I'm ready to play 2042. Unfortunately my motherboard is not Gen4 compatible for M.2s. I need to upgrade it to be able to use the storage or just build another pc for the fun of it

I'm always looking to increase the speed and space of all my computers anytime that I can. My Lenovo laptop is a great laptop for gaming except it only came with a 256Gb SSD Hard drive. However, it does have a space for a 2280 (full size) SSD and that's where I planned to install this. Taking apart my laptop clam shell was the most difficult aspect of this whole thing. Once I did that it was easy though, simply inserting the drive (which in fact does resemble a stick of gum like they say) and then screw it down with an .m2 screw.
NOTE: This drive does NOT include an M2 screw so if you don't have one on your motherboard (some do) in the spot where you're installing then you'll need to order one of those to go with this, otherwise you won't be able to get it to sit down into the slot.
Once I got it installed I rebooted up my laptop and used the Windows 11 disk management tool to partition and format. I spent the next few hours installing Steam games and running them and everything was extremely fast. I did do a Crystalmark but apparently I didn't save it as I cannot now find it but the drive was very fast I recall when comparing it to my other SSDs on my desktop.
As for the Battlefield code, please don't be like me and not read the instructions and try to activate it! I couldn't get the code to work until finally after re-reading the instructions I realized I was doing it totally wrong. Once I read the instructions I got the code in and it worked to get the game to come up. Of course the games not out yet so I couldn't test it but at least I know the code does work.
All in all this one is a heck of a deal. It's easy to install, is insane fast and comes with one of the best games of 2021! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (TO ALL YOU PC GAMERS ESPECIALLY!)

No d-ram for this nvme ssd model, thought it was just a refresh of the 750. Unsure of the of the performance impact it would have compared to my other 750, returned and got the 850 pcie gen 4

I installed the SN750 drive into my gaming laptop. Being an M.2 form factor it is incredibly easy to install as there are no cables whatsoever to deal with. The hardest part is finding the slot on the motherboard, or in my case I had to take the bottom cover off of my laptop to find the second available M.2 slot.
1TB was a nice addition to my laptop. I installed and formatted the entire drive as the D: drive in my system. Being that the main drive, which also is an M.2 SSD was pretty full I was able to free up space by moving media to the new drive and still have plenty of room left to install several games.
I did some basic drive performance benchmarking on both the SN750 and the existing main drive which is a Samsung NVMe drive. For small I/O Reads the Samsung outperformed the SN750 but above 64KB sizes the WD had better throughput. For most of the Write test block sizes the WD performed better.
I’ve had many WD drives over the years and the performance of this one does not disappoint. You will get a solid drive and can rely on WD quality as it’s backed by a healthy 5 year warranty.

I have always been a huge fan of Western Digital products. Whether it was their Black series of platter drives in the 00's, or their current SSD offerings, I have always preferred their products over the competition. This new SN750 SE drive is no different. I recently installed it in my 2nd NVME slot in my motherboard to store my most used games. I also use a WD NVME drive as my primary C: drive for Windows. My loading times for my most-played games are fast, and I have had no issues with performance in general. I have run Warzone and Horizon Zero Dawn for hours on this drive without a single hitch. I highly recommend this drive for capacity and speed, whether you are running your OS on it, or just using it for game/app storage. While I have not had a chance to perform any video editing on this drive yet, I can't imagine it would be anything less than flawless.

