I was told that when I plugged it into the computer the instructions would come up - how to use it ect. No instructions came up, only a list of sites, but no instructions.

Purchased this drive to use as external backup for my iMac however I had problems getting it to work with automated OS X backup app - drive was returned to store

I was able to back up my Mac without a problem. My issue was when I tried to recover the items I backed up. It kept giving me a format error message. I called the WD Passport IT line and neither of the two gentleman I spoke with could assist me. My Mac is upgraded to the latest software, but even then I could not understand why there was a capability issue. I'm considering returning the device because I don't want to take any chance with my files.

I have now purchased two of these. The first one burnt out. Best Buy opened it and saw a burn mark. My data was lost. I thought it was because I used it outdoors on a hot day and it overheated. I bought another one. Never used it outside. Same thing happened. Lost my data.

this thing is so un user friendly I don't even know if I bought the right thing or not. I asked store reps for help but can't get this to work, all I want to do is back up pics from my computer

Inoperable unit, purchased new in sealed box as Christmas gift. Out of 2TB drives when returned to store so was forced to buy a more expensive 3TB unit. At least the replacement works (so far).

My last WD drive failed prematurely too. Only being used for backups. That's 2 out of 3 that were a waste of money.

Bought this for my MacBook Pro. Worked for about 2 months then crashed. I think I lost all the data stored to it.

I was unhappy with the item simply because of the extremely slow transfer speed. I will stick with Seagate.

Haven't been able to get a successful backup. Configuration is complicated. Going to buy another product.

The product does not walk you through set up. You can't tell it's done its job.

Works great and does what I need. Room to store all the photos I need.

I have one for a PC, the set up for the PC was easy and upkeep is effortless therefore when we decided to buy a Mac it was obvious we would by a passport for Mac. Easy to use, space saver, affordable. No brainer

Compatible with Windows and Mac. Can store all my movies and large file photos.

This is an absolute necessity if you are looking for storage!
