    This drive is not reliable.

I purchased this to backup my laptop files. I spent several hours over the course of three days or so moving TONS files to this 1TB hard drive. Today the drive was accidentally disconnected from my laptop without ejecting it (NOTE: the drive was not in active use, it was merely connected). After this, the drive was corrupted. After attempting a fix-disc, it started operating properly but ALL files GONE. I'm in the IT industry and have used MANY external hard drives and have NEVER had one go this bad with a simple non-eject disconnect. Also, I attempted to return to Best Buy for store credit so I could purchase a different drive. They have proof that I purchased the product at their store, but they would not allow me to do this because it had been longer than 2 weeks since my purchase (it had been around three weeks).

I have a mac and I wanted to get an external hard drive that would be compatible with my Mac. The Best Buy that I went to only had this model in stock, s I bought it thinking that even after making some adjustments to the hard drive it would work. I tried to properly format that drive to be Mac compatible, but after sever attempts found out that in formatting the drive the entire 500 GB had somehow gotten corrupted. I returned it to a different Best Buy and found out that this company makes an exact same model of this hard drive that is MAc ready, no formatting needed. It isn't that company that is bad but just the fact that the first Best Buy that I went to did not have the proper product. My advice is to inform yourself before making a purchase of a hard drive.

I have been trying for over 10 hours trying to get this drive to work. All that I have accomplished is to get the message "No backup targets found." I spent about 2 hours with WD technical support and then after 2 hours they told me that the problem was my computer. I had my computer check for problems and was told that there was nothing wrong with my computer. I went to the WD Community on the internet and I found this is common problem with this drive and WD will not fix it. I have tried everything that was on the community board and it still won't work. I am through with this WD backup drive and will never buy another one.

4-TB capacity but unable to access half the drive. Popup message states a software upgrade required to use the drive. Drive partition is not accessible. Support website is counterintuitive. Cluttered with useless information. URLs for software downloads is like an Easter Egg hunt. Open one FAQ after another before finding the words "click here" in the middle of a paragraph. Downloaded what seen too be useful utilities but eventually determined they are of little use. Finally settled on using Windows 10 backup but still was challenged to recognize the network drive. Resorted to old tricks learned from earlier operating systems by first mapping drive then running backup. Frustrating experience. For price paid, I would not repeat a but of this device.

I purchased the WD Passport since it was advertised compatible with Windows 10. Well it either was not compatible with Windows 10 or the backup software did not work. I tried several times to get it working to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest online program and it still did not backup with scheduled backup and it only worked twice with the backup now command after numerous attempts. My two attempts to get help from WD Support were totally disregarded as I have not received any answer after two weeks. I believe I have gotten it to work using the built in Windows Backup but I am not holding my breath that this will work in the future.

I was not given expert customer service by the Geek Squad at NYC store 1448 in Columbus Circle. Had they known how to repair my computer, they would not have erroneously told me my hard drive was dying. It was not. I do not appreciate being sold a hard drive, computer and transfer service I did not need. I am even more horrified that the store manager will not answer phone calls or emails.

After an hour on the phone with their tech support, the Wallet still would not work with Windows 7. It not only doesn't work, it screwed up my wireless. I finally uninstalled it. Between their tech support not knowing how to make it work and all the problems I had, I tossed it in the electronic waste pile. Someone at work had the same problem with it with Windows 7.

I bought the portable HD and had the Geek Squad transfer pictures and data from an old computer that was hacked to the WD-My Passport HD. Initially the transfer appeared to work and the old computer was wiped clean. Afterwards it was discovered that the HD failed and I lost all data including 2 years worth of pictures.

Unfortunately I was not a fan of this product. I found the installation procedure rather difficult and experienced comparability issues with my new MacBook. I ended up returning this product in exchange for the Lacie Porsche Design product which has been a great fit for me.

I couldn't get it to work with windows 10. Spent over 8 hours on the phone with Microsoft and Western Digital. Both companies blamed the other. New laptop and new external hard drive that can't work together...very disappointed. Returned for refund.

I purchased this HDD after consulting you associate. I was attempting to connect this HDD to my cable company's Alpha hub. This Hdd couldn't be recognized as it had to be a sata HDD. I contacted Western Digital's customer support which was absolutely useless, so I had to return the HDD

I may need to return or reformat this as it did not work with my Windows 7 laptop for back up. I kept getting error messages that it could not complete. When I tried the software that it came with -- same thing. Must have bought a dud.
