This is a great drive that has given me exactly what I was looking for: plug and play easy with a dash of storing my files the way I want to. Look, having a home media cloud drive thingy is great and all, but I wanted an external drive that I can store all of my personal files on and access from my work computer when I need to. I wanted storage that looks and feels the same as storing it on my computer hard drive. I get that with this drive. You can set it up as a backup to your computer as well, but that's not how I use mine. Simple file storage for someone who moves between home office and office location 2-3 times per week. Small and mobile, easy setup, and standard operation. Just what I wanted at at great price! Thank you!

With the holidays coming around, my nephew needed something to take to college next year. This hard drive will get him started. It's small design makes it not take up much space when laying next to a laptop. For now, the 1TB should hold all his music and any pictures during his first year at college. No need to get into all the technical details, as my experience with WD's have been positive over the past 20+ years in the computer realm. I've used many Western Digital hard drives in custom built pc's - so having this one on sale for half price (from 99 dropped to 49) was a great buy. You could get a much larger hard drive - but until you find you have way more stuff than would fit on a 1TB, try filling up a 1TB :)

Seems very slow to backup 258GB

I wasn't really impressed with this harddrive. First time plugging it in it does not bring up any instructions or install any software or do anything so you need to go through the directories and find the provided backup software (and install it) if you are not using windows to backup your machine...not hard but not as easy as my last backup drive which brought the software right up and stepped you through questions on how you wanted to us it. Next it took about 24 hours to backup 258 GB of data. Seems very slow. My older backup drive (5-7 years old) is much faster to my knowledge. So the drive seems to serve its purpose but did not impress me.

    Hard to Format for Mac

I have a Mac and I had to go to Geek Squad to get the external hard drive formatted so I could use it. You can't just plug it in and use it, there are several steps and they are confusing and I'm knowledgeable of my Macbook. I don't like that I can't create folders on this storage device so everything is laid out in alphabetical order. I would prefer folders so I could put pictures in one folder, documents in another. There's no way to organize the hard drive. I bought the hard drive when it was on sale for $49.99 and I had a $10 off bonus coupon so it was worth it. I also bought the warranty because some reviews said the hard drive stopped working months after purchase.

I connected the brand new drive to my MacBook Pro, it prompted the "time machine" wizard to connect to and set up the drive. I pressed yes, (to the prompt, 'use this drive for back up", then on the next menu, all I entered was the name of the new drive and enter. Then the comp went to go through the set up process, only to stop shortly after starting the process, and giving me an error message that the drive was all of a sudden unreadable, full, and corrupted. Its totally locked up and unusable. terrible experience w/ this product. Im contacting WD to ask for help to fix it, but will most likely return it and get a better version.

Western Digital is a scam company. I only have had the drive for less than a year and right now, it will not read on my Mac. Yes, Western Digital offered to replace it, but as for my data (over 400 GB on the drive), they recommended some data recovery companies, the cheapest of which was $200! This is the only way they help you recover data, recommending companies that supposedly give you a 10% discount and 10% of $200 is barely any type of discount. Do not use any Western Digital product because if it fails, they will send you to companies that scam you out of your money and Western Digital probably receives some type of kickback. I wish I could have given this product 0 stars.

    Price was good for 1TB

On sale - the price for 1 TB is great. I kept running out of space with my old drove which was much smaller. I didn't have any problems connecting this to a Windows 7 desktop. But the backup software won't seem to run on a schedule - it always says last backup was "missed" when I check it. I can run the backup manually just fine - however I wanted to set and forget. I don't know if it can't wake the computer from sleep or what. But seriously - who leaves a desktop running 24 by 7 without letting it sleep? I have gone into device manager and ensured the USB device adapter settings for power management are unchecked. I don't know what else to do - may be try the native Windows 7 backup instead of the WD backup software that came with it?

I picked this up on a good sale just to use as a backup to my backup. It's pretty incredible how small and convenient these external hard drives have gotten over the years. I want to say my first backup was the size of a 68 Buick but now I can just pop one of these puppies in a thimble and store it in my sewing kit. If you need the extra space I say you should def scoop one of these on sale. If you don't need the extra space but just want a cool little hard drive that can wear a thimble like a hat then you should def scoop one up.

I needed a backup drive ASAP so I ran to Best Buy and picked this off the shelf. I had to back up my Dad's Windows 10 machine, including creating a system image. It connected and performed quickly and beautifully. Then I plugged in into my Mac Book Pro to check my files and it read everything seamlessly. When my Dad's Laptop came back from repair, I was able to restore the machine using the system image on this drive.

