    I bought this to back-up my 12TB Movie server based on size and specs of the Drive - 7200rpm. Once I hooked it up, I noticed it taking too long to transfer files. I ran some testing and the Hard drive came back as a 5400rpm drive. I then researched even further and sent the question to Western Digital whether this should be a 5400 or 7200 rpm drive. WD came back with 5400rpm. So Best Buy is advertising the WRONG specs of the drive. Don't get me wrong, the drive works and has a little more than 11TB of capacity. I didn't exchange it cause I needed it right then to do the task at hand. Just be aware, this is NOT a 7200rpm external HD, it IS a 5400rpm.

    Brought on sale black friday, excellent value for size of the drive. Wanted a 10TB but the 12 was better priced. Drive tested with WD diagnostics and passed, I always fully test my hard drives before I ever put any data on them. Its best to take time at the beginning to test than risk data failure.

    From what I have seen, these are CMR drives, not SMR. This is good. They do continue to spin after being ejected, at least in my use case. I connect them, a backup job runs, and then automatically unmounts the drive. I wish they would spin down and turn off/down the light so I can visually and/or audibly determine it is safe to physically remove the cable.