Good SSD for gaming storage

The WD Black SN750 SE is a fast, but not blazing, PCIe SSD. It adds value by including a redemption code for Battlefield 2042 on PC. I would consider this a very good drive for game storage on a second M.2 slot on motherboards that have them, but would probably consider faster PCIe drives, like WD's own superb SN850, for a primary drive.
The original SN750 was a PCIe Gen 3 drive that was very well regarded when it arrived in 2019. It still exists on the market, in part because it offers capacities up to 4TB. This new 2021 model is a single-sided M.2 2280 design that has a new controller, a Phison E19T, which offers PCIe Gen 4 capability. Maximum capacity is now 1TB, and despite the Gen 4 capability, read speeds top out at 3600MB/s, which will be hardly noticeable versus a fast Gen 3 drive (which top out at 3500MB/s), and write speeds top out at 2830MB/s. In testing using CrystalDiskMark on a Gen 3 motherboard (Gigabyte Aorus x470 with Ryzen 2600X CPU) I was in the ballpark: just under 3300 MB/s read, but the write speed did actually a bit better than ratings at 2900MB/s.
As for gaming, here's the dirty secret of SSDs: there's hardly any real difference between SATA SSDs and PCIe SSDs for almost all games, *at the moment.* That last part is key. The DirectStorage API that allows for such lightning-fast load times on the Xbox Series X/S will be coming to both Windows 10 and 11. That will allow PCIe drives like this one to finally separate themselves dramatically from SATA SSDs (both already are vastly faster than any mechanical hard drive).
One pet peeve, and WD isn't the only one guilty of this. Please spend the extra penny it would take to include a spare M.2 mounting screw. They're so tiny they're easily lost, and it's handy to include an extra.
Overall, this is a good drive, although I would steer towards the larger capacities. I wouldn't worry if you only have a Gen 3 motherboard, as it works fine and you'll hardly lose any performance vs. Gen 4 on this particular drive. The inclusion of a code for a new AAA PC game is a nice bonus. And with the hopefully soon roll-out of the DirectStorage API in Windows, this drive will likely benefit even more for gaming.

Comes in a box with downloadable code for newest battlefield. Installation is simple if you know what you are doing, be warned doesn't include a heatsink or a mounting screw that will have to come with your mobo. Once I installed it, I did a fresh install of windows 11 which went flawlessly. Speeds are incredibly fast as a gaming drive or main os drive. Backwards compatible in a gen 3 port as well. This can also be installed in a ps5 to increase your storage but I have it used in my gaming pc. Overall this is the ssd you want to add some more gaming storage to your PC or PS5.

Couldn't get the drive to read on my asrock b450 steel series mother board. Tried both nvme slots and ran through the bios settings and my pc couldnt find it.
Ended up sending a little more on the WD SN850 and it worked just fine. They're both gen 4 nvme with the same specs, exept the 850 is double the speed for a marginally more money.

- The latest WD Black SN750 SE NVME DRIVE this one is their limited edition line up that comes with a full digital copy of Battlefiled 2042, it retails for $179 and if you want withought the game it’s $139, for an extra $40 it’s a lot cheaper than buying the game separately which would cost you $60 for full price game.
- with the reading speed of 3600MB it’s way above my basic 561MB SSD that I current have on my pre build gaming PC.
- I have transferred games on this drive and it’s currently holding most of my games installed, currently have Warzone, Apex legends, MCC and couple other VR games that’s now been important to this drive. testing the speed of transfer it’s a night and day difference when it comes storing files to this NVME.
- I didn’t notice much difference from loading some games like MCC but considering I have a extra storage which does help me a lot when it comes to storing more games in the future, I could be more happier and satisfied.
- since its NVME drive i’m debating to either test this on my PS5 as well, from what digital foundry said it should work even tho it’s below the requirement speed. won’t highly recommend it but it’s definitely something that you can also use this SSD NVME for
- overall I think this is such a great deal, you get a small printed Battlefield 2042 with your SSD and for a cheap price of what you could have been paying for.

The 750 SE is mostly a production cost exercise that has had the knock-on effect of negatively impacting the smaller capacities write performance. It might be a few dollars cheaper than its predecessor but is still too expensive compared to other brands. The controller is a DRAM-less design making the read / write speeds much slower than advertised. On top of that, the code for BF did not work. Poor overall value.

This WD internal SSD delivers on enhancing the performance of your gaming rig. This NVMe 1TB SSD does what it promises to do, it delivers fast load times and at the same time you get to increase your storage. I know some people have complained about this SSD not coming with a heat sink, but I didn't have an issue with this as I am adding this SSD to my hard drive. If you know your way around PCs, then you will get this SSD installed in no time. Once I installed it, I could easily see the impact it made on my rig. This WD SSD vastly improved my load times and on top of it all, this comes with a Battlefield 2042 game code. If you are looking to get more space and quicker load times, at this price range, you can't go wrong with this Western Digital SSD.
