I purchased this Western Digital hard drive from BestBuy last week on 11/20/2021. I still have not been able to get it to work correctly. The drive runs hot, and clicks loudly when plugged in to the USB port. My computer does see the drive, and attempts to transfer- but nothing gets saved- just the clicking noise happens. I normally have excellent luck with WD brands, so this is new to me. See photo for you tube video:

Sometimes you have to unplug and plug it back up for it to load. Besides that works fine.

I use this external drive for my Xbox One X. It's perfect. No issues. I have another external WD and thought I'd continue with the brand. So far I don't regret this purchase. I'm going to purchase again for my external laptop. It's quiet. My other old WD is big and I am not able to travel with it. This is just the right size to slip into a pocket.

Black Friday Sale Item at a great price . do not put two drives on the same computer on the same usb3.0 pcie card slot they did not work well in this manner. I am not sure if the pcie card is to weak for the two drives at the same time .. If you put one on the motherboard usb3.0 slot and one on the pcie card it works fine .. just know its a power hog .

I have never had a portable harddrive not be recognized in other computers. But it happened today as I am away from home and on a different computer. I have many files on this drive I need and it is not recognized by my laptop or my son's desktop. I am worried. I have sent an inquiry to WD I do not want to lose these files! No reformatting. So I will update this review. I bought the unit in October. Used it. Saw the files. I have never had this happen before and I have many external hard drives of several brands.i am very much hoping it's somehow configured to the home computer and still works with that one. I will choose yes to recommend assuming it still works. Otherwise I'll change my review.

Well, it’s a hard drive so unless something gets corrupted it seems to be working great. It’s very small and yet it’s 5 TB. I purchased it on Black Friday so instead of being $169 it was $89 which I was very excited about.

When it was working, for the month it was working, it was working. The cord was secure and didn't easily disconnect unlike some other external drives I've had. But after awhile it became harder for my computer(Macbook pro) to register. I also tried plugging it into my windows computer and no luck either. The light would come on and the disk would spin but western digital would say there was no usb attached, while WD drive utility would read it but there would be no volumes found on the drive despite having 1.5TB of info placed on the drive and attempting to run test on the drive failed. I'd say you're better off going for one of the bulkier drives that aren't portable. For those drives you'd be able to take them out of their casing a pop them in an external drive reader at least, this one you're kind of completely out of luck. I ordered it June 24nd and yesterday on July 21st it stopped being able to be read. It seems to already be bricked.

A few years back purchased a 1TB WD external hard drive... which is twice the size of this one. Happy to replace that old drive with this one, the size of this new 5TB hard drive meets my personal needs for home use, would recommend, no problems with product so far.

I have been using the WD Easystore 5TB external hard drive for several months now and it has exceeded my expectations. The 5 terabyte capacity gives me ample space to back up my entire collection of documents, photos, videos, and even some software files without worrying about running out of storage anytime soon. It’s been especially helpful for organizing my media library and freeing up space on my computer’s internal drive. The setup process was incredibly straightforward. It is truly plug and play on my Windows 10 PC — I simply connected it via the USB 3.2 Gen 1 port and it was recognized instantly without needing any additional drivers or software. The data transfer speeds have been fast and consistent, allowing me to move large files quickly and efficiently, which has saved me a lot of time. The physical design of the drive is compact and lightweight, which makes it easy to carry when I need to transport files between home and work. Despite its portability, it feels sturdy and well built, giving me confidence that it can handle being moved around without damage. The black finish looks sleek and professional, so it fits right in on my desk setup. In terms of performance, the drive has been rock solid. I have not experienced any unexpected disconnections, lag, or data corruption. It handles everyday backups, large file transfers, and continuous use without any hiccups. The included two year warranty adds extra peace of mind knowing that Western Digital stands behind their product. While SSDs offer faster speeds, this HDD provides excellent value with a much larger capacity at an affordable price point. It’s ideal for anyone looking for a reliable external storage solution that doesn’t compromise on space or ease of use. Overall, I highly recommend the WD Easystore 5TB external hard drive. It delivers excellent performance, plenty of storage, and hassle-free setup. Whether you need extra storage for backups, media, or work files, this drive is a dependable choice that won’t disappoint.
