I have been looking for a perfect storage device that can store college information from three different PC's. I love how light it is because I carry a small backpack whenever I'm out. It comes with a USB-C cable and a traditional USB cable, I used the C cable. It was extremely fast and I was able to move the contents from 3 flash drives (~65GB) and new files from my secondary devices (~25GB) in a very short amount of time. The majority of the transfer speeds were above 500MB/s during the largest transfer and the heat of the device was minimal. This external drive is perfect for me, and I highly recommend it. It's also compatible with consoles, but that's not my primary use.

Not as good as hoped for, it would randomly disconnect and I would have to unplug it and plug it back in. Returned it and got something different.

Bought this because the specs recommended it for Thunderbolt 3. Using it in this port only gets half the speed as stated.

I specifically bought this SSD due to the fact there was a 5 year warranty. There is no way to register the drive. I have a trouble ticket in to WD and they are not helping me at all. Tells me they will not back the warranty either

I connected this to my Xbox One. I ran a few updates then formatted the drive. After I moved a game there which was pretty fast. Then the load times for Madden 20 and Marvel vs Capcom were about 50% better. I did not notice any additional benefit during game play. I found the drive to perform about as fast as my internal ssd on my laptop. If I were purchasing I would also look at cheaper alternatives. I wish the 2tb was cheaper.

Works with the PS5 but extended storage on PS5 is only for PS4 games you want downloaded on the PS5. Buyer beware.

This WD portable SSD is a beast. Super fast, solid build and takes up very little space. I was running out of room on my gaming laptop and hooked this SSD up to it. The load times are much, much faster than the HDD I was using. If you are a gamer and looking for a speedy hard drive then look no further. You won't be disappointed with this. Should serve you well for years to come.

This is not the one that will set your gaming world on fire. This is not the one that is the best. Honestly, I do not know which one is the best but I will try to succinctly try to delineate some important points about this product. 1. Build Quality: 5 Stars. Strong, sturdy, yet light. 2. Able to withstand heat: 4 stars. Gets hot but not blazing hot. I have not yet done my 12 hour long experiments on it to know whether this will blast off to the moon.....I am sure it will not. 3. Speed: 4.5 stars. It is fast. I have used it in two of my PCs. The gameplay was never jittery. I am yet to try this on my Xbox. BUT, the max speed I could calculate was around 900 MB/S. 4. Ease of Use: 7 Stars. Plug and Play. I have used this drive to edit some videos and photos and it did not even blink. If you are looking for one solid allrounder then this will be a good purchase. It does not really have any flaws per se. And thank you for 3.2!

The shell is made out of metal so it is pretty sturdy. Storage is great and definitely future proof for the next gen of consoles. Works great on PC as well but mostly aimed for console use

for a PS5 you cant play PS5 games off the drive, but you can play PS4 games. would be cool if it was really extending the drive space.

Perfect External SSD for Backups or Games

1 TB External NVME SSD in a USB Enclosure whats not to love. Comes with a usb -c cable or usb-a as well. It boasts 2gb transfer speeds over usb-c and it delivers this based on my home testing. The usb-a over usb 3.0 got me around 300mb/s transfers from a SSD to this NVME drive in windows. The enclosure is very small and could easily fit in your pocket for safe transportation. Since its a SSD you dont really need to be concerned with dropped or shock damage, but the enclosure it self is very well made and sturdy. For those people wondering about shucking the drive, its very well made and put together and you would have a hard time prying it open to remove it without doing damage to the outer shell. To obtain the 2gbps transfers over usb-c requires the latest gen usb standards and ports, still even if you have an older system this is so handy for quick backups or moving files between pc's. Because its so small why bother with a flash drive. It also comes with directions for using it as PS4/Xbox game drive simply install with USB-A cable and format on whatever system you want and start installing games. It's important to remember you will be limited by the USB 3.0 ports of the PS4/Xbox don't expect game changing speeds but still its an improvement over the standard mechanical drives inside those units. In closing highly recommend this no complaints.

