We live in an age of technology, with endless resources at our fingertips. Lurking around every corner are malicious online threats that put your computers, mobile devices, information and identity at risk. While you answer e-mail, you're vulnerable to phishing attacks. Every new link may lead to a virus. Fake Web sites might look legitimate but could trick you into revealing crucial information. Malware could infiltrate your device at any moment. First let me state I am aware Windows 8.1 comes with WIndows Defender which is free to all registered users. I am also aware there are free versions of virus and malware scanners available such as Avast! and Malwarebytes. That all being said I would still pay for an annual subscription for WebRoot Secure Anywhere Internet Security Geek Squad edition. The one thing that impresses me the most about WebRoot is the SPEED at which this program can scan an entire computer for viruses and malware. It makes all other programs I've used in the past seem slow as molasses on a cold morning. Despite how fast Webroot scans it has found numerous bits of viruses and malware trying to sneak onto my computer. That being said the program can over react if you use home made video game patches for old unsupported video games. In this case you need to add the file(s) to Webroot's exceptions list. The other aspect of Webroot that impresses me is how LITTLE system overhead the program eats up when running. Webroot's memory footprint is surprisingly small given this day and age. The percentage of CPU time Webroot uses is modest compared to say Symantec End Point which gobbles up CPU time like an old muscle car can burn through gasoline. Honestly most of the time I never notice nor realize Webroot is running in the background scanning my computer. Webroot also comes with additional features such as system optimization and secure erase. I've never used the optimizer feature and I have no idea how secure the secure erase feature is. All in all the speed and small system footprint would be enough to continue subscribing to Webroot year after year.

In my previous corporate life Norton/Symantec security tools were the gold standard both by reputation and experience in a shop with over a thousand installations. Recently however, on a Windows XP PC that almost certainly was virus infected freshly built Norton Internet Security Bootable Recovery Tool found one suspicious file (rpcss.dll) and could not repair it. After manual repair Norton Internet Security installed easily then updated itself for at least five hours (processing, not download). On subsequent boots it would eventually get around to running LiveUpdate and that process would consume CPU and ever-increasing quantities of virtual memory until the PC would be unresponsive to its user. Fortunately, I also had a new copy of Webroot. Norton I.S. uninstalled (almost cleanly). Webroot installed cleanly, updated itself and has let the PC run responsively for weeks. Now, is it protecting this PC against viruses? I see the classic EICAR68 harmless test virus is now described as harmful by PANDA, so I'm reluctant to try that. Does it get updated to recognize new threats? Unlike Norton Internet Security's explicit/automatic LiveUpdate, which does work on all of the other computers I've installed, Webroot says "It's all handled in the cloud". I'm starting to interpret that statement with as much trust as "Your check is in the mail" and other notorious phrases. In summary, Webroot doesn't hurt this PC as much as a certain highly-promoted anti-virus product. It shuts up Windows griping that there isn't any active virus protection. Maybe it protects against viruses. Maybe it recognizes new viruses via cloud magic.

I was skeptical of Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus and Security and would not have put it on my machine had it not already been installed by the Geek Squad when I picked-up my new computer. Well, Webroot is great. I purchased an Asus 2-in-1 Q552U laptop a little over 6 months ago and swapped its internal mechanical drive for a new Solid State Drive. I had planned on buying some of the robust sounding antivirus and security software I had read about online even though my system came with a one-year free subscription to Webroot. Since Webroot was already installed when the computer was picked-up, that is what I started with, and now will continue to use, and plan to renew with. It has the lightest footprint I have ever experienced. It does not put a drag on the system whatsoever, start-up bios takes all of 7 seconds, a complete scan takes 35 seconds (note, with a Samsung 850 Pro Solid State Drive in the driver’s seat and an i7-6500 processor), and no security threat or virus has breached the system. It has been perfect for my home-office use. If you are tired of antivirus and security software which put a drag on your system and still need something effective, I found Webroot to be great.

