I've trusted Western Digital for a long time now for my hard drives and they are still my go to for backing up all my photos and videos from my photography business. This drive packs a lot of storage and is crazy affordable. Plus, the USB 3.0 is really fast!

I ran out of space in my 4tb My Book. The quality has been good on other similar drives. My only complaint about this drive is that the bigger drive required more effort to run. When the drive spins up to speed my desk feels like my phone is vibrating in it.

Great hard drive, lots of storage! This was the perfect edition to my new laptop to allow me to store GB’s of data from my music studio.

Excellent back up storage space for photos and fast also. Bought this to store sport photos I take, downloads and uploads quick and lots of storage for tons of photos.

8TB ought to be more than enough to back up all my photos, videos, and other important files! I'm not much of a computer person, especially when it comes to hardware. I was afraid there'd be some intimidating setup, but this drive disappointed me in that expectation. I plugged it in and immediately saw a file pre-installed on the drive with a name that told me to click it. One quick update later and I'm in business!

Theres a lot of space on this thing. I cannot imagine going through 8TB in such little time. The hard drive is pretty quick and does exactly what i need it do!

Great storage capacity for videos and any other media you will need. If you connect this to an older computer or one with a lesser hard drive size, keep it disconnected until you need to access it. I don't know about other brands, but on older HP CPUs running Windows 10, it will try to connect to this device first which has no operating system.

Amazed at how small the newer hard drives are, this has a great amount of space although available capacity is 7.2TB. The drive is quiet other than an occasional annoying think sound that comes from the drive while it idling and loading

Very easy to setup; enough storage for a lifetime; looks great; and very small so it does not take up alot of room. Highly recommend this purchase.

This is a good drive and serves my purpose as a simple, large backup drive for my iMac desktop. I had a 3TB external drive that was getting full so wanted to upgrade to a larger one. I moved my old backups to this 8TB drive and still have plenty of space to keep going. I understand some people don't like the lack of lights, power switch and odd data connector, but those items don't bother me as I don't plan on turning it off, moving it, or closely monitoring data read/write. My only complaint is that it is noisier than my old drive and I can feel the slight hum/spin through my desk. Not horrible but I definitely notice it compared to my old drive. For the price it is a great upgrade from a smaller external HDD.

I have 2 of these for back and alternate backups between them. I really like the encryption feature that is already built into the drive. All you have to do is enable it and assign a password. You do not have to wait for it to encrypt the drive sector by sector as it's already done. This brand has been extremely reliable as I have never lost a single USB WD branded drive, ever (I have 2 other smaller USB powered 2.5" models as well). On the other had every Seagate drive I have purchased eventually failed. I will not be buying Seagate drives until they increase their reliability/longevity. Look at Backblaze for their quarterly review: https://www.backblaze.com/b2/hard-drive-test-data.html Warning... if you use any type of non-RAIDed HDD drive for backup be sure to have 2 separate copies to avoid loss due to bad blocks that can occur and you don't know about it until you try to read or write to that area. So even if your backup was successful, later the block can go bad preventing you from recovery. If you have two alternating backups on different sources the chance of this is less likely to occur.

This drive delivers high capacity at a fair price. This is my second 8GB My Book used for backup purposes. However, I'm not too fond of any of the WD software/utilities that comes with it.

I have a great quantity of data to save and this unit has enough capacity to handle all my files, for backup, and for the future. I had a 2-TB unit that quickly got filled and maxed out. This 8 TB device fits the bill for all my data and then some. It fits nicely and out of the way on my computer desk.

Fast, reasonable price, and easy to set up. But not silent. I'm using this as an external HD for my PS4. You can definitely hear vibration when the disk is being accessed. I have it sitting in my entertainment center next to the PS4 and every time it is accessed I hear a low hum. Maybe it's just the right vibration frequency to be amplified by the entertainment center enclosure, or something like that that only an acoustic engineer can explain. But I only mention this because this replaces a 4Gb drive that was SILENT in operation in the same location/function.

This is my 5th external storage from WD and they are always reliable. While not pocket size, they are easy to store. I also like that they external HD units come in a variety of hard drive capacity.

Purchased two of these to back up my sons laptops. Came in handy when one laptop failed and got replacement under warranty. Reasonable price, easy to use and compact.
