There is no indicator light to show machine is on. Directions for operation are skimpy. In very small print, user is told the progress of the back up session. I finally figured it out, but it was frustrating.

The WD My Book 4TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive is perfect for use as a secondary hard drive for PC and Mac. I’m using it for both my PC and my MacBook Pro for backups and accessing files. It’s size and portability is ideal for multiple use purposes.

I have had no problems with my hard drive. I use it with my PS4. I have transferred my games to and from the hd. It doesn't produce any noticeable noise. Also, I have played games directly from the hard drive with no slowdown.

So far, the drive has performed without a hitch. Read and write performance seems to be fast in real world usage — no tests done though — and unlike my older Toshiba 1gb external drive, it doesn't take a long time to resume from inactivity. Only had for a couple months, but very satisfied to this point.

Use with the USB port of a router directly (if exists), or directly connected to a computer, with or without encryption - lot of versatility. Did not encounter any issue related to expected functionality. Will buy the same again if need be.

I purchased this for my Xbox one and it works great.

Does a great job . Had some of my friends buy it to.

This is the 3rd WD My Book storage unit I’ve bought for personal use. Western Digital produces a quality product that is consistent in its operation. I know what I’m getting with this product and they deliver what I want every time.

Seems to do the job, but they are LOUD! That is our only complaint. We purchased 2, one for each of our computers. Fairly easy to set up, but yes...Loud. Always making grinding machine noises so that is annoying.

Set up was fast. Has a lot of memory for the price.

Have used My Book in the past with great results .

It's great & serves its purpose for gaming storage

I had some problems getting it to connect to my Mac at first. It took quite a bit of reformatting for it to work. However, after the initial problem, it's working great. I'm using this for backing up personal files like documents, photos, videos.

Works great for Time Machine backups for my Mac. Some reviews said it was loud, but I don’t think it’s any louder than any of the previous external drives I’ve owned.

The unit I picked up from the (Sugar Land) store was apparently defective, & it was the last one. The next day I went to the Beechnut store & got a replacement. As with all the previous units I've purchased there's been no problems.

I bought this storage device for my Xbox One and have had absolutely no issues with it. The USB 3.0 speed is extremely fast and the large storage size allows me to store PLENTY of games. I would definitely recommend it!

I purchased to use as a backup drive for my NAS. Just plugged it in and it does the job. Nothing really to set up on this drive. My backups complete much faster than with my previous device (older WD external drive).

Although these are bigger than the smaller ones that don't require to be plugged in I think is still a use for these because unlike the smaller external hard drives that just plug into your computer these don't slow down the computer because their power source comes from a plug instead of the computer.

My old My Book finally crashed after Many years of constant service! Always there until the end! This My Book is even better as this one is MUCH FASTER!! Backed up all my media, I have a lot, in no time!!

The drive works well and is very quiet. Just make sure you give it plenty of ventilation. It’s black and sleek design makes it easy to place anywhere.
