This WD Black PCIe storage is a fast and easy way to upgrade your storage, it's appreciated that Sony went with a no proprietary form factor for expanding storage. There are a ton of options out there, one thing that Sony suggests is a specific minimum read/write speed. The great thing with the Sony Licensed sticks is that they will meet the requirements without you needing to do any research. Heatsink is another factor that is recommended, which helps to avoid overheating or damaging anything. The slot for the memory is hidden under the side panel, on my disc version PS5, you will need to remove that panel. There is a single screw that you remove to uncover the slot, there is also a screw with a standoff that you will need to move to secure the SSD (They both are phillips). Once you place the drive in and secure it, be sure to place the cover back over the slot to ensure proper air flow. Once you plug your console back in you will be prompted to format the drive, this will set up your drive to be used for game storage and test the speed of the drive. Once set up, you can select the drive as your default storage location or select it if your internal storage is full. With these drives in spec for optimal use with the Playstation 5, I didn't notice anything in terms of longer load times or issues with simply reading, it's a separate storage slot, but to your game library it is treated all the same. I like to keep the games I am playing constantly on the internal drive, and place everything else on this internal PCIe drive, in terms of PS5 games. I have an external WD drive that I use for my PS4 games. It's great how PS5 handles the games. I am able to choose my prefered storage location for PS5 games, but also set my PS4 games to install to a different drive. Installation is simple enough, I don't take the panels off very often, so I had to look up which corner to pull up and slide the cover off. It's very easy to find, I think a small photo on the included documentation in terms of installation would be nice. But this is simple enough that most anyone should be able to install, and a installation video would show how easy of a process this is to anyone! More storage is always welcome, this officially licensed product with WD just lets you know you got a manufacturer suggested drive, and takes the question out of buying.

The WD 1TB SSD for PS5 is the perfect SSD for anyone needing a little extra storage for their PS5. This SSD is available in 1TB and 2TB sizes and is rated at 7300MBps read and 5300MBps write speeds. It also includes a heatsink. Inside the package, there isn't much to talk about. You get the drive in a plastic shell, and a folded up paper which just has warranty info in about 100 languages, but no instructions or anything. Which isn't a huge loss, because you can easily look up a 1 minute video which shows you how to install the drive. Still, I would've appreciated an official video from WD on how to install the drive. They do feature a QR code on the box which takes you to a product support page, but bafflingly, it doesn't feature an installation video. But as I said before, it's easy enough to figure out yourself or find another video. You just pop off the PS5's outer shell, unscrew two small screws, move the little spacer thing to correspond with the physical size of the new SSD, and then screw the screws back in and put the faceplate back on. Next time you turn on the PS5, it will automatically detect the new drive and ask you to format it. In all, the whole process from start to finish took maybe 10 minutes, and that's including finding and watching a video. The actual performance of the drive has been nice. I can't tell a difference between it and the internal drive. I have installed a few different games that I used to have installed on the internal, and performance has been just as good as when I had them on the internal drive. Overall I am very happy with this drive.

The performance is top notch for this class of drive (Gen 4x4). For a PlayStation or PC, you can’t go wrong with this drive. The already built in(on?) Heatsink, make installation a snap. My previous drive took some experimenting to get the aftermarket heatsink to fit properly. Whereas the SN850P was good to go out of the box. I ran benchmarks using my PC first, as I don’t know how to run similar benchmarks on the PS5. Using CystalDiskMark the drive tested at 6960 MB/s read and 6367 MB/s write. This is a little less than advertised in the specs for the drive, but still very good overall. SUMMARY This is an easy to recommend drive for maximum performance and compatibility with your PS5. It is not the best value overall when looking at price per GB, but it is probably the easiest to install and get up and running. If you just want to get something that you know will work out of the box, then I can recommend the SN850P for your PS5.

If you own a PS5, short and sweet, BUY THIS NOW! It's just that simple. This is the perfect candidate to add storage or upgrade your system. It is blazing fast! I could register a speed of 6138/MBs after initial installation! Since Western Digital partnered with Sony on an officially licensed M.2, this is one is my favorite. The heatsink looks cool, but it is hidden, so there's no natural way to appreciate the engineering after it fits perfectly into the PS5 bay. Now let's get to work! We need to install this, so you will need a Phillips #1 screwdriver and your brain! That is easy, right? Anyone can do this upgrade so don't be afraid. You have the tools and ability so just slide off the white plate of the disc side on the PS5 to find where the M.2 bay resides. I recommend watching a tutorial on YouTube if you are unsure of this SUPER SIMPLE upgrade. After you get access to the rectangular bay, remove a single screw and aluminum door, plug in the SN850 drive, refasten the screw you removed to include the spacer, and you're done. Power on, let it format, and DONE. It's that easy! The drive looks like official gear with a PS logo and WD Black branding printed on the black heatsink for maximum contrast. The SN850 fits perfectly into the bay, stay cool, and it performs! This drive makes the PS5 more powerful and expands your library storage WHILE boosting performance because of faster read and write speeds. This is a fun time to be testing and you should too.

