I got 2 of these at the same time and I only just started using 1 of them. The problem is it keeps randomly disconnecting and connecting. I'm past my return time on these. I tried using other USB cables that I have for other external enclosure and still the same thing. I ran hard drive tests and between the disconnects everything seems to be fine. UNFOURNTALLY these are NOT SATA drives within an enclosure. They are USB built right onto the drive so there's no easy fix for this if there is one at all. I will ALWAYS check to see if a drive has a SATA connection now. I would not buy this ever again. Going to go test the second one now and HOPE it doesn't have the same issue.

Very fast and easy to install on any device. My only problem was I wish it was USB -C.

Deceptive advertising. The box says "5T", what you actually get is, 4.54TB (see pic). That's almost 500GB less than advertised.

HDD failed with "Reallocated Sector Count" warning after 15 months from purchase. HDD was only used for storage and game installs.

Worst product. Does not recognize on my MacBook. Almost lost my 1 TB data Always get scanning and repair issues. Don’t buy this.

Have owned many WD drives over the years - and the vast majority have been very reliable. Have had this one for only a month - but it’s been used quite a lot in that short time and so far, seems just as reliable. There is a slight vibration and very slight humming sound from the drive - but it’s barely noticeable. The data transfer rate is about what you’d expect from USB 3.0 - which is more than adequate. At about 4.25 x 3.25 x 0.75 inches - it’s a small package for having a 5 TB capacity - so you expect some heat generation and retention - and there is some - but it only gets a bit warm - not hot - and seems to stay at a reasonable, manageable level. So far, very pleased with the drive. Would recommend buying if you need more than 4 TB of portable storage - and at a great price.

Large capacity for storage for the price. Easy to use. Con: Doesn't last very long. Have used 2 years. Less than 2T of space used. The drive no longer mounts on many machines anymore. No updated drivers to use. The drive connects and operates but my system doesn't see it. Huge inconvenience. This is the 3rd drive purchased.

Great Product! I bought this for myself a few years ago for my personal files, and it hasn't fallen short of my expectations. I can connect and disconnect this drive at anytime. This product worked so well for me, I bought 2 more for my wife for her job and for my daughter for college.

So far, this hard drive works quite well! I am someone with a significant collection of video files on his computer, and so my internal drive space was filling up, and I needed this external drive to move the large files to. It took some time to transfer over, however that's to be expected, and it's still pretty fast seeing as how large a transfer I was making. It's also impressive to me how compact of a hard drive can store five terabytes nowadays. Perhaps a small, noticeable humming noise as one makes a large transfer, coming from the hard drive's processor, once again, to be expected, of course. It does probably get a bit warm with high usage as well, which is natural, and I don't think it gets warm to any degree that is worrying, however I don't sit there holding it in my hand or anything, so I can't be totally sure. I think I even used it to process video files out of a video editing program, so it's good not just for storage but for actively processing the work that you do as well, at least in small doses. Honestly, I haven't used the hard drive too much, after all, it's a hard drive, but it does well at being a hard drive.

The storage device is much quicker to access than thumb drives and holds hundreds of files more than a collection of thumb drives that I have owned for years! Compact and easy to store in my gig bag. I find it to be a very reliable device with accurate search features when I am trying to find a specific file. It also allows me to save terabytes of valuable storage space on my computer. The form factor is very small considering how its packing in 5GB of storage. Comes with the USB3 cable and back up software. Highly recommended for backing up the entire laptop's harddrive and space for so much more. It doesn't make much noise and connects almost instantly once plugged in to the laptop

Good portable storage that is plug and play on a PC. I have had for a few months and no issues. I use it to backup my photos and videos to clear up space on my computer. If you can catch it on sale as the deal of the day, it is a great value!

5tb storage from WD does the job well with my Mac Mini from 2015. Simply plugs in, you format it, which isn't any where near as scary as it sounds, and you're ready to go with your storage. Had to get this storage solution because an old external drive failed. That said, any external storage solution can fail at any time for seemingly no reason at all. In my case, it was also another WD drive from around 2016, but I've also owned a few other drives from WD with better success in the past, each varying in size. This one works great, and the matte black looks clean and minimal on my table.

5TB provides a great deal of storage, or a great repository for working on large files such as intermediate video production. Convenient for travel. Best to write and read, not necessarily to modify. Solid state has a limited number of R/W before failure. Great as a backup for your computers, but you will still have to reinstall software if your computer crashes. Don't lose those irreplaceable photos!

Computer problems made me discover WD - Easystore 5TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - Black. I used this external drive for my photos and files backup. It's a perfect buy and easy to use. No issues and good as an addition to my other 10 TB external WD Easystore too. So far I don't regret this purchase and easystore is a good brand. This is quiet, lighter and a smaller version to the 10 TB. My other old WD is big, I am not able to travel with it, and has a lot of wires. I have always had to look for an extra power source but not for WD - Easystore 5TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - Black. This is just the right size to slip into a pocket or bag. Easystore 5TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - Black is the way to go.
