The Vtech Wearable Home SOS Pendant works as described with the Vtech emergency call phone system but it has one flaw. The emergency call button is too easily activated while picking it up or taking it out of a pocket thus initiating an emergency call. I got this for my 88-year-old mother. While picking it up, her thumb would accidentally depress the button. Doing so, she triggered several false alarms. At first, I thought the unit was defective because she did not know how the alarm went off. When I asked her what she was doing when the alarm sounded, she told me she had just picked it up from the table. I then put the pendant on the table and asked her to pick it up. Sure enough, the alarm was triggered. I noticed that while she picked it up, she did not realize her thumb was on the button. A situation that could easily occur especially for the elderly. The same thing happened when she was taking it out of her pocket where she normally keeps it. This flaw could have been a deal breaker for my mother’s usage. Compared to other such emergency call systems I’ve tried, this Vtech emergency call phone system performs the best, works consistently, has more phone features and is easily programmed. It also costs much less. For those reasons, I wanted to keep the system but to do so, I would have to overcome the pendant’s shortcoming. I did so by devising a cover that would prevent the button from being accidentally depressed but allowed the button to be easily depressed in an emergency. A picture of the pendant with and without the cover is shown below. The 2-star rating I have given is based on the unit without the cover. With such a cover I give the pendant 5 stars. The Vtech emergency call phone system is excellent as an emergency call system and a phone/answering system with such a cover.