In fact, the SN850P works perfectly fine in a regular PC. There is no indication of any change from its siblings the SN850 or SN850X, but the specs are listed the same. Most importantly, this edition is certified for use in the PS5 meaning it is certified to work as well as the built in storage. Unlike a basic NVME, this edition has a hefty heatsink installed. In fact, most of the thickness of the NVME is the heatsink. That said, the NVME fits in the PS5 under the EMF shield without any issues. Installing the SSD first in a PC to test the maximum throughput reveals that, while the drive is rated at 7,300MBs read, it clocks in just above 6900MBs or just a little over 94% of the stated rate. Maybe that is why WD lists it as up to 7300MBs, but in testing it never achieved close to that speed. While it would be nice if it was closer to the stated spec, the difference is unlikely to ever be noticed. Speeds stayed consistent over repeated runs suggesting the heatsink is doing a good job of removing heat from the memory. If for any reason you need a new SSD in your PC more than in your PS5, the SN850P can handle the job well. Moving the drive over to the PS5 the hardest part of the installation is getting the angle just right to pop off the outer cover. On first startup the PS5 prompts you to format the drive and warns you that any data on the drive will be lost. After formatting a read test is performed and while reports say the PS5 seems to understate the performance of each drive, the SN850 benchmarked at just over 6200MBs. Now we are down to less than 85% of the drive’s stated speed. It is still workable, but if the benchmark is correct it is possible in some cases this would be a noticeable difference in performance between the WD drive and the factory internal drive. That said, overall performance was fast. Transferring Jedi: Fallen Order from the internal drive to the WD drive took less than 50 seconds for nearly 52GB. Starting up the game it was hard to notice any difference in speed. During a stretch of over 2 hours of gameplay there was no noticeable difference in speed. Smaller games no one could tell any difference regardless of if the game was installed on the internal drive or the WD drive. It felt seamless. The only difference we could notice was having over double the storage we started with. Final Thoughts While the WD SN850P might miss the spec sheet by a little bit, the difference isn’t noticeable during use in the PS5 but the solid reliability with the large heatsink is. If you are in the market for upgraded storage for your PS5 and value a drive that is fully certified for use in the PS5, it’s hard to go wrong with the WD SN850P.

The SN850P Internal SSD by Western Digital is specially designed for PS5 and desktops. If you need to add internal memory for your PS5 this is the best way to do so while being able to play directly from the added storage. WD makes 3 versions of this M.2 memory: 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. I tried the 1TB SSD in my PS5, and it worked easily. Installation I wasn’t sure how hard this would be, but it ended up not being too bad. I highly recommend using the Playstation YouTube video to follow through the installation process. Using it, I was able to install the SSD in a few minutes. First, it’s recommended to update your PS5 with the latest system update. Per WD’s website, they want the PS5 to be at least at system software version 21.02-04.00.00 or higher. If you update to the current version prior to the installation, this may help to avoid some installation issues. Next, you need to take apart the PS5 to expose the internal slot for the SSD. You slide the PS5 cover off, remove the plate cover and screw, and then remove the set screw which holds the SSD in place. To install, you’ll place the set screw ring in place, insert the SSD (somewhat angled before laying flat), screw in the set screw, replace the plate cover and screw, and reattach the outer PS5 case. The last part is to set the PS5 back up and run through the formatting process on the new hard drive. When completed, it told me that my read speed was around 6.2 GP/s. I believe that the whole process for me took about 30 minutes, but that included both the system update and the hard drive formatting. Result With about 30 minutes of effort, I was able to more than double my internal memory on my PS5. I can play directly from this memory as opposed to using an external hard drive which requires you to load to the PS5 to play (which means you still need to have available internal memory). If you plan to store a lot on the PS5 you may also consider the 2TB or the 4TB versions. Overall, I am pretty happy with the installation and the results. Though I didn’t get one of the larger SSDs, I am glad that WD makes those options as well. You can always upgrade to a larger HD if you want. I’d recommend this product, and am giving it 5 stars.

A must have for the PS-5. 2GB should have been the entry level of storage on the PS-5, with an option for 4-5GB. This memory upgrade is a no-brainer and a must have. With games taking up more and more storage, this upgrade is for anyone who is going to play more than 3-4 games. To me Western Digital has always been at the top of their game as this gamedrive plus heatsink keeps them there. Well made and designed. The SN850P NVMe SSD is a real winner. With read speeds up to 7,300 MB/s, this is fast enough for almost any gaming application. It is well packaged safely in a plastic case. A directions booklet is included but note the print is tiny. Hard to read even with my glasses. I do wish they included a link to an official installation video. Yes, I know there are others out there, but I wish WD took the time to include a quick start guide that included a barcode to an installation video in multiple languages. Installation is pretty straight forward. Just take your time and do not rush. You be up and running in under 30 minutes. Make sure to avoid static electricity. Overall this is a winner and a addition needed for the PS5. Recommended!!!

