I'm impressed with the WD D30 1TB external SSD.  I've tried it out on both the PS4 as well as PC gaming.  This is my first experience with having an external drive fast enough to use as both storage and to seamlessly play from without having to move the game files to the internal drive.    In the box are the hard drive, stand, and USB C to A cable. Plug and play setup with regards to the PS4, once plugged in you will need to format and then it's straightforward to either move games from the PS4 internal drive or to download games onto the external drive. Testing with PC transfers, I can move files to the drive at approximately 500 MB/s, and reading from the drive, I was close to the advertised rate of 900 MB/s.  This means I was able to transfer FFXV, just north of 100GB, in ~15 minutes versus the hours it took to download via the internet.  While I can't speak to PS5 performance, the D30 performance ensures I can continue to keep my favorite games on the external drive for PS4 / PC as well as take them on the go.  I highly recommend this drive for all portable or expansion needs.

The wd black d30 ssd drive is a perfect choice for those gamers who made the jump to ps5. The wd ssd drive is noticeably faster than your standard hdd. Whether installing games to the external ssd or copying them to the internal ssd in the ps5 both times were pretty fast which leads to more time playing instead of waiting. The wd ssd d30 comes with everything you need right out of the box no need for an external power source. I have been extremely impressed with the speed and performance of this drive and would definitely recommend to any ps5 owner or pc gamer.

Not sure what the reasoning for Sony to include such a small hard drive in the PS5. I added this D130 1TB hard drive on for extra space to save games. Loading times are extremely fast from the hard drive. Copying games to it is also extremely fast and easy to do. It comes with a base so you can sit it upright. I put the base on and now I can't figure out how to get it off... The hard drive looks good and functions as it should. Get it.

The WD Black D30 1TB External SSD fits the bill for gamers (console or PC) who prioritize speed over having a ton of games installed on their external drive. When modern releases can top 100GB (ME:LE came in at 112!) the 1TB size of this drive will accommodate a small gaming library. Speed wise the drive is dramatically faster than the standard drive in the PS4 Pro. When I connected it to my PC to do some tests, it was as advertised - 900MB/s reads and 550MB/s writes. My only complaint with the D30 is the form factor - the gaming design is bulky and industrial. which is a little cliche. However, I did a bit of research and found that the drive has a massive heatsink inside, which bodes well for consistent speeds long term, so I'll give the size a pass.

I've been a fan of WD products for a while now. This D30 1TB external hard drive was just the ticket I needed to increase storage capacity. Easy to install and set up, even a boomer could do it! The issue with externals is--they're outside the system and can be prone to slowness or throttling. Not to mention, Where does it go that it looks ok? This Hard Drive looks like it belongs, like it's a component that's supposed to be there. Performance? You'll never know this is an external drive. As an SSD, there's no "spooling up" noise, or lag when the console accesses it. I experienced no lag, freezing, pixelating or game drop while using. A thumbs up and a definite reccomendation.
