These massive harddrives were a great buy on sale. They are very responsive even though they only have 5400rpm drive. However, that means they will last longer and generate less heat. I tested throughput and it was not much less than a 7200rpm seagate external, so that means it is limited by the USB3.1 speed.

Value for money! They packaged the whole thing really nicely and it fit in the box exactly and didn't move around. At sales prices for 189.99 each, it is $13.57/TB, the lowest price at the moment.

This drive was fine until it wasn't. Hadn't had it plugged in for a few months, this has never been an issue with previous drives, but now I come to find both this and my 4TB WD Passport have mysteriously died, the PC knows something is plugged in but can't give me any data. I've tried using 3 different USB cables, plugged into a USB 3.0 port, and they consistently fail. I tested my Crucial T5 1TB external SSD to make sure it's not an issue with my computer and it works flawlessly. Really disappointed in this. I can only wish WD didn't have such a monopoly on hard drives and offered better support and ANY data recovery services, considering I've lost so much data! This was a 14TB and 4TB set of external hard drives! I'm expected to spend all the money to get data recovery done on these, WD should have to, I trusted them with my data and they broke that trust.

I found the external drive easy to set up however it didn’t come with a cable to attach to my computer, luckily I had one laying around but it’s a unusual cable to have. See picture of cable needed, the other end I’m using is USB, however I believe if you have one with the lightning end instead of USB it may be faster data transfer rates. You may want to look into which cable type is the fastest to use with it before hand and make sure you have it available as a port on your computer. The drive works fine as storage and backup and comes with some recovery software. Unfortunately I had just purchased some recovery software the day before.

Easystore drives have been a great source of drives for my NAS setup. When I get them, I normally open the box, plug them into USB to make sure everything is okay. And then shuck them. I know that that likely voids the warranty, but at the price I can generally live with the risk. However, I had the unbelievable happen to me. I purchased a few "new", sealed easydrives. I forgot to do the USB check on one of them, and as soon as I shucked the container, I knew I'd just lost a good deal of money. The sold as "new" drive had a DELL drive in it with a sticker that said "BAD". When I looked to the back, there was no light pipe. Plugging it in at this point confirmed what the sticker said -- the drive is dead. Since I'd already shucked it, I know I'm out of options. This is an expensive lesson to learn. But I'm putting up the review to let everyone know that just because the seals are intact on the box and drive does not mean that all is good. So, get the drives, but always check them every time.

I bought two of these drives about a year ago, removed them from the enclosure, and put them inside by NAS for use with ZFS. So far, no problems at all. I just bought a third one to use as a backup drive. Shucking them is a little annoying but worth it for the price.

Fast and easy setup to use - just plug it in. Reliability will only take time. I bought 2 of these that I use to mirror 4K video files for temp backup/storage before editing on my main SSDs. I have found that the USB3 on these is fast enough to allow full frame editing in Premiere with no lag (except upon thumbnail load).

So far so good. It has a WD140EDGZ-11B2DA2 helium drive inside. A little noisier than some of my other external hard drives, but (for me) it just fades into background noise. Out of box, read and write are about 215 MB/s. At 1/3 full, they are 198 MB/s. Attached is CrystalDiskMark screenshot. 2-year warranty is good (better than 1-year on the Seagate externals I looked at); wish it had the 3-year of the WD My Books.

At the time I bought this, it was a great price. The drives in these were durable and made great additions to my Plex server. If you are looking for cheap NAS storage, it is hard to beat these when on sale.

Excellent drive while a bit loud the internal drive features an enterprise class helium filled drive operating at 7200 rpm. The drive is more on the moderate speeds read and writing at an average of 153mb/sec. Great value for the capacity.