This is honestly an essential buy for every PS5 owner. though the ps5 comes with a 1tb hard drive, its simply not nearly enough for even a casual gamer, as modern games all require up to ~130gb of storage, and with the system itself requiring about 200gb of the 1tb storage just to run and operate, that only leaves about 800gb of free storage, and it fills up extremely quickly! but this totally solves the problem! it doubles your storage (2tb and 4tb versions are available also!) and its read speed is very quick as well. it is also the only official PS harddrive, so id trust and prefer this over any other brand as its made specifically for/approved by PS for use with the PS5. its also super easy and quick to install-just remove the rear cover plate and remove one screw and plate, remove one more tiny screw (which will be used to hold the hard drive in place upon installation) and plug it into your PS5, use the second screw you removed to hold it in place, replace the small plate and retorque to screw holding that small plate in place and replace the rear cover and its done! once you turn on your PS5 for the first time after installation, itll ask you to format it, which takes just a minute or two, and its completely done and ready for use! its also relatively inexpensive considering its storage size and features. def get this if you own a PS5 or are buying one, because it will make things much easier and less stressful for you! you could also use this hard drive for a computer if you wanted to, though there are far better options available for pc than this, as its specifically geared towards the PS5.

This is a perfect upgrade for storage for your PS5. If you are like me, with the increase in game sizing only getting BIGGER, it is almost a must to have more and more storage. Western Digital is a well-known, reputable brand, and I have not once regretted purchasing any of their storage options throughout the years. The SN850P is a 1 TB (Terabyte) PCIe Gen 4 SSD (Officially Licensed for PS5!). The read/write is 7,300MB/s and 6,600MB/s, respectively. It comes with a heatsink that helps keep the SSD cool when gaming. For installation, make sure your PS5 is updated to the latest firmware. Once complete, shut down the device, unplug the PS5 and lay flat on a table. Make sure the PS5 logo is face down, and the power button is facing away. Pull up on the bottom right of the top cover with your right hand and slide the cover to the left with the left hand (which is on the top left of the cover). The cover should slide off relatively easily and expose the SSD slot. Use a Philips head screwdriver to remove the first screw and SSD cover. You will need to use a small Philips head to remove the SSD screw and offset. For this SSD, you will install the offset into the “80” slot. Carefully install the SSD by pushing it into the slot firmly, then pushing down so you can screw in the small Philips head back in the newly installed offset. This will firmly seat the SSD. Slide back on the cover and set your PS5 back up. You will be asked to format the SSD once turned back on, which is ok to do. Afterwards, enjoy your new SSD upgrade and the fast read/write speeds!

While the Playstation 5 comes with 825GB of storage, that's not enough to handle more than a few modern games, so unless you're fine with frequently deleting games that you're not currently playing to make room for new stuff, you're going to want some additional storage. Not just any storage, though. It needs to be fast, to handle the PS5's load speed requirements, and it needs to have a good, slim heatsink to dissipate heat, because there's no airflow hitting that part of the board. Western Digital's SN850P with it's preinstalled heatsink is a fantastic all-in-one solution. There are plenty of drives out there that will work with the Playstation 5, but knowing this one was designed specifically to meet the machine's requirements is great for peace of mind when making a purchase. The packaging is pretty barebones, just a small blister pack with the drive and small pamphlet, though no instructions are included. There are plenty of easy to find guides out there on the internet, but it feels like some basic information or even a QR code to some instructions would be helpful. The process is simple, just pull off the PS5's lower plate, unscrew the shield, pop the drive in, fix it in place and close it up in reverse order. The PS5 autodetected, formatted and tested the drive, with a result in excess of 6500MB/s - more than enough to get the job done. So far, it's performing very well in my system, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to expand their PS5 storage.

THIS… Is Western Digitals Gen 4 1TB drive that works for PS5 and all M.2 capable PC’s. I personally placed this in my PS5 which was quite unfortunate because this SSD looks quite sleek to never see it again. The all black, metal enclosure had some weight to it and an overall great fit and finish that we have come to expect from WD products. This was actually so easy to install on PS5 that I was wondering why it took me so long expand my storage. For installing on PS5, I found that PlayStation has a great video tutorial and the only hard part is and always has been taking the sides off the PS5. I found a good trick which is to pull the top corner back and then slide the bottom down. This fit easily into the PS5 and I have had zero issues with it! I think this is a great option for expanding your PS5 or PC’s storage to gen 4 specifications. As always, Bestbuy has excellent customer service and return policy, so you never have to worry about buying a product that you don’t like… so why not test it out?!

This is a must get investment if you struggle with storage in your ps5. It’s amazing and allows me to have all my games that I love to play. With the base storage of 500 gb I can only have a few games as most games are 100-200 gb and that isn’t enough anymore. This ssd makes like so much easier and with the easy installation and ease of use it’s an 10/10. I love it. MUST BUY if you want to have all your games. Would buy again.
