I really wanted to like this one.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've read a lot of good reviews about this one. I was excited to purchase this and when I did, first thing out of the box there was a constant clicking and stuttering noise. I thought it was probably buffering and let it sit for at least 30 mins or more but the sound persisted. I reached out to WD and they said to just return it and that they couldn't do anything about it. At this point, I was thinking about switching brands due to the many failures I've experienced with WD. I thought it may have just been a dud and that i'd give WD another shot. The exchange was smooth and customer service was great. THey exchanged it and the process was smooth. The second device is working well and no clicking or stuttering sound. Just one week later today, it now has a BEEPING noise and my PC and TV cannot detect it. Googled it and it says power issues but I've tried that and all my electronics have more than sufficient power. 2nd unit of WD Black is not defective. Returning it. WD, didn't work out for me. Going with a different brand this time.

Great. Not portable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works as it should. The title on BB says portable ,normally when hard drives say portable. Its only because it doesnt need its own power supply. This hdd does have its own power supply.

Not good for new gen game systems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only reason I gave it 3 star rating is because I cannot play Xbox series s games from it you still have to move it and switch games back and forth to the internal storage so it's not really worth it for what I need it for

Died 75 days out of warranty
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased directly from the WD Store and have owned this for three years now, hooked up to a RPi as a NAS drive. It died about 75 days after the warranty expired. It's been chugging right along until last night it started to suddenly sound like a race car with someone pumping the gas pedal while it is in park. Drive stopped being recognized at that point until I unplugged it, waited a few minutes, then plugged it back in. It'll run for about 15 minutes until it fails again. Luckily I was able to transfer most of my files onto a bunch of other drives on my machine before it totally died. This isn't the first WD drive I have purchased that has failed catastrophically. I'm going to be buying SAMSUNG or Seagate SSDs from now on, WD engineers these things to die just outside of the Warranty period.
