Works well but difficult to setup

First I need to say that my experience is with using a Google Nexus phone running Android 6 to perform the setup. I have 3 WEMO devices and control them with my Amazon Echo. They work very well using 'Alexa' for voice control. The Amazon Echo also discovered them on the network with out any problems once each device was updated to the latest firmware. The real issue with the WEMO devices is configuring them on your network and then performing the required firmware update. The WEMO's automatic wireless network configuration combined with my phone's cell service caused significant issues due to the WEMO app getting confused about the correct network. My recommendation when setting up a WEMO, if your are using an Android device, is to disable your cell service or use a tablet device. Plus make very sure that your WEMO device is updated to firmware before attempting to use it with an Amazon Echo.

    Functional but glitchy

I purchased my wemo switches to use with my google home. I chose wemo because they will work without having to add an additional hub. The switches function but the reliability is just not there. I have one wemo switch that constanly loses it's wifi settings. And the other switches are glitchy with google home at times. Sometimes my google home says they are not available, and sometimes my google home will confirm it has turned on or off the switch, but nothing happens. This seems to be a Wemo thing and not a google home issue because I use another brand's dimmer switches with a hub, and it does not have the reliability issues that I have experienced with the wemo switches. Hopefully a future firmware update will improve the overall reliability.

    Belkin - WeMo Light Switch

Works well with the exception that it does not work consistently at all with a motion detection outdoor light fixture. I have to say turn on and turn off twice to get it to work, which works about 50% of the time. It does not matter what setting I use for motion detection. If I connect a non motion detection light fixture to it then it works 100% of the time. I got this because the light switch it replaced was located all the way in the Garage that turned on the backyard spot light when the dogs went outside at night. So now I have to replace the motion detection fixture with a non motion one. Still the new fixture is cheaper than buying two equivalent 100 watt wireless spot light bulbs.

      Hi, JoeSal98,

Thank you for sharing your experience. It appears that this challenge is due to the compatibility of the Wemo Light Switch with the motion detection light bulb fixture as the switch works with a regular bulb. If there's anything that we can help you with, do not hesitate to email us at WemoCares@belkin.com.

    Kind of Buggy but Work

Works well when it works. I have 5 of these switches and often only 3 or 4 will show up in the WEMO app on my iPhone. The others show to be offline. Also every time I open the WEMO app it asks if I want to do a firmware upgrade. Even if I do the firmware upgrade it will ask again when I open the app 15 minutes later. Sometimes the switch will be stuck in the ON position and I cannot turn off the lights. I have to turn off the breaker to "reboot" the switch so it will work again. Even with these issues I prefer this switch to the timer style switches I used previously. I use these for my outdoor security lights and have them on at sunset and off at sunrise. Programing is easy and have many options.

      Hi there,

Thank you for sharing with us your feedback for the WEMO Light Switch. We understand that receiving such prompt several times is kinda annoying, but we strongly recommend you proceed with the firmware upgrade to ensure that your device will work properly. In cases that your WEMO devices won't show on the app, we suggest you force close the WEMO App then relaunch it.

I bought two of these one for my foyer and one for my front porch. Works great for my front porch as it only has one light switch unfortunately can not use it on any light that has multiple switches so the foyer was out. Seems that has been an issue for a long time with this brand others do have this capability. I won't be buying anymore of this brand as I would like all my switches automated eventually and would like the same brand. They do connect to easy and configure to your router easy as well we have had a couple of minor power outages and have not had to reconnect. This would be my first choice if not for the 2 way limitation.

the switch itself is fairly straightforward and easy to install, but the setting up of the switch in the wemo native app, on Alexa, Google Home and Homekit is anything but. It drops spontaneously, it responds with a noticeable lag even on very fast networks and generally is less than user-friendly or that intuitive. Also for Homekit support, Wemo gouges you for an additional outboard bridge even though Apple has released full software integration with Homekit. Hey FoxConn, if you're listening these things need work.

    Functions yet bulky

The switch was very easy to install and setup, my only complaint is how bulky it is. If you are looking to install in a single switch with the provided switchplate you shouldn't have a problem. When i installed in a 2, 3, or 4 gangbox with non wemo switches, i had trouble keeping the switches flush to the wall because of how much space the switch itself took up + wires. Would recommend purchasing the wemo smart switch for a single switch box, aside from that i suggest shopping around for less bulky smart switches.