I took my computer to Best Buy, where I purchased it in 2008 because I knew it was infected with something. I was using my ISP's security and Norton at that time and it was obvious something had gotten by both of them. The Geek Squad folks at Best Buy cleaned it up and as part of the service I received the Webroot security program. Following the Webroot instructions I uninstalled Norton and loaded Webroot. I've had no problems since and Webroot has caught, identified, and quarantined a couple of malicious threats and even tells me what internet site they came from. This is really useful information, I think this program does everything it claims to do. Another nice thing is that Webroot updates itself automatically so I don't have to worry about not having the latest protection. I'm an old man that has been playing with these electronic Whiz-bangs for awhile, my first computer ran the latest and greatest at the time, WIN95. I've kept track of the increasing abilities of websites to infect computers and Webroot does everything it claims to do. If I've any advice for anyone it would to be that everytime you fire up your computer have Webroot run a full scan and clean up before you do anything on it.

When purchasing my MacBook Pro, a Best Buy sells associate recommended the Webroot secure anywhere software to to me as a complement to my purchase. Admittedly, I have never heard of the software and have been using the more prominent antiviral software such as Norton and McAfee. My immediate response to him was no thank you. I have had enough of antiviral software as it would consistently hold me up of operating the machine through slow foreground turns of scanning during all phases, whether in start up mode, work mode or shutdown mode. It was a knowing in my machine was so inefficient that I hate using it. This got worse over time. However, I was open-minded, and listened to the sales associate describe how differently and how efficiently the Webroot software actually worked. For one, it wasn't loading a database directly onto your hard drive, instead it ran from the cloud, that was an immediate plus. Additionally, it didn't work in the foreground but instead in the background, that you hardly even knew was running. So far, I've had no viruses and no significant threats that concerned me and no slowdown in using the machine as intended. I currently have the best of both worlds, a Mac operating system and a well-designed antiviral software that lets me work while it protects the device.

I used another company's security for a long, long time. I got two new computers at the same time and started using Webroot. My security was due to expire in a few days, so trying out a new one on a new computer seemed to be a good idea. I am no techie, and can not talk about technical things. Program installed easily and set up was easy. I was quickly able to set up an automatic scan and able to check it later to verify it was performing. I was able to do all this without having to contact Geek Squad for help. I also set up my ex-husband's new computer. He got a different program for his protection, so I was able to see the difference. upon installation, It completely removed another (purchased) program that was dedicated to malware but failed to remove the windows installed trail security free version. This created a few issues until I figured out the problem and removed that free trail version. I noticed also that there are a few popups (not protection notifications) that I never see on my computer with Webroot. Setting up a schedule for scanning and verifying it's performance was also much more difficult. Since I have seen the operations of three security programs, I can honestly say that Webroot is my first choice.

My iMac had been compromised by some sort of malware or adware, and even though I had the pop-up block option selected, I was getting flooded with pop-ups on every site I visited, and if I had Javascript enabled I kept getting messages that my computer had been infected by a virus and to call a mac support phone number to get help with it. Of course I did not do that, but I did take my Mac to the Geek Squad to get the issue rectified. I made a morning appointment to drop off the computer, took it in and was called up within 5 minutes of my appointment time to speak with the Geek Squad representative. He did a quick check on the machine, commented that my virus protection program could be causing some of the issues, and said that they could take care of it. He quoted me a period of 48-72 hours to get the issue rectified. I received a call as well as an email later that day informing me that my computer was ready to be picked up. All the issues were rectified, the old virus protection was removed, and WebRoot had been installed. The computer response is now faster than it was when I took it in. Bottom line, I was extremely pleased both with the services performed as well as the time it took for the repair. I will be taking my wife's PC as well as my laptop in for a "tune-up"

I used Webroot a few years ago and got away from it. I think it was time for renewal and I wanted to go cheap. Went with the free protection using Security Essentials, Windows Defender, Spybot, etc as well as the free removal tools like Malware Bytes. Got Webroot free again recently as part of a purchase. Also got Trendo Micro Titanium at the same time. Installed each product on 2 different machines and wow - the Webroot is so much better in terms of system resources and being less obtrusive. I forgot how much I liked it until now. Over the years I have tried many of these products - McAfee, Norton, many of the free ones, etc. But in the end, I have to say that Webroot is my favorite. Its my favorite because it just doesn't mess up my PC like the others have. There is no way for the average Joe to compare effectiveness - I will leave that to the pros. But I have never gotten a virus or malware with this product installed. Some of that could be due to common sense and good surfing/email habits - I don't know. But I really like this product for the reasons stated above. Can't recommend it enough. Note - I have worked in IT now for over 30 years.

