We at first bought Kasa smart plugs and after working on installing for a few of hours, we discovered that it wanted 2.4 hz WiFi in order to work which I had no idea how to switch my WiFi. We returned them and bought the WeMo plugs and are a huge fan!! Installation was under 2 minutes and it was very easy to connect to google home. It’s also slightly slimmer than the Kasa and the packaging was cute and easy.

Generally speaking, I really like these Wemo smart plugs. For starters, the design is excellent. They are smaller than the original Wemo Mini and can therefore fit into tighter places. The glossy white color matches standard white outlet covers so they don’t stand out like a sore thumb if they aren’t hidden behind anything.
These Wemos also shine when it comes to compatibility with smart home devices and app design. While some brands only work with one, Wemos work with Alexa, Homekit, and Google. I am personally using mine with Alexa. Once you activate your plugs within the Wemo app, you simply enable the Wemo skill in the Alexa app and everything syncs automatically. The Wemo app is simple and easy to navigate. Once everything is up and running, the app opens to your plugs with power buttons that can be operated anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection. The Wemo app gives you the ability to change the names of your plugs and schedule times that items plugged into the outlets should be on or off. It’s pretty slick having the lights turn on for you in the morning!
Sadly not everything about these Wemo plugs is perfect. Learning how to set these up was an inconvenience for sure. These plugs are only compatible with the 2.4 GHz ‘band’ coming off of your WiFi router. Most people have dual band routers in 2020, so this itself is not a problem, it’s just how Wemo goes about connecting to your router in the first place. During setup, I expected that I would have to choose a WiFi network for the plugs to connect to, like most internet-connected devices. Instead, the plugs automatically connect to whatever network your phone (or whatever device you use to set the plugs up) is connected to. This means you have to go into your WiFi setting on your setup device, switch to the 2.4 GHz connection (assuming you were connected to 5 GHz), go to the Wemo app to set everything up, then go back to settings and switch back to the 5 GHz connection. Like I said, for me this was inconvenient, but for someone who maybe isn’t as tech savvy, it’s not intuitive and could become frustrating very quickly. Kinda hope Wemo can make this process a little simpler or maybe just allow their plugs to connect to either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz connections. One other quick thing to mention here is that I have owned Wemos prior to these and could not get them to connect to shared WiFi networks, like those you find in university residence halls. Since owning those Wemos, I have moved, so unsure if this is still an issue. Just thought I’d mention it.
Long story short, Wemo’s setup could be a little more straightforward, but once you’re up and running, you’ll wonder why you didn’t get them sooner.

The Wemo smart plug is easy to use. I give it 4 stars but it’s really a 5. I don’t like that Wemo makes you download their app even if you’re going to be using it with a Google Wifi system. Works perfectly and highly recommended. Great for Christmas tree lights as well see my picture.

There has been 3 FW updates since I purchased these plugs, 6 total. The FW update allowed the plugs to finally stay connected to my network. Before that they would not stay connected but a few hours. The issue I have had from the start is creating a rule like when a plug is turned on it will not count down to turn off. I hoping real soon WeMo comes up with a solution to fix this issue. I’m sure WeMo will but man do they take baby steps resolving there software problems. I have become more patient these day so time will tell.

I’ve had WEMO devices before and been very happy with them.
These plugs are fantastic and make home automation so easy.
I even have my mom on board!
These plugs are affordable, not as cumbersome as some similar products and are designed to work with Apple and HomeKit.

Belkin did a great job with these smart switches. They not only made them easy to pair and hookup to the app but the size and shape of the switches is perfect.
I have over 100 smart devices in my home. These are the by far the best plugs I own mostly because of the size. Belkin took the time to really make sure the size was as compact as possible on these. If you look at the picture, I attached you can see the width doesn’t extend the width of a standard plug plate and from a height perspective, it doesn’t cover the upper or lower outlet. That’s perfect! I have some smart plugs that I have to attach a 1ft extension cord to because they are too bulky to sit in the outlet.
The pairing through the app and the instructions were very simple to follow and I had my switches up and operational in no time. There was a brief firmware update I had to go through once I got the switch connected but that is a great sign of a company trying to improve its product. It linked to my amazon Alexa as well as my google home perfectly and I can control the plug via voice with ease. You will not find a lot of smart plugs this size so I appreciate Belkin taking the time to design it very well. Excellent job!