Works well with home automation but has drawbacks

I use several WeMo light switches in my home to control outside lights. They work seamlessly with my Google Home to control them manually and with IFTTT automation to turn them on at sunset or during vacation schedules. However, one major drawback is that the switches loose their configurations if power is lost (such as during a storm), requiring each to be set up manually again switch-by-switch. While this doesn't happen often, it is a disappointment that the switches do not recover and re-sync to wireless automatically after a power outage.

      Hi, Spartan76,

Power outages should not cause your Wemo Light Switch to lose its configurations. For a stable connection, it is recommended to keep your Wemo's firmware up-to-date. We'd be more than happy to have one of our Wemo Experts look closely into this unlikely behavior. Shoot us an email at WemoCares@belkin.com with your contact information and the link to this post.

I have 2 of these, 1 for a porch light and one for the garage. The garage one cuts in and out, it’s probably my distance to WiFi. HomeKit was a pain to manage if you need to reset and reinstall. so after a lot of frustration I deleted managing them from Apple and use Alexa. However she doesn’t find the device using the Wemo skill, but still installs as an “other” device. The App could use some work.

I've been pretty happy with the Belkin. Installation was not difficult, but may be a little challenge for those that are not a DIY type. If you can change a light switch you can do this. The switch is handy, and I like the fact you can control from the phone or from the switch. The 3 star rating comes from the fact that there's been a number of times I've hit the switch and it doesn't work, or it may loose a connection. Doesn't happen much, but it's a bit of a hassle when it does. I do recommend the switch though.

Your feedback regarding our WEMO product is appreciated. We suggest that you adjust the router’s wireless channel to avoid possible interference in your network. Use the Wi-Fi analyzer app. It helps you to find a less crowded channel for your wireless router.

It works fine. I purchased this in a hurry right before a trip to keep the front lights on at night. I use the timer function and it works fine. I can also turn the lights off and on remotely, but I'm not sure I see the point to that for me. (I keep them on during dark all the time anyway.) Overall, a $20 timer would have worked fine for me. WEMO has other products and I had thought maybe in the future I would add on, but nothing seems that usefull to me. Glorified timers that require wifi and a cell phone of wifi tablet.

WEMO LIGHT SWITCH - BETTER HAVE A NEUTRAL WIRE

    • My Best Buy® Member

I had hoped to install this switch for my wife to control the bedroom's overhead lights with Google Home. Unfortunately, I could not install the switch because it required a neutral (white) wire to operate. In other words, a neutral (white), hot (black), and switch wire. I did not have the neutral. I wasted a lot of time trying to install the switch to no avail and returned the product. The other WEMO outlets that I have work very well however.

      Hi, Jacques,

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. Yes, a neutral wire is required to set up the Wemo Light Switch. This may not be always present in your electrical wirings at home. However, if present, it can be normally found in the wall box with a wire nut on top of it.

Should you need assistance with your other Wemo outlets, feel free to contact us directly at WemoCares@belkin.com. We'd be more than happy to serve you.

In order for this to work it has to be installed on a single pole switch (where only one switch controls whatever its for) and the problem is that any of those in our house lives in a box with 3 of its friends that would also need to be replaced to the flat type switch just so you can then find a faceplate to go over it. It's more my fault than the switches but such is life.

I purchased a bunch of these before doing my home work. Each one connects to your network, and increases traffic. If you have other items using wifi, they compete for bandwidth, and boot each other offline, or worse your security cameras, or thermostat get booted. Go with a phillups Hue home starter kit, with a bridge, and keep the data moving smoothly.

I would recommend this to a friend who wants something to experiment with. It is reasonably priced. I think the product and product line is a bit immature right now, but it is showing promise to be something greater than it is now. Its not 100% reliable and depending on the device, it isn't very intuitive to configure, but I am confident that with future advances, firmware upgrades and more adopters of the product it will improve.

The device works however it does not connect into Apple Home directly like some other Wemo switches. It needs a bridge to connect, another $30 or $40. Would change to another product that was more universal comparability. The first time I tried to use the switch remotely the app crashed, had to reset when returned home.

Works pretty well using iOS for on/off and rules (which are seen by all iOS devices). Have never gotten any Android device able to see the same rules, although it still turns the switches on and off. The major issue is that if a light was on for any reason (manual, remote or rule) and you lose power, when the power comes back on, all switches return to an OFF state.
