the person speaks good English. That's the good news. The bads news is a replacement is $14, which is $4 for the part and $10 for shipping. They can tell me they "think" it's a 3mm screw but when I ask if that is 3mm for the screw, 3mm for the riser or 3mm for both they do not seem to know. So what's the moral of this story? First of all sit your PC on its back so if you lose a screw it doesn't have gravity come into play. Secondly, realize that m.2 drives do NOT COME WITH THE SCREW. Or the riser. So it's on you before buying to know where those are and have them in your possession. If you don't then buy a PCI card to mount or buy an external case before you get your m.2 drive. Now, as for the drive itself, I have to HIGHLY RECOMMEND for my time with it in games. It's very fast, I've had no issues with it and I'd recommend it for anyone who is looking for a fast SSD. Just be aware of the installation and issues around it! HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I have a Dell Inspiron 5675 that shipped with a 1 TB 7200 rpm spinning drive that was working fine albeit seemingly slow in executing simple tasks like boot up and initiating program startups. While this NVME drive indicates it works for laptops, it is also useful in desktops (which is the test subject). This drive is remarkably compact - about the size of two sticks of gum placed side by side on a flat surface. I tested this NVME drive by cloning the basic drive partitions that are applicable for windows bootup and all dell recovery partitions as well as the "C" drive and then opened the Inspiron and inserted this new cloned drive into the system. I did not change any settings because I wanted to preserve the default system as it was (it worked fine); I boot to the NVME drive through F12 and selecting the NVME drive manually. I know that it is possible to set this system up to do this automatically, but I am not worried about an extra boot step. IMPRESSIONS BEFORE AND AFTER CLONE AND INSTALL Employing CrystalDiskMark 6.0.2, I was able to note the following: BEFORE UPGRADE "Read" 170.634 mb/s "Write" 166.086 mb/s AFTER UPGRADE "Read" 1828.1 mb/s "Write" 1312.0 mb/s It should be noted that the NVME connection on this computer was a x4 version, not a x8 one. This unit could not reach the maximum speed of the drive for read or right which is double what this unit achieved in this test; this was not due to the drive limitations; it was due to the computer's limiitations. Boot time with Windows 10 in the original unit was 25 seconds from dell startup window and spinning circle to lock screen BEFORE the upgrade; AFTER UPGRADE the time it took from F12 drive selector screen to lock screen was near instantaneous - less than 3 seconds. The first boot on the new drive was not as fast, but subsequent boots have been blazing fast as indicated above. Application launches - before upgrade (Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 was glacial - at least 30 seconds; after upgrade less than 10 seconds on initial boot; afterwards it is 5-7 seconds. I chose this program as a test because it was always the slowest opening program on the old drive and frustratingly so. After the upgrade there is precious little lag in application load. Other programs also load much quicker and noticeably so. I would not hesitate to recommend this drive and was so impressed that I have evaluated other computers that I use to upgrade in the future.

Ever since I installed it in my computer, my computer crashes at least once or twice a day and it just corrupted my game files for Rocket League. This is by far the worst SSD I have ever had. Do not buy it!!! My computer blue screens twice a day most days and it makes my PC tough to use. Before you think that it has something to do with the way it was installed, I have installed multiple SSDs into multiple different PCs for other people and never had an issue.

WD BLACK 750 500GB clone of 1 year old HP 1TB HD will not boot. I used the automatic option Acronis Clone software included and the clone finished BUT it will not boot. When I compare the drives on the new ssd with the old drive done with Acronis the folder sizes are not the same. I have installed and cloned 4 drives to Samsung EVO SSD and their migration software works EVERY TIME. I will NOT waste any more hours on this WD drive. It will take time to pull it form my HP desktop BUT I will only have to do it once.
