Ended up getting 2 of these on sale about $90 each. Can't beat the price, WD storage is always great, and these were super easy to plug and play!

I use cloud storage a lot now, but I still wanted something I could use for media files that I could use at work and at home, and provide an additional layer of backup. Not only does this have a lot of storage, but this thing is fast! I actually installed a couple of programs on it, just to try it out and they ran perfectly fine! This is exactly what I needed!

This 4T storage seems to work fine, it's fast and a good way to set aside many many gigabytes of our precious pictures. It doesn't hold a full 4 terabytes, closer to 3.5, but by the time we fill this up, we will be due for a new one anyway. It was a reasonably priced unit.. I have used several other storage devices, so when I saw there were no instructions packaged with it, I simply plugged it in and used it like any of the other auxiliary drives I had before, copying and pasting/transferring only the files I wanted to save, rather than using it like a full back up of my computer like some other units did. I rated it down to 4 stars, only due to the fact no directions came with, otherwise, it seems pretty solid, quiet and efficient.

Western Digital external drives are the standard for external drive storage out there today. They can work without issue for years and you rarely hear people complaining about their longevity. This is the 4GB model, perfect for the on the go student or mobile professional. It has a ton of space for projects, graphics, and general file storage. It can also be used for PS4 and XBox Consoles, allowing a person to storage more games locally and save bandwidth rather than downloading them over and over.

I have tried a number of brands of external drives and I've had the best luck with WD drives for reliability, speed and ease of use. IMO, price is irrelevant of the drives fail often/early. They cost a bit more but I've had my best luck is with drives with 3 year warranty. So far this drive meets my expectations. I have 6 drives in use and seem to swap out 1 or two each year. Mostly because I need larger capacities. But regardless at 3 years I retire a drive. There are 2 types of drives, those that have failed and those that have yet to fail.

I basically bought this for my XBOX One. It was easy to connect. It came with a niiiiiiiice looking box. Nice in other words. I don't wanna throw the box away because of that. I've loaded 20 games on it already, easy. And I haven't put a dent in the storage use. I don't play video games very much but the little time I've played games on this hard drive. I haven't seen any lagging. And to top it off. This hard drive matches and looks cute with the XBOX One. It is like This WD Hard Drive and a XBOX One are meant to be together.

This is for the 4gb model. It took almost exactly three days to format. I do this with all new drives as a burn-in test. I've been using this to store data, clearing out my cds and dvds. It's great to reduce the clutter of over 300,000 disks. I can get around eight 100ct spools for dvds. I believe I only used one 4gb for all the cds, dating back to the early 1990s. I've given it a pretty good workout. Not as good as my internal drives, but I'll have up to two or three threads copying to it simultaneously. The pc I'm using is well over 10 years old, so a speed rating is gauged on USB 2.0. The laptop has Windows 10 and moves data quicker that the desktop with Windows 7. This is basically due to the way explorer manages data. If you remember (or still using) Windows 7 explorer, you know it constantly updates the current directory repeatedly, causing delays or "not responding." With a terabyte data drive, I usually fill it near capacity, the migrate from it to the My Book. I usually try to migrate data, then power off and remove it. There have been times, like the formatting, where it's been used for quite a few days. No real heat issues. This is in a room that needs not heating in the winter. How hot? The rubber feet on the pc I'm using melted to the desk at some point. The only caveat I've had (and this is on the windows 7 pc), during transfers it seems to move data then stall for some seconds at the end of the file. It's not a long time, but it makes me wonder is something going wrong during this time. Overall, I've been quite pleased with this drive and with all the WD drives I've purchased. It's early days for this cd/dvd to HD storage project and with over 300,000 disk, I've filled about ten different drives, so far. 4tb has been the sticking point for size and I think I have at least one from each model WD makes. I haven't opened the drive, so I don't know what model is inside and if it uses SMR or not.

Bought this as an expansion for my 1TB PS4 Pro. After years of having to install/uninstall games with the small factory hard drive, I decided it was time to upgrade.. I couldn't be happier! Super simple plug and play, once connected the console asks you to format and install software to start storage, which does bring it down to 3.62GB (or so), which is still more than enough if you have a library of 30+ games.

We purchased this to store photos. Needed to clear out about 50 GBs of photos and videos from our clouds and computer, and still have room to add plenty more. This offers 4 terabytes, so obviously plenty for our needs for a while. This was one of the cheaper priced ones 4TB external drives we found. So far it's been great. No issues but we solely use it for archiving photos. We have not saved any software on it.

    Significant/Dependable Upgrade to Storage

Western Digital is a very trustworthy source. You can't go wrong with them especially when buying an external HDD. I needed something to upgrade my mediocre 500GB of storage on my XBOX ONE. This external drive is easy plug and play with the XBOX ONE. It uses an external power cord, but the setup is super easy. I started prioritizing my XBOX ONE to save all new video game installs to the new external HDD rather than the internal one. Whether you need it for desktop, laptop, or video game storage; this is a must buy.

I got this external drive for my xbox1 for extra storage and it couldn't have been easier to set up! Pluged USB 3.0 cable into Xbox1, powered on console and then plugged in power cord for hard drive. Xbox recognized it, formatted it, asked if i wanted it for default storage, i said yes, and just like that over 3x the orignal space i had before and i can still use console internal drive as well. It even looks like part of the console per designs. No issues and great warranty. If your Xbox1 is low on space get this!