A drive ahead of its time

Reviewing an external drive is never exciting. You are going to see the same things said over and over again – “it’s the fastest I’ve ever seen, huge capacity, the best ever “and so on. In reality, there are not a lot that separates quality drives from reputable manufacturers. The WD_Black P50 1TB external drive is no different. What you need to look at is the capacity, the technology the build quality and the warranty. First, the capacity of the drive is 1 TB. It is the sweet spot of the WD Black P 50 line. The capacity is large enough to handle most gaming and file applications. If you compare the 1TB’s price of $250 compared to the other two sizes - $180 for 500 GB and $500 for 2 TB; it gives the lower cost per GB than the 500 GB but does not break the bank like the 2 TB. Next, let us look at the technology. This is a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. It is the newest and fastest spec, promising speeds at up to 20Gbps (by using two lanes of 10Gbps at once.) Great right? Well, you need to have a device made after November 2019 and specified with this speed protocol to take advantage of that top speed. Systems made prior to that and nearly all of today’s laptops will not have the new protocol. If you have a desktop system, you can get a PCIe expansion card that supports USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. With that said, this is a new technology and I am sure more devices will show up supporting this protocol. If you are looking for the fastest you can get right now on laptops, I only know Thunderbolt 3 laptops that can match or exceed the top speed of USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. In most case, your system will top out at 10Gbps transfer speeds over the USB 3.1 protocol. Regardless, this NVME SSD drive is the fastest USB drive you can get and is somewhat future proof. In terms of build quality, it is top notch. It’s mostly metal, durable and shock-resistant design. It is not water and dust resistant. The warranty is excellent at 5 years and is the top of the industry. So the big question, is this hard drive worth it? Yes and no. If you have a system that does not have support for the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, then no it is not. You can find USB 3.1 drives for 30 % less. However, if you have a system that supports the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 protocol or want something that is future proof ( think the next generation Xbox or Playstation) then this is a no brainer. It’s a high quality drive with a great warranty and spacious capacity.

I first installed this drive to my PS4, copied GTA V and tried it out. WOW! The load times are slashed, which is a huge deal on this game. I also used it on my PC and GTA load times were insanely faster as well. I have to get another one of these so I can use it on both systems and not waste my life away waiting for games to load! This product is a definite lifesaver and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to speed up their console or PC gaming experience!

    Wildly Impressive

The P50 is an impressive USB 3.2 drive that delivers over 1GB/s speeds in a compact form factor. If you have a Gen2 USBC port you can expect VERY impressive speeds. Even Gen1 ports will see impressive speeds just not the 'advertised' speeds. I have been using the P50 as an external Steam Library. Literally can't tell the difference in loading times between my external P50 and my internal NVMe drives. It is wild how efficient and fast external USB drives have gotten within the past couple of years. Don't expect these types of speeds when plugging into a PS4 or XBOX though, those consoles do not support the Gen2 2x2 interface and will only use USB3.0 speeds which are significantly slower. I think this drive is VERY overkill for those consoles. However, if you plan on using this as an external Steam library, I can't recommend it enough. I love this form factor, able to be slipped into a pocket. The case also serves as a nice little heat sink to keep your speedy drive cool and increasing the durability of the drive. The P50 is an impressive drive that delivers top-quality speed in an extremely compact form factor.

    Fast, sleek, Rugged SSD

Today I am reviewing WD’s newest portable SSD, right from the start you will notice how sleek, rugged and well made this SSD is. WD claims that this SSD works on PC, Macs, as well as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox one. First off I connected this to my Xbox one and downloaded a couple of games to it that I am familiar with to be able to compare loading times and overall data transfer. The games did load slightly faster, and even felt slightly smoother while playing, nothing game changing that will give you an online advantage but it overall did improve slightly . Next I connected it to my PC and downloaded a few large files, Super fast transfers with no noticeable noise, now to get the fastest possible transfer speed of the USB 3.2 Gen 2X2, you need the right kind of computer that can handle it. If you are looking at this SSD, it is most likely because you have a high-end PC And need the extra storage. if you are into high-end PC’s and accessories then this is the right product for you.