WD Online Technical Support Not Available

Well this was a complete failure on my part when I purchased this three days ago. I like everything about this external hard drive from WD except for one thing and one thing only. This WD external hard drive cannot be used for product registration on the WD Technical Support website. I was already going to return this anyway because it's also not compatible with My Cloud. Absolutely terrible. I do not recommend that you buy this. You've lost as soon as you open the box and then realize no online technical support. Case closed.

I have trusted the western digital brand for many things such as replacing my ps3 and ps4 internal hard drives. I have also used their external hard drives for my wii u as well and so far their products haven't caused me any problems. I turned to them once again for an external hard drive for my ps4's internal hard drive was filling up pretty quickly. It was an easy format and install. In record time, I was off downloading and playing games flawlessly. I would definitely recommend this brand of external hard drive for gamers or even non gamers who need that extra space for their clogged up devices.

This is a great little portable drive simply styled and glossy black in color but the one thing to be aware of is this easystore line of drives is NOT compatible with WD's Smartware backup software but it does work with WD's more basic included backup software. As with most USB products it is an easy plug and play drive for Windows (Windows 10 in my case) using a standard USB port (3.0 preferred) and WD has some nice software for managing all their drives and integrates nicely with their software. Mainly will use WD portable drive for file backups and worth noting I already run other WD drives in my system.

My HP desktop had a catastrophic hard drive failure and the backup hard drive I'd been using with it for a while failed to back up my data properly. So, I decided to purchase this WD easystore 1TB drive at my local Best Buy. It was on sale and a good price with a Rewards discount, so I went with it. The set up was quite easy and the software has been quite inobtrusive (unlike the other one, which was always bugging me with updates and reminders). I set it up to backup my system once a week and haven't had any issues so far.

    Great Back Up Protection

I purchased this external hard drive as a protection against hacking. It is small in physical size, about the size of a deck of cards. Yet it has tremendous capacity at 1TB memory. I copied my computer's entire hard drive onto this drive, and will keep it separate, safe, and detached from my computer. If hackers ever hold my computer hard drive hostage for ransom, I can toss my computer, and resort to my back up hard drive. Any payment to these criminals just rewards their preying on other innocent victims. So... thank you Best by for having this hard drive on a one-day sale for less than $45!

Bought this HD as part of the Best Buy deal of the day. I checked around the internet and couldn't find a lower price. The drive came the day it was promised on the web site. It wasn't available at the closest BB, so I had it delivered, which was free. The drive is smaller than I expected (didn't see it at the store. only looked at it online). Everything worked as it should, speed is decent. Use it for my Mac and I screwed it up with formatting at the beginning, but went to Windows VM and did a quick format and everything was good to go as an external HD. Backup my files on my Mac. All is good

The Good The WD Elements Portable drive offers a large amount of storage space for a low cost. Its simple design allows it to work well with computers, game consoles and other type of hosts. The Bad You have to pay extra to use its included backup software after the introductory 30-day trial. The drive has no security features and carries a short warranty of just one year. The Bottom Line Though not the fastest on the market, the WD Elements' large capacity makes it an excellent deal considering its low price.

Purchased this for my nephew so can only give partial 2nd hand experience. When we connected it, it auto detected and we set it up as storage for games. No issues installing to it and playing from it, not heard anything bad from nephew so far, but its only been a day or two to be honest. Got it while it was on sale with the early black friday deals on website so I was lucky with the timing :) Do recommend for anyone need xbox one storage space. I got the 1TB drive, but I assume the larger versions work as well.

I say so far because longetivity will tell. I have WD My Cloud 3TB that I use as back-up and additional storage for movies for a few years now and have had no problems. Buying this portable drive I expect the same performance. I am using it with my Microsoft Surfacebook, 1st Generation, as a hard drive to go with the SSD in it, connected to one USB port. No set-up necessary just PnP. I even save compatable Steam games on it and play without a problem.

Recommended by agent in the store. Previous external storage just stopped working (10 yrs old). Needed external backup of my files. While being easy to set up, it was a little confusing as to how to disconnect the old drive and connect the new drive. As well, was given way too many choices as to what to backup (not a hi-tech guru)............thus kept getting an error message "that not all files were backed up". This is when I learned about UPPS.BIN and found out how to disconnect. Why have so many choices for a non-techy guru?

I used this hard drive to move my 20,000 screenshots from my computer. When I did move my photos it relocated or deleted my camera upload file (which had nothing to do with my screenshots) Best Buy would not take responsibility for this and said that Windows did it on it's own LOL I don't think so!! Needless to say I am very disappointed with this product and have to find another way to view my camera photos.
