Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Blue 500GB Internal SSD SATA's performance, price, and ease of use, citing faster boot times and improved overall system responsiveness. Many appreciate the ample storage capacity for their files and the straightforward installation process. While some users experienced issues with the included software and warranty duration, the positive feedback on performance and value significantly outweighs these concerns. The drive is also praised for its quiet operation and reduced heat compared to traditional hard drives.

I bought (10) each of two items - and it ended up becoming twenty different transactions and shipments. Totally ridiculous. I won't buy from Best Buy online again until the process is better. Take a look at Amazon (I can get the same products there BTW).

Bought this to replace a HDDsata drive. The free clone software is hard to use and I still am unable to use the SSD drive . I had no problems with Samsung drives.

I recently purchased and installed a Crucial SSD drive and updated the memory in my office laptop without a hitch. They supplied a link to a program that had clear and simple instructions to follow. It works great! I decided I would do the same thing for my wife's home computer so I picked up this WD Blue drive from Best Buy. The WD drive had no information whatsoever on cloning and installing this drive. The website was useless and The Geek Squad was unable to help. I'll probably keep it to use as an external drive but I was very disappointed with trying to install it as a replacement for the internal HDD.

I easily used Acronis 2016 WD edition software (download from web) to clone a mostly empty 1TB to this 500 gig drive after I put it in a simple USB 3.0 enclosure. Then I powered off the computer and swapped out the drives. Booted right up. Is capable of 6.0 gbps class speeds and showed that capability with my system via Ed's Ssd monitoring program (also found on Ed's website), which also lets you check for drive firmware updates. System is booting faster and one kid is saying his twitch shooter games are playing a smidge better, so mission accomplished.

Does the job - prices need to keep falling. SSDs are on their way down in price, but at this point, need to not take so long to get to reasonable prices.

The process is ridiculous! I had estimated wait times of 3-4 hours. The possibility of this service being beneficial is negated by the difficulty of connecting for a request. When you went to a central call system in lieu of direct home store contact the customer service component went to the trash heap. No one wants to talk to machines programmed to limited service and comprehension. I am a Best Buy customer because of my limits in technology and the help I received for all of my difficulties. As of now my purchases will be to the least costly vendor.

I have an older I7-3770K computer from Dell that I put this SSD into. I was impressed with how easy it was to copy my OS hard drive onto this, install it, and swap out my existing drive. I had software already that allowed me to clone my existing drive onto this SSD, so I could simply then shutdown, install, and power up the PC with the SSD. I instantly saw improved performance with my PC. Startup on my PC improved significantly, and I reformatted my existing mechanical drive to use it to store photos, videos, etc.

Far from being a stranger to Western Digital drives, I have always wanted to give their SSD's a try with the most well known OS. I have a multi desktop setup, and already have one setup with linux. That one impressed me off the bat. However, I have always wondered how the other OS would perform with a similar drive. The cloning process was a breeze (just use your favorite search engine to find instructions) and you can find many free products that will do this for you. Once I did that, I was off and running. Just a small tip, make sure that your current drive and this SSD are the only two drives connected during cloning. Don't ask me how I know.. *cough*... It lead to an embarrassing situation I'd rather not talk about. Once you are cloned from your old drive, just pop the old one out and put this one in its place. Reboot, and you are done. Once everything checks out, power down again, and reconnect any other drives. I know it sounds like a difficult process, but honestly it isn't. Now, onto the performance. Does it do what it says on the box? Yes! First of all, my boot time went from about 50-55 seconds to around 16 seconds! That's from hitting power to the desktop being fully loaded and ready to go!! To me that is the best indicator of a HD's performance. From one SSD to another I get consistent reads of 450-500MB/S and roughly the same with write speed. The lower end is if you are transferring large files (over 1-2 gigs). Whereas smaller files ZIP right from one drive to another. Something I never thought would be possible with this most popular "other" OS. I think that right now, most SSD's are at a price point that one would have to be "not right" not to utilize them in their PC's or laptops. WD has also proven to me how reliable their drives are in the past, and have never had any issue with them. There is a included piece of software "SSD Dashboard" that will let you keep an eye on the drives' status. But don't worry, you'll have nothing to worry about :) GO FOR IT, and get this drive!

SSDs are now my first upgrade for any computer

I've installed 5 SSDs in the last month and several more in the past 3 years. This Western Digital drive performs on par with all the other ones that I've installed across brands such as SanDisk, Crucial, and Samsung. When selecting an SSD to purchase, I try to make sure that sequential read and write speeds above 500 MB/sec are supported by the drive. Actual performance will vary with the system that the SSD is placed into. I also try to make sure that the price for a 500 GB drive is about $100 or less. You have to know what you're doing with this drive. It includes no manual. Just a warranty/legal pamphlet. This particular SSD went into a mini desktop system that did not have any extra SATA ports nor extra power cables. Since I wanted to transfer the OS from the existing mechanical drive, I had to use a USB to SATA adapter that I had. Once connected, I utilized Minitool's Partition Wizard Free to clone the existing drive to the SSD. I've tried EaseUS Todo Backup on my first SSDs and that utility worked great at the time. I've tried to use it more recently but it would get hung up on minor errors. Minitool's Partition Wizard has worked well for my past several systems, but be vigilant in the installation process because it wants to install 3rd party software. I didn't realize until later that Western Digital offers their own branded version of Acronis True Image for transferring the OS from a previous drive to the SSD. I might have tried it, but from some reviews, it sounds like the software hangs on minor errors as well. Actual performance as tested by CrystalDiskMark is 558 MB/Sec Sequential Read and 533 MB/Sec Sequential Write. As a result, boot time is blazing fast and application launches are nearly instantaneous. I highly recommend a swap from a mechanical drive to SSD as a first upgrade to any modern computer and this Western Digital drive fits the bill nicely.
