Incredibly simple, but that’s not a good thing

This was an incredibly disappointing product for someone who needs to do slightly more than simple drag-and-drop file transfers. I followed the setup directions to a “T,” then discovered all sorts of things I couldn’t do with it.
First off, the mobile and desktop apps are easy to use, and setup is simple. Setting up an automatic backup of my phone photos? A snap. So far, so good.
Oh wait. You want to set up automatic backups? Nope. Third-party software won’t recognize the drive, and the WD backup software you download via the desktop app won’t recognize the drive either, despite Windows File Explorer seeing the drive. Let’s add a folder to the drive. Easy! Let’s map the folder to a network drive letter. Nope. Not allowed. You can share folders via email invite, but you can’t map folders to be used with other programs.
It’s over simplistic, which is good for some people. But if you want even the slightest ability to customize things, you do not want this NAS drive.

The MyCloud Home is great for local network storage. You can storage any file and search them via your file explorer (if using Windows). But as a Cloud storage it needs greater improvement. You can only search and transfer pictures or videos, no music or documents using the MyCloud app. You have to use PLEX which only allows 1 user unless you pay a monthly fee to stream music from the MyCloud Home. I tried to use it for over 1 month and didn't like the restrictions so I returned it to purchase a more unrestricted NAS.

This device was very easy to install and use. It's solved a big problem for me by making my files available over the cloud.

If you are looking for something to share files like normal NAS does, this is not for you.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a personal cloud like Google Drive, Dropbox, etc., this is a good way to have all control of your own cloud. But your bottle neck is going to be your upload Internet speed.
It is very easy to use, but it does not have any advanced configurations. If you are the regular user kind, it is fine. But if you are medium - advanced user, run away from it. I could not even make an basic local area share. It just have an Public folder without any security.
I had to return it because the average speed was of 18 Mb/s (I looked some forums and it looks like it is normal https://community.wd.com/t/18-5mb-transfer-speeds-on-gigabit-lan/246365/21). My old (2013) WD Mybook speed reaches 80-85 Mb/s. So this was I needed to return this device and go for an WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra, that combines NAS functions with Cloud services.
Please do not misunderstand me, this is not a bad device, just it is far to be a NAS.
Before buy it, look at the WD forum. There is a lot of complains about the same thing, so, be sure you are buying exactly what you need.
Sorry, because my english is awful.
Be safe!

I bought this storage device to replace a similar type product from Seagate which only used a single internal drive. That drive had crashed and I lost my data so the ability for this product to use two drives in a raid format is extremely beneficial for data integrity. The other reason I purchased this drive was to be able to look at media while away from home on my cell phone and tablet. This product checks that box too. Where it falls flat on its face is if you have more than one person (say a family) who you would like all it's members to be able to store and share content with each other. You can have multiple users, but their content gets stored in separate locations that the drive admin can not even access!!!! There is also no public or shared space for users to share files with each other. Someone from the WD team has expressed on their forums that there is a "team working on this", but there has been no word on time frame of implementation of shared folders since it was announced by mddimmick on October 18th 2017. Until this is implemented I would not recommend this product.

Purchased this product thinking the newest generation would be faster than the previous MyCloud. The speeds are indeed slower, and the web apps seem to be taking a step back. Setup is easy, but performance is lacking.

The product is actually great and deserves 4 or 5 stars since it’s easy to set up and has cloud based features and a great entry level NAS.
I purchased this product to replace a NAS that failed, so my 3 star rating is in part due to a comparison to other NAS’s and a lack of advanced features.

It is an affordable way to manage your files and videos. You can connect to Plex and watch your pictures, movies and music from anywhere. It comes with two hard drives. You can use one for storing documents, files, movies, etc. and the other as a backup should one of them breaks. Hard drives are very easy to replace.

The design of the NAS is very nice. White plastic with a textured modeled finish.
It comes with two drive bays that you can use as a single large storage or in a Raid that allows you to have a mirror back up at the sacrifice of having only have the Storage.
The app works ok on Mac OS, but it doesn’t allow for searching for files it’s a small detail that isn’t a complete deal breaker, considering the price.

I took a long time and did a lot of research before I made this purchase. I use the storage for business first, personal second. I use a desktop primarily and also rely on my laptop when I travel. The My Cloud works perfectly for me. I don't need collaboration, I'm not sure it would be so great for that.

Love this NAS! Just wish I would have purchased a larger capacity since it gets cut in 1/2 when doing RAID 1 (mirrored). So easy to setup and easy to use. Setup multiple users too that cannot see the other people’s files and folders. Might sell this one to get a larger one...we’ll see.

This is my second cloud backup drive. This recent purchase is for my dad. Setup is easy. I just used it on my server yesterday to retrieve a file that became corrupted. I had to go back 4 versions to get one that was intact. This sure did save me a lot of grief.

I needed a new backup for my in-laws, one that wasn't USB and could backup multiple computers. While this is probably overkill, I like the redundancy of having two drives mirroring all the data.

The write speed is painfully slow. Even moving files from one folder to another will result in non-responsive errors.
I have an old LaCie raid that writes faster USB 3 to esata than the WD My Cloud does through ethernet.
The big issue recently I was unable to access the device Saturday night. Sunday, I opened a ticket with WD figuring I needed to send it. This is what I got back from them Monday:
Based on the information provided, I would like to inform you that the firmware update database migration process is occurring and please note that the firmware updates for the My Cloud Home device are provided Over The Air (OTA) when a new update is available and this process cannot be paused, stopped, halted or reversed.
Please note that the migration process can take longer than "a few moments" and upwards of 5 or so days depending on the amount of content hosted on the My Cloud Home and the complexity of the directory structure. For more information please refer the link mentioned below:
My Cloud Home "Device Is Migrating" Message in the Web and Mobile App
https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8025/kw/migration
I checked it Wednesday and I was able to access.
I don’t know why the write speed is still slow, combined with not being able to access it for up to five days, I can’t recommend it.

It is OK. I wish that I could control the albums better. When I use the backup feature for my iPhone, it stores the pictures in one continuous file that takes forever to review.

The My Cloud Home Duo is an excellent NAS device for storing photos & data that you then can access from anywhere via the browser connection. We used it as a Network Storage Device to hold a QuickBooks database. The transfer speeds are excellent and it works fine. The only drawback of this 'Personal Cloud' is that it does not have an administrators access account to monitor and manage individual sectors. You have to get the higher end NAS for that. Otherwise it is fine.
