After some research, many of these products require a Hub to operate the peripheral pieces. The WEMO does not, and can operate independently on its own thru your phone or tablet. The WEMO also easily connects to our Amazon Echo for voice command control.

We don't get up at the same time every morning, so a timer won't work. The coffee pot gets primed the night before with water and coffee, and it gets activated while we're getting up. I'm experimenting with wireless control of some blinds in a room. Just the thing to do either job.

I use them in places where it's easier to use the app to turn lights on and off and having to run around to "re-link" the unit is a bit of a pain. But when it works, which is 85%-90% of the time, it's a solid performer
