I bought this on sale for right around $200, It was a good value at that price. I actually bought 10 of them. 8 of 10 were able to write at over 220MB/s. Two of them were a newer drive with a more recent manufacture date and hit 240MB/s but had slower random write throughput. They also get quite hot if your transfer takes more than an hour. I'm taking one star off because of the bad random performance.

    Great External Drive for Storage

I bought this on sale for $199, and that makes it a good value for me. I don't think I'll ever fill out the entire drive. I have the same drive that I purchased a couple years ago that is connected to my computer that I use as the main storage. I keep pictures, documents, ripped CDs, ripped movie files in this drive. Still plenty of space left. I bought a second drive to back up my files from my first drive. Pictures, videos and music files are invaluable to me. So, backing them up is a no brainer for me, and this drive feels like it has unlimited space for my usage. I don't keep this drive plugged in at all time, so it won't break or malfunction or become corrupt if I kept it on and plugged in at all time. I back up to this drive as soon as I save new pictures and videos into my main drive. Just FYI, this drive stops spinning after a period of inactivity, which is great for longevity, but you'll need to wait 10 seconds for it to "wake up" if you need to access it. If you need immediate access and quick speeds, this is not the drive for you. Go for an SSD.

I purchased this at a really good price so I am extremely happy about the price per megabytes equation. Its a quality drive with speedy access and copious amounts of storage. I've found Western Digitals external drives to be much, much more reliable than Seagate's equivalents so take that into consideration when considering what drive/brand to purchase.

Using it as a home for our yearbook photos. 30 Students are using this as the storage place for the photos they take for our yearbook and I can say that this is working great. Instead of buying a number of smaller drives with the bigger files with our new cameras, this has become the best solution for our needs. No, drive conflicts, tons of space and fast enough for our needs. We're not editing videos and it's purely for photos and it is great.

This is a huge, reasonably fast and very quiet external drive. I had a lot of files on some portable hard drives that I wanted organize and eliminate duplicates and this drive really does the job. Reasonable price per TB. I've had consistently good luck with WD drives too.

Very reliable and much better than the other brands. Good speeds upwards usually of 150KB through the UDB3.0 connection. Bought it on the black friday event sale at a suburb price that best buy had. You wont be disappointed I. This purchase any of the easystore western digital products will serve you well. Did not remove for shucking purposes.

economical way to add large backup storage

Have bought quite a number of drives from EasyStore line these past few years. They go on sale regularly and are probably the most economical way to get some larger storage sizes for your backup purposes, or extracting the drive inside for use in a NAS. If you are not "shucking" the drive to toss in a NAS, and are intending to use it as the external backup device as designed, a few things to consider: 1) the enclosure has no fan in it. They will heat up quickly if there's no airflow in the room. I've seen it hit 50-60C no problem. You don't want this. Toss a fan nearby to move some air through it. I ended up buying a USB fan to blow air on it and keep the temps in the 30s. There are a number of styles for this type cooler. I went with the ' AC Infinity MULTIFAN S4, Quiet 140mm USB Fan'. That one I got from a vendor named for the big river in South America...which conveniently has a website. 2) a backup is not a backup unless it's available when you need it. Keep this attached 24/7 to your computer won't do a lick of good when the fire, tornado, or godzilla rips through the house. Get your backups offsite. If you're doing frequent writes, buy a second and cycle them at regular intervals. Please search and read up on "3-2-1 backup strategy", and try to employ it. 3) There's not really any cushion in the enclosure. Should it take a tumble, consider the unit gone. The controller inside is kinda fragile too and I've had a few fail without the tumble. Sometimes the drives inside are still good, but sometimes not. It wouldn't be a bad idea to buy these in pairs and mirror them, that way in case one dies you still have the data. Of course, you're not really storing unique data here, right? right? Wait until these go on sale and pick them up then. Happens every couple months, with largest savings always at Black Friday. Use a site like shucks.top to monitor prices and purchase when the prices are best in your favor. Lastly, when picking up the purchase, first thing to do is check over the box and scan for any signs of tampering. You want to be sure you've gotten a new product and not something returned. You deserve that full 14TB drive you paid for. You can use a free tool like CrystalDiskInfo to quickly check whether the drive you received is the one you purchased. I've used both the pickup in-store and the locker pickup arrangements. Have not had an issue with either. They'll ask your ID if doing the in-store pickup, and will require scanning or entering a code if doing the locker. The same-day locker pickup might be more useful if you can only get to the store outside operating hours. These have been really good drives to me, and I hope they will be for you too. I deduct one star due to the lack of cooling and drop protection, but I guess if they added that the price would no longer be so economical.

