This external Drive is awesome. So easy to hook up and it looks great next to my PS5. There is so much room on it, I may never fill it up!

I got this to offload a bunch of data from an old FreeNas server that I had been using for years on an HP ML350. I moved all of the data over to this and have plenty of room left, and the performance of this single USB3 external disk is easily as good as the old server was for the way I'm using it. Happy with the purchase, might get another one.

So far so good. This external hard drive is pretty quiet compared to some. I know this as I have fixed quite a few for friends and associates. Amongst other tests I have performed, with multiple PC's and laptops I have simply yanked the USB connector while an upload was in process. My concern is not being able to detect the external hard drive in the supporting operating system (Windows, etc.). No problems seen. From what I could find through research, this is one of the more hardened External backup drives available on the market. The last thing anyone wants is to have all of their life savings of data become unreachable, possibly forever. For the record, I have NOT received anything for this review. Just like you, I do not want to buy anything that is junk or that may fail in short order. The Component Design life of this drive is 5 years. This next number should also be mentioned. The Annualized Failure rate is less than .8%. The Annualized failure rate gives the estimated probability that a device or component will fail during a full year of use. From what I read, the yearly failure rate rate of hard drives in general has risen in the past three years, reaching 1.37% in 2022. For some manufacturers, after examining their drives through 2023, there was an increase in failure rates to 2.28 percent. This is a number you want to look at and review before you purchase an external hard drive. Be specific in your research, as this can be subjective. Just my two cents.

Gperfect to never have to worry about storage again on my ps5. You would never know this is a mechanical drive honestly notice no difference from the 1tb ssd I had used prior. So worth the extra money.

I used this external drive to manage the transfer of data from an old computer to the new one, where the new one did not have as much storage as we needed. (I switched from magnetic hard drive to solid-state.) It was between two iMacs. I set up the WD_BLACK as one giant 8-TB partition and put our Documents folder there, along with a spare backup of the entire old computer. Everything has been seamless, but of course the drive is brand new, so time will tell. I have done no speed measurements. Price was quite competitive.

Doesn't come close to read/write speeds of any SSD, but the cost:space ratio is worth the 10-20 minutes of delay to move things from ps5 weak onboard storage capacity to play at a later date. Same price, 8TB HDD or 2 TB SSD with 15 minute transfer speed difference. Learn some patience, read a chapter in a book, make a cup of coffee. Reflect on life, then game on.

It is incredible how far data storage has come in the past 15 years. Capacity relative to price point is so much better than ever before, and this external has been a great addition to the digital hoarding hardware in my professional content studio environments. I have been using western digital for almost two decades now, and have never felt safer with my data in terms of drive failure. This particular drive feels very well made, and is really attractive both with price point and aesthetic.

HUGE storage and fast transfer speeds (~230+MB\s). Has 7200 RPM speed, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface. It may not be an SSD, but this is a great compromise and a better option than a FireCuda SSHD. The avg Firecuda transfer speed is ~116MB\s whereas CrystalDisk show this drive with read and write speeds above 240MB\s. It even has 2 additional 7.5W charging ports in the back. NOT travel friendly because it cannot be powered over USB and requires power from the included external power adapter.

    Great External Hardrive!

First off, I'm an OG gamer from back in the Atari and Intellivision days. I am pretty picky about what I say is a good product or not. It was easy to setup. Seamless installation process. Having this much storage space is awesome! If you have friends that play different games and you are tired of uninstalling and installing just to play with them, this is the solution to that problem. You can store your PS5 games on this drive but cannot play them from it. Storing them on it greatly reduces the amount of time it takes to install a game by the direct transfer from the external hardrive to the PS5. I've had it running for days with zero overheating issues as well. Hope this review helps.

This is top notch add on for my PS4 pro. The drive allows for substantial amount of games and the best part is the speed to access is faster then the internal hard drive. You can cut 10 seconds to a minute off of large games

This is a very useful item if you are tired of barely have space for new games on your console. I love knowing I can download whatever I want and not having to worry about storage. Excellent purchase. The only issue is that you can’t play ps5 games from it you have to transfer games from the storage device to the console every time but I’m not sure if that’s because of the PlayStation 5 or this device. Either way it’s a great purchase.
