I bought this as a backup media for my NAS. Plugged in, verified it worked and left it alone. It's been working great. The largish size of the drive was a important factor for me. So far works great. Do wish it had a slightly longer AC cord.

The western digital easy store 14 terabyte external hard drive with USB 3.0 support is a nice hard drive for just about anything you wish to store. Pros* Low price Easy to setup Cons* It does not have hardware based encryption on it! but you can get software encryption if security matters to you.

Just because it looks new doesn mean it is.

Easystore drives have been a great source of drives for my NAS setup. When I get them, I normally open the box, plug them into USB to make sure everything is okay. And then shuck them. I know that that likely voids the warranty, but at the price I can generally live with the risk. However, I had the unbelievable happen to me. I purchased a few "new", sealed easydrives. I forgot to do the USB check on one of them, and as soon as I shucked the container, I knew I'd just lost a good deal of money. The sold as "new" drive had a DELL drive in it with a sticker that said "BAD". When I looked to the back, there was no light pipe. Plugging it in at this point confirmed what the sticker said -- the drive is dead. Since I'd already shucked it, I know I'm out of options. This is an expensive lesson to learn. But I'm putting up the review to let everyone know that just because the seals are intact on the box and drive does not mean that all is good. So, get the drives, but always check them every time.

    Works until it doesn't

This drive was fine until it wasn't. Hadn't had it plugged in for a few months, this has never been an issue with previous drives, but now I come to find both this and my 4TB WD Passport have mysteriously died, the PC knows something is plugged in but can't give me any data. I've tried using 3 different USB cables, plugged into a USB 3.0 port, and they consistently fail. I tested my Crucial T5 1TB external SSD to make sure it's not an issue with my computer and it works flawlessly. Really disappointed in this. I can only wish WD didn't have such a monopoly on hard drives and offered better support and ANY data recovery services, considering I've lost so much data! This was a 14TB and 4TB set of external hard drives! I'm expected to spend all the money to get data recovery done on these, WD should have to, I trusted them with my data and they broke that trust.

WD easy store privacy policy states very clearly that they will sell your information and they are going to keep any and all information linked to the storage you are using. The wording specifies linked in your computer and everything your computer has ever been used for including the ability to sell these things to other parties and other countries. they say you have the right to decline but the moment you do, it will not let you upload or use their product pretty shady business

Very NOISY hard drive. I record studio samples so this drive is useless. I would return but I ahve already backedup my samples so I will forgive this. Terrible. Also It is only a 12 TeraByte Drive. They obviously do not know the MicroSoft Standards. 12TB. I bought my Sandisk and Western Digital and other models which are the TERABYTES they advertise in detection. I would say I'd return it but I have a lot of samples already stored. I throw this noisy drive into the closet in case I ever need my samples later on down the road.

Failed after less than two years with very minimal use. It was a backup hard drive that gets plugged in maybe once or twice every few months. Extremely disappointed. Never had a drive fail this quickly or suddenly. Junk

Great drive for a extra backup location. I'm not sure if its my PC or the drive but the write speed was pretty slow and took over a day to copy 12TB to it.

Bought two of these in-store and brought them home, only to be surprised about the significantly lower storage capacity. Tried to return but couldn’t because it was tampered with previously. The enclosure was broken during the inspection process so I can not even submit a warranty. Do not recommend buying unless you’re willing to take a risk

Normally I'm a fan of WD, but we always test our hard drives before using them. This unit FAILED the Complete Drive Test (full media scan) in the official WD Utilities tool. We ran the test twice, and the drive failed both times. :( Hopefully Best Buy just got a bad batch around the holidays. We will be exchanging the bad drives soon and will test the replacements as well.

I have 4x 8TB WD EasyStores that I "shucked" and mounted in my Dell Precision T7910 workstation as a RAID 10 volume. Plus I have external 4TB, 5TB, 10TB, 14TB, and 16TB EasyStores. I've never had one fail. They're fast, affordable, and reliable. Speaking as a 40 year IT professional - you should always have disconnected backups both on-site and off-site. The more the better. There's something colloquially called "bit rot" where bits get flipped and it affects the integrity of a file, or files if it happens to the file system directory. There are several reasons why bits are flipped or dropped, but the earth is continuously bombarded by rays from the sun and elsewhere in the galaxy. "Cosmic rays attract great interest practically, due to the damage they inflict on microelectronics and life outside the protection of an atmosphere and magnetic field". So having more backups of critical files gives you the best possibility to have a good copy.

The Western Digital EasyStore 14TB is a storage solution that combines massive capacity with user-friendly features, making it a perfect choice for those in need of substantial storage space without the hassle. The standout feature, of course, is the enormous 14TB capacity. Whether you're a content creator, a digital hoarder, or simply someone who values having a single place to store years' worth of data, this drive delivers. It's a versatile choice for storing everything from high-definition videos to extensive photo libraries. The EasyStore 14TB is designed with simplicity in mind. The plug-and-play functionality means you can have it up and running within seconds, whether you're using it on a PC or Mac. The included USB connection ensures compatibility with a wide range of devices, from desktop computers to gaming consoles. In terms of performance, the drive maintains a reliable and steady data transfer rate. While it might not be the fastest external drive on the market, its consistent performance ensures that large files are moved without hiccups. One notable aspect is the drive's reliability. Western Digital is a trusted name in the storage industry, known for producing durable products that stand the test of time. With the EasyStore 14TB, you can have peace of mind knowing your valuable data is in safe hands. The drive's compact and sleek design makes it easy to place on a desk or tuck away in a drawer, without cluttering your workspace. Its quiet operation adds to its unobtrusive nature.