Webroot Secure Anywhere Internet Security software is an excellent soluton to provide antivirus protection to up to 3 internet-connected devices such as a desktop PC or Mac, a laptop or tablet computer and an Android or I-Phone type smart phone. The software far exceeds my expectations in providing real-time antivirus protection for my desktop PC and Android-based smart phone. On the desktop PC, it also provides useful and timely informational warnings when a selected website might pose a security threat and an easy way to exit the selected site before opening. When my trial subscription runs out, I will renew it for approximately half the annual price of the bundled intenet security and backup bundle that was an add-on to my internet service. To keep my computer clear of annoying pop-ups and auto-play advertisements, I supplemented this software by downloading AntiSpyware Free from a reputable site. Using the AntiSpyware Free in combination with the Webroot SecureAnywhere software keeps my computer functioning without the threat or annoyance of viruses, trojans, bots or malware. I recommend the Webroot Secure Anywhere software highty!

My computer came with a free trial version of McAfee preloaded. I got Webroot as part of an incentive when I bought my computer, but I know if you install competing versions of virus software sometimes there are conflicts. So I waited and the day my McAfee free trial version ended is when Trovi dot com malwared me. Trovi takes away your homepage and ties to gather info. on sites you visit. . I downloaded Malware bytes which helped me in the past and it seemed to get rid of the problem. But then after I get a message from McAfee that I am no longer protected I see the same url address trying to get in again 94 dot 102 dot 63 dot 129 thru 94 dot 102 dot 63 dot 235. which belongs to some hackers in the Netherlands called Ecatel Ltd. They are the ones sending out this Trovi stuff. . I found their phone number 317-022-04015 and fax 317-022-0415 if anyone wants to do something about them. Anyway, once webroot was installed it found 7 files that Malware bytes did not and cleaned them. Apparently these Ecatel Ltd people were still trying to hack me. So thank you Webroot!

Web root was recommended by the Best Buy team at initial laptop purchase. I installed it without issue. Haven't had any issues since install on April 16th, 2016. The virus definitions are cloud based so it's always up to date. The only limitation is you need to be online for Webroot to be accessing those latest definitions. Not really a major problem. My only concern is that this limitation should be made more obvious to me. I asked and found out about it. Basically if you use a thumb drive while offline you are not scanning with the latest definitions. Doesn't happen much, but I like to know the limitations of what I use. It's scanning my whole computer in less than 1 minute. This is much faster than previous uses of Norton and McAfee. Granted I haven't put much on the laptop yet. But I do wonder how it's scanning so fast. It's hard to know if it's doing as good of a job as the competition, but time will tell.

I was given a free year of Webroot when I bought my new ASUS laptop at Best Buy. I've been using Norton products for many years, and the last few years I've been using Norton 360. It's very important to me that I have good internet security, antivirus, and I like having the password program functionality. This meets all of those needs, and also gave me enough licenses that I could cover all 3 of the family computers with it. Before I installed it, however, I went online and did some research and read some professional reviews to find out just what was out there these days, and how they rated. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this is one of the top runners. It was very easy to install and set-up, has already prevented me from landing in a couple of malicious websites, and it's clean-up functionality was a welcomed surprise. It was also pretty easy to get the other two computers on board with it. (I would recommend uninstalling Norton's, if you have that, BEFORE installing WebRoot).

