For nearly 2 decades, I've gone with nothing else than Western Digital drives. They've been reliable, fast, and well made. And this one is no different. The price was great, and for 8Tb, you don't have to worry about running out of storage space. Installation was incredibly easy....just plug into your electrical outlet and plug into an open USB port. Drive gets instantly recognized by the computer. Loved this drive so much, that I bought 2 at this price. And I'm confident enough with these that my computer backup will be going on these.

8TB seems like much but in this day in age if you're a gamer you already know we are headed toward an all digital future. My 5TB broke and needed a replacement fast! It's on sale now at a great price and you know it's made by a trusted company. Looks perfect sitting beside my Xbox One S.

easy to setup, (plug and play) , very fast and is nearly silent to operate, 8 TB size is awesome, and price was very affordable. Looking forward to purchasing several more in the near future. I would highly recommend it to good friends, and even to some not-so-good family.

Incredible Storage Device for Low Price

I was hesitant about the price whenever I was looking into upgrading my external drive. I was using a 4TB WD Green for quite sometime as my gaming library. Well, as the year or so went on, that library became increasingly larger and to the point that even 4TB weren't enough. I found this beauty, and, while hesitant at first, I saw all the reviews talking about how secure these devices typically are from failures. Now, normally I don't review without having some more time with devices, but already things have much improved since I switched that I had to say something about it. Data transfer is significantly faster. Games load quicker and Steam updates to the games seem to happen faster. Not to mention I now have plenty more space to continue expanding my digital library. I believe, when the time is right (and when money is not an issue) I'll purchase another one, just for safe measure.

Great 8TB HDD for the price

I bought this prior to the Chia SSD/HDD explosion in May 2021. It's super simple to use, and provides sufficient space. It took me a little while to get use to the mechanical sounds of the hard drive again as I've been SSD exclusive for the past few years, but it's not annoying, just present. It's too early to tell whether this drive will survive for five years, but here's to hoping! If you need extra space this may be a viable option for you. The prices are getting crazy now (I purchased this for $138 back in April 2021). If you need space I would honestly hold off until the demand/supply stabilizes. Hopefully this doesn't turn into another GPU crisis.

If you're looking for a large reliable external drive, this is it. I have a few of them already, but needed more storage. I definitely recommend it, especially when you're on a budget.

Trust the name. Got this for a back-up for my back-up. Can't add too much to the specs and product description, easy to use, not ugly on the desk and good value.

This works really well. I read something about shucking them, but I don't see how that's necessary, if they're in a cool a/c room. They do exactly, what they claim to do. It's great to save video games, that don't fit on the standard internal memory of your console. You can transfer them, in and out, as you please. Great addition to our family XBOX console.

    Excellent for Xbox One X

I recently upgraded to an Xbox One X and this hard drive is the perfect complement. It's basically plug and play, the Xbox formatted it in about a minute. I wish it didn't require an AC adapter, that's one less plug on the surge protector but at the end of the day you aren't getting an 8 TB external without one. Trust me, you're going to want 8 TB if you have a One X. Also I'll note in a perfectly quite room I can sometimes hear the hard drive because I have my Xbox set to update in the background (Instant On). In contrast I've never heard one of my WD Passports in the same environment. At the end of the day this is your best bet for an 8 TB external and Best Buy runs sales regularly on it. I would buy it again.

In WD, only 8TB drives are red. So inside this unit, it can only be a red NAS drive - high quality drive. At low 160 price tag, I bought two and placed it in NAS and run RAID 1 for more than a month - no issue.

Bought this for my PS5 and it's been working great! Keep in mind that the light will not come on unless it is plugged into the back. Don't fret if it doesn't start as soon as you plug in the power cord. The issue is the PS5 needing updates to fix the corrupt database issues with external hard drives. I haven't lost any data yet, but have left it unplugged for the time being. If you're thinking about getting it, go ahead if it's on sale. You won't regret it!

I own more than 12 of these. I typically get the WD My Book model but the store was out. Thus far, no problems. I have long been impressed with their reliability. I also feel the price/value is fair. I'm sure that when this one gets full I'll be getting another.

Works Great For Backing Up Our Studio Projects

Power glitches from our local LA utility company meant our video/audio studio kept losing hard drives (and occasionally entire computers). While we have a vast collection of pro-grade external drives, these 8G WDs are inexpensive, work well, and are an excellent way to back up data when you're really in a bind.

    Excellent External Hard Drive

This drive is big (8TB) and fast. I'm getting 200+ MB/s transfer rates (verified by timing large file transfers as well as benchmark utilities like Crystal DriveMark). I'm extremely happy with the performance. Prior to getting this drive, I had tried a Seagate Backup Plus Hub 8TB, which was slow (often sub 100 MB/s) and inconsistent (maybe 130 MB/s one time, then 90 the next, then 150, then 70), which I returned and got the Western Digital Easystore instead. The Western Digital was $30 more expensive, but it's worth it because it performs so much better. I've seen some reviews saying that it is loud. I have not found that to be the case at all.

Great drive to shuck and use as internal storage

Great deal given the capacity. The price per GB is unmatched in the current desktop hard drive market. After shucking the drive out of its enclosure, I found that it is a Western Digital WD80EDAZ (mostly rebranded western digital Red). It's a reliable drive, but is obviously slow given it is 5400rpm, and it does get hot under continuous throughput. If you plan on doing what I am doing, which is using it as an internal storage in a desktop, make sure to have a fan blowing intake air somewhere close by, otherwise it could overheat.
