Easystore 14TB Drive Review I've got to tell you about my experience with the WD - Easystore 14TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive. It's been awesome, honestly. First off, the price was a total win for me. I snagged it at a great deal, and it's worth every penny for the amount of storage I got. The speed? It's pretty slick. Transferring my massive photo collections to the drive is a breeze. It is spec'd to average around 180-190MB/s, and I totally believe it. I'm backing up tons of photos with Mylio Photos, and it hasn't skipped a beat. Setting it up was a piece of cake too. I had no issues getting it up and running. It's really user-friendly, which I appreciate. I've been using it non-stop for my photo backups, and it's been holding up really well. No hiccups or anything. I'm planning on getting another one soon because it's been that reliable. Seriously, if you're looking for a hard drive that gives you a ton of space, is fast, and super easy to set up, you should definitely check out this WD Easystore drive. I'm super happy with it and highly recommend it for anyone who needs something like this.

This was my first Easystore drive from Western Digital, but I've got a few Essentials drives, which are really the same exact thing. In all cases I highly recommend these drives, especially when deeply on sale ($199 for 14TB is pretty sweet!). They are fast, reliable, and even better, pretty quiet. I have some Seagate 14TB external drives, which are also reliable and fast, but they tend to be the Exos server type drives (in high capacity) and make so much noise that people often return them, thinking they are broken. They are just meant for servers, so the noise isn't a factor in that case, but for home use they sound like they are constantly dying. Anyway, these WD drives tend to be just as fast and reliable without all the noise, so they are my top choice. Knock on wood, but I've yet to have one be faulty, or die on me thus far. Great drives, fast, reliable, quiet, and reasonably priced...and massive storage. Hooray!

I love these drives! My oldest one is right at 10 years old, smaller but still works. Thus the reason I got a new one. I keep 2 of these drives cloned with important stuff, old family pics, family recipes etc, things I never want to lose ever! My older one got to small, so now cloning the old one here to have more room for new stuff. Easy to install, unhook, store in safe box etc. So easy a beginner can do it, and I find Western Digital last longer than other brands.

economical way to add large backup storage

Have bought quite a number of drives from EasyStore line these past few years. They go on sale regularly and are probably the most economical way to get some larger storage sizes for your backup purposes, or extracting the drive inside for use in a NAS. If you are not "shucking" the drive to toss in a NAS, and are intending to use it as the external backup device as designed, a few things to consider: 1) the enclosure has no fan in it. They will heat up quickly if there's no airflow in the room. I've seen it hit 50-60C no problem. You don't want this. Toss a fan nearby to move some air through it. I ended up buying a USB fan to blow air on it and keep the temps in the 30s. There are a number of styles for this type cooler. I went with the ' AC Infinity MULTIFAN S4, Quiet 140mm USB Fan'. That one I got from a vendor named for the big river in South America...which conveniently has a website. 2) a backup is not a backup unless it's available when you need it. Keep this attached 24/7 to your computer won't do a lick of good when the fire, tornado, or godzilla rips through the house. Get your backups offsite. If you're doing frequent writes, buy a second and cycle them at regular intervals. Please search and read up on "3-2-1 backup strategy", and try to employ it. 3) There's not really any cushion in the enclosure. Should it take a tumble, consider the unit gone. The controller inside is kinda fragile too and I've had a few fail without the tumble. Sometimes the drives inside are still good, but sometimes not. It wouldn't be a bad idea to buy these in pairs and mirror them, that way in case one dies you still have the data. Of course, you're not really storing unique data here, right? right? Wait until these go on sale and pick them up then. Happens every couple months, with largest savings always at Black Friday. Use a site like shucks.top to monitor prices and purchase when the prices are best in your favor. Lastly, when picking up the purchase, first thing to do is check over the box and scan for any signs of tampering. You want to be sure you've gotten a new product and not something returned. You deserve that full 14TB drive you paid for. You can use a free tool like CrystalDiskInfo to quickly check whether the drive you received is the one you purchased. I've used both the pickup in-store and the locker pickup arrangements. Have not had an issue with either. They'll ask your ID if doing the in-store pickup, and will require scanning or entering a code if doing the locker. The same-day locker pickup might be more useful if you can only get to the store outside operating hours. These have been really good drives to me, and I hope they will be for you too. I deduct one star due to the lack of cooling and drop protection, but I guess if they added that the price would no longer be so economical.

I got this product during Black Friday 2020 and it has suited my needs for storage of movies and video clips. I never realized that 14TB storage could still look this sleek and the package was compact. I definitely enjoyed the look of the drive and yes, you do need a separate power adapter connected to this baby which is included. Reading and write speeds are average for a drive of this size and I definitely love how easy it is to drag and drop your files. Overall, I could see a definite advantage to using this item long-term. Thanks Best Buy for a good product!