When I purchased a new computer, I received a one-year free subscription for virus protection. There were a few different brand choices, including Webroot which could be installed on up to 3 computers. Since my husband already had Webroot on his computer, he likes it, and has no problems with it, I decided to go with Webroot, and he could switch to this subscription when his current subscription expires. However, he contacted Webroot customer service and was able to cancel his current subscription and switch to the free one-year subscription. We are saving money by not paying for two different virus protection programs. I will also install it on my old computer, which I am keeping to let my grandkids use to play video games. So far, I like the Webroot virus protection program. It gives me automatic periodic reviews, and I can check the status at any time. The annual cost is also very reasonable, and it covers all our computers.

I've been online since the beginning of the WWW, and the years of headaches dealing with antivirus packages seemed to increase quarterly, as more and more Black Hats spawned themselves out there. Delightfully, however, when I recently purchased a new laptop from Best Buy and had their Geek Squad configure it for me, they put the new WebRoot anti-everything on-board as well. It really is pretty much issue-free. The initial set-up was simple enough, and I've learned a few things like letting it know when I add 'freeware' from the web, I need to let WebRoot know that I know and I accept it and it needs to play right and let the freeware exist and do its thing without quickly erasing it, shutting it down, or telling me all about what it was trying to do. Once I got trained-up on how WebRoot works, its been simply charming and glitch-free. It's SO much better that the old ones I wrestled with way-back-when!

Best Internet Security Program I've used in 30 yrs! Better than most corporate Internet Security Programs! I ran my own PC store for 10 years and literally have tried them all but was never able to find one that quite "fit the bill" so to speak. Other big name products named similarly are huge memory hogs and bog down the entire system. Webroot didn't slow my PC down at all and in fact, after I ran their "system optimization" Utility (included) - it actually sped it up quite a bit and changed my mind about buying a new computer! It also comes with a ton of features that normally you would have to load 6-7 different programs in order to get! Webroot comes with them all included! Unbelievable. I will definitely be recommending this to all of my customers from now on as it is an excellent product for a great value! I'm surprised they aren't selling this at twice the price but if they were, I'd still pay it!

With all the phone calls I was receiving from different companies letting me know that my computer was full of virus. Each company called was a virus in them self. I decided to find professional help. My computer is very important to me. I have to keep up with my banking statements, pay my bills, surf the internet, keep my church programs up to date. Talking to a friend who brought a laptop from Best Buy told me to take it to the Geek Squad. So I called and ask them about my computer. The were so professional over the phone and told me to bring it in. This was the best thing I have ever done. So glad I did. It didn't take them a long period of time to fix my baby and call me to let me know it was complete and finished. The Price was right. I have now another group of friends. I have also passed the word on to different friends. If your computer is acting up take it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy. Thank you so much Geek Squad you are the greatest.

I took my new computer into the geek squad to see if they could fix my problem with mal-ware and Viruses. It was so bad that I couldn't use my computer even for emails. I received a phone call two days later that my computer was done. I picked it up and it was in fact fixed. I took it home and attempted to load itunes. It would not load. Something in the Microsoft software was corrupt. I called the geek squad hot line to see if it could be fixed online (a feature that came with my purchase of insurance from the Geek Squad). I watched my screen while Jacob W. took control of my computer and started working on the problem. Two hours later he had gone through many "layers" of possibilities and finally was able to fix my software. This guy was absolutely fantastic. Now my Dell is running better than it did when it was brand new. And, the people at the geek squad were patient and polite with me, even when I couldn't accurately describe the problem.

I was relieved with the ease of installing the Webroot Internet Security the first time. This time, when I needed to renew my protection, it was not as easy. I was told in the store that the protection would start the day of installation, but it did not. When I had problems with the installation, I called Geek Squad and was told that it was already installed. I was told that protection starts when the first one expired. I was told what to do if it did not kick in. It didn't work. I kept getting pop-ups saying that the protection was running out. I had to get help from the Geek Squad again. Both times both men were very helpful. My suggestion to the Webroot Internet Security company is to provide a communication box that states your product has already been installed, and protection will start with the original Webroot expires. I hope this will improve the next time for my renewal.