WD might have some quality issue. I bought a total of 4 units on sale at different times. The first 2 units I bought one of them was not recognized by my computer at all so I brought it back the next day. BB had no problem replacing the unit at all. For the high capacity and what I was using it for, to back up my files, I ran HDDScan to test each disks before putting them into actual use. It took a little more than 10 days to run a complete test. All 4 drives passed the tests with no problem. Not the same for my brother-in-law though. I recommended the same 14TB drive for him to backup his family photos and videos. One of his drives ended up with a lot of errors, basically a defective drive. So he brought it back to BB and asking for a replacement. The staff refused to give him a replacement and insisted to only give him a refund and he had to make another purchase with the than non-sale price. This is definitely a SHAME ON YOU to both WD and BB! For WD - the quality is definitely an issue. 2 out of the 7 drives were bad! For BB, this is a replacement, NOT a refund! This is a bad rep for the BB customer service! I felt bad in making the recommendation to my brother-in-law that ended up in such bad customer service BB. Do you think I would recommend BB and WD to my other friends and family?

A mysterious object, its sides extend in the precise ratio of 1 : 4 : 9. Getting closer to it created an understanding in me that was…extraordinary, as if my mind had evolved 1000 percent. I felt as though I had been on…an odyssey. Oh wait, it’s an external hard drive with an immense capacity. Especially for the price.

So far I like it, but it does make some different sounds that I heard and wasn't sure what it was. It is the hard drive starting up when I login to my computer. So far it works great and seems to be plenty fast for what I am doing. I may move it to the other side of my tower to hopefully cut down some of the noise it makes. It isn't loud, but a noise that I hear. Some people may not even notice it.

Great hard drive for the price. Used the 15% HDD recycle program to lower the price even more. speed is around 200MB/s. The drives does get a little loud at startup (self check I'm assuming) but acts normally afterward. Overall, great backup drive.

I got this for ~$200 on sale and ripped it apart and threw the white label drive into my computer. Cheaper than buying a non-enclosed red drive and not difficult. You might still need a jumper pin for these for that to work but I just use the sata-pwr to molex adapters instead.

I have used these as intended as external drives for years without problems with multiple sizes. However, like many I also have shucked these for a decent deal on a new large format drive. Know that you are voiding the warranty if using as an internal drive, but for some use cases it is worth it. These 14TB drives were picked up on sale and are much cheaper than an equivalent internal unit. After a quick removal they install as a standard SATA drive and format easily.

Was so glad to purchase this WD easystore external hard drive for a near bargain price. This was something I could not pass up. There is so much hard drive space, I could split it up 3 ways to back up my desktop and laptop along with my mom’s laptop, or even clone one of these PCs if I wanted to.

Massive hard drive storage at a great price. Bought this 14Tb version for $189.99 during Black Friday as a master backup for all my cell photos and videos and older scanned photos. Not sure even this one will hold them all. All of my drives have been WD, have never had an issues with them. Bought at least 15- 20 over the last 30yrs. With the advent of lower price and increased storage capacities, why not.

I was running out of storage space on my desktop. I had already added a 4TB internal drive, and already had an external eSATA drive (2TB). I was discounting using a USB drive verses an eSATA considering the 6Gbps of eSATA and wondering if that was the right move. I did the research, weighed the options, but ultimately the price prevailed, as at least I would have the storage space. Now that I have it, I can say that there is no question to go this route. It has performed flawlessly, for one. The CPU load accessing the USB seems to be less than with the eSATA, so the performance seems to be less intrusive. Also the real-world usage appears to be faster. I am using the drive to stream video to my Oculus Quest 2 via Link (USB) and have had no issues. If you have USB 3.x I would highly recommend this for a storage solution. I have not yet found a down-side. As an aside, this was a b-day present to myself (actually purchased *on* my b-day) :-)

Great external hard drive with massive storage of 14TB, I already had 3TB WD Mycloud I plugged it to it as USB backup and I can access all info online on both devices use it as back up as well very convenient i wasnt sure if it was going to work but it did it made the money both storage combined is 17TB since do photography i can use it as back for client pictures. I hope it last. WD is a great brand I have the other old mycloud and I have it for 7 years no issues so far, hope this one will last too. Great price, I regret not buying it for black Friday for $199.00 but I got it for $217.00 was still a great price better then amazon or other stores. Speed is good if you plug it with computer but not the best, very happy so far.

I have over 100TB worth of WD drives in my media server. WD has been the most reliable of the spinning disk hard drives I've used over the last 20+ years in PC builds. These drives pop out of their casing and you can use them as desktop drives, as long as your power supply doesn't send 3.3V to the SATA power connector, but it's a quick fix if it does. They are white-labeled WD RED drives. If you happened to need a warranty replacement through WD, look up the "1975 Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act" before filling. Good luck and shucc!