    Reliable shuckable drives

Great shuckable drives. These are white label, 7200 RPM, helium-enclosed CMR drives with the same hardware code as the Ultratsar HC530. These drives likely have different firmware to lower performance. I've shucked 13 of the 10TB model, 12 of the 16TB model, and 8 of the 14TB model. None were DOA and I haven't seen a single bad sector on any of the drives. Due to the helium-sealed enclosure, these disks idle at around 5-5.5W (~0.4W/TB) versus 2.5W/TB on my 7200 RPM air HGST drives. They also run cooler than the air drives. As these drives are CMR, they can be used with good performance for ZFS or hardware/software RAID. I'm using these drives in a ZFS pool.

Been using WD Easystore external HD for over a decade. Took the drive and put it in my NAS, never encounter any issues with it. HD is like an RED WD drive equivalent but it's a WHITE label (have to check the model/serial # to know). Bought it on super sales and should have bought more as haven't see matching sales deal anymore. Left the drive unopened due to Covid lockdown and forgot about it until recently needing more storage on my NAS. Will buy more but have to wait for BestBuy super sales again.

Fantastic price per GB. I was in need of more storage for my media server. It’s cheaper these days to buy external drives and shuck them (remove from Enclosure and use internally). These drives are WD white series! They can’t be beat. Several YouTube videos showing how to shuck and modify the power pins to work internally. Best Buy had a great sale on them @ $189! Drive has been performing perfectly! Will buy more next time there on sale. I won’t be able to resist. Again, WD White drives. Even if your using as an external drive, they are high quality 7200rpm drives. Hard to beat. After all it’s all about what’s inside that matters.

I've had a lot of storage (not RAM) over the years, so the need for a 14 TB hard drive was a bit shocking. I'm hoping this will be my last backup drive for a while. It works great, no installation for a fellow that enjoys electronics. Sometimes I look at my drive, just sitting there... blinking quietly; it warms my cold robotic heart. Thanks for holding on to my data, new friend.

Got this on a Black Friday sale for $200. Best price had seen and have since. No problems. Runs cool, quiet. Have filled with almost 12tb of data since. No failures, issues. Have had on off luck with the Best Buy Easystore. Got a 12tb that heats up to 60c easily. So be sure to test capacity and temps for the length of return period. Don't just leave in box thinking is fine. This one has worked great, no problems like before. Good for storing large amounts of movies etc before the streaming sites censor them all. Would recommend.

I got this 14TB HDD for a great price @ $189.99, and in the last few weeks of use, I am left with no complaints; everything works as it should and I have not experienced any issue with noise or clicking as some others have reported, unfortunately. This is strictly for personal, non-professional use for backing up a variety of file types. I have not yet run the backup software that is included, or any other software for that matter, so I cannot comment on that. Nevertheless, it was a breeze to set up, quite straightforward really. I did notice that after ceasing to operate the drive (after having initiated activity between the WD and my internal drive, such as during a file transfer, and then going on about my business while leaving the external WD powered on), the drive spins down when not in direct use. This of course adds to its longevity and preserves its lifespan, as others have pointed out. This can, however, be a bit annoying as it requires a brief moment for the drive to start up again should you want to resume file transfer and such between the drives. But if it's working to its own benefit on the other hand, I can tolerate this minor inconvenience. The overall size and design of the case is quite decent, though short of extraordinary, if anybody was concerned. Although a matte finish would probably be ideal to avoid fingerprints and scuffs (reminiscent of WD's My Book model, it appears), I also appreciate the glossy finish on this one. It's nice to glance at this mini tower from time to time and realize that I am set for half a lifetime as far as storage solutions go :)

Bought 6 of these to shuck, no problems after 5 months of continuous use. Internal drives were all helium-filled CMR drives. They can get a bit toasty if you hammer them with reads/writes for a while, so you may want a fan blowing on them (a token amount of airflow is all you need). They were a great value on Black Friday (12.86/TB), though less so as of this writing.

I purchased this at a really good price so I am extremely happy about the price per megabytes equation. Its a quality drive with speedy access and copious amounts of storage. I've found Western Digitals external drives to be much, much more reliable than Seagate's equivalents so take that into consideration when considering what drive/brand to purchase.

Perfect for my Xbox Series X. If you’re anything like me, you have a ton of game pass games that you will probably never touch in your lifetime but like to have them installed ‘just in case’. Even though the Xbox comes with a 1TB SSD, that’s just not enough after a couple Call Of Duty games that are series S and X enhanced. I only have a handful of enhanced games, and those are the only ones that need faster storage, so this was the perfect external hard drive for me as far as value per TB goes. It perfectly works with my Xbox and I can store hundreds of games without it breaking a sweat. Been using it for almost 5-6 months now and it hasn’t given me any problems even with multiple random power outages while downloading games to it. Only thing I will mention that’s not the greatest about the unit is that it is loud when it reads or writes, but I think it only annoys me because the Xbox constant turns it on and off while in sleep mode so it goes off all the time.