I had high expectations for this item and at first it was really great and worked as expected. It just depends on your level of patience with it honestly. I’ll just layout my pros and cons from my experience:
PROS
- Easy setup
- Integrates with Google Home well so I can say “Hey Google, turn off the family room light” and it does so. Same with Alexa.
- You can set the lighting on a schedule to turn off and on at certain times
CONS
Repeatedly having to reinstall it, especially after unexpected power outages
If you don’t connect it to Alexa or Google Home, you have to keep your phone with you to control it
The repeated installations make it more of a headache than a convenience
It’s sort of okay for what it is, but I am not very patient with all the kinks with reinstalling and disconnecting from Wifi all the time, so I won’t at all purchase this again.

Belkin Wemo Smart Plugs automate lamp operations

“Why buy these?,” is the most obvious question.
They are part of today’s “IoT.” IoT, or “Internet of Things” as defined on Wikipedia: “The Internet of things (IoT) is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.”
In other words, smart watches, smart thermostats, computers, smart refrigerators, smart plugs, smart door locks, and a growing list of smart, “connected devices” can communicate to share info YOU want to share and to perform available customer-set or learned commands and behaviors under the user’s control.
Plugging compatible devices into these smart plugs makes them SMART without having smart technology built in. Smart plugs, including these Belkin Wemo Smart Plugs, allow users to turn on lamps and other compatible devices.
If the opportunity to remotely control lights and fans, for example, is an attractive option, then these are for you!
Note that these Belkin Wemo Smart Plugs will not block the lower outlet when used with a standard two-outlet wall plug. They are wide, however, and will block adjacent left or right outlets in a setup where there are outlets on either side of the one in which this Wemo Smart Plug is attached
How do they communicate? Through your home or small office Wi-Fi on the 2.4 GHz band. Why the 2.4 GHz band and not 5.0 GHz? These and many other IoT devices rely on the communicating the greatest distance from the wireless router. As such, 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi has too short a range as compared with the 2.4 GHz band. The ON/OFF and dim commands for lights do not require much in the amount of data sent per command, so, once again, the lower speed and usually slower 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band is all that is needed for these devices.
IoT is NOT a plot to take over the world. No conspiracy here!
This triple-pack works with the Wemo app for iOS to use the the Apple HomeKit, and with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. You can even use your voice to perform commands.
The first step is for me was to download the iOS app as suggested on the setup card packed with the plugs. Next, establish an account. Yes, this is a necessary step to personalize the experience for your particular interests.
For example, the extensive options allow for simple manual ON/Off commands all the way through and including multipart routines. All operations may be performed remotely from anywhere in the world.
Step two is to plug in a Wemo Smart Plug.
Each plug has a QR Code, the same code as on the card packed in the box. Aiming my iPhone camera at each one provides the option to open the Home (Homekit) app for setup once a device is plugged in.
As I have learned with other software and devices, it is always a good plan to FIRST do any firmware updates as part of the connection process. This provides the latest glitch fixes. Without the most recent firmware, expect disappointment!
Step three is to connect to Wi-Fi through the app.
One by one, I plugged in lamps, followed prompts to find the addressable plug and assure the most current firmware by clicking on Firmware Update under Settings within the app.
With updates accomplished I was able to program ON and OFF times, “rules” for away and home. In the Away Mode, as with other smart plugs, randomized timing signals turn plugged in lights on and off to mimic lights on and off as if the user is home.
Unlike some other smart home products, these do not require a separate hub for communication. Each of the plugs, as well as other Wemo devices you may wish to purchase, communicate directly through your account in the app.
If this all seems too geeky for some, please do not despair! If you can follow the few step-by-step prompts and remember to do the firmware update FIRST, these smart plugs should work as expected.
Belkin Wemo Smart Plugs come with Belkin’s three-year limited warranty.

Excellent plugs!......after a phone call

Now my 5 star is on the plugs themselves. Work great and are excellent!
If on the overall experience and frustrations, then 3.5.
1st off, these little guys are small and compact leaving a small footprint. They do not block the outlets as I initially thought they would, so props to WEMO!
So after opening the box revealing the magical 3 outlets, there is a simple instructions of "download the app to set up!" Well.......that's not so simple. After DLing the app and plugging in the 3 plugs, I created an account and started to set up the plugs. Super easy, just find the right product and go. It initially found all 3 on the 1st go and when I tap any of the 3 the app crashes and hangs. 2 days of solid frustration.
Then while on the phone with customer service (omg by the way, 50 min call because the rep stayed on the line ALL THE WAY TO THE END and was super awesome to talk to was the definition of customer service), I got a walk through on how to finally get these guys to work.
So if you have problems setting up, try this to save yourself an hour or two.
-Go to your WIFI settings and change your wifi to the plug itself! (yes you log into the plug).
-Once connected do not select save wifi settings.
-On the next screen it will ask to search for your home wifi settings and connect that way.
-Then once that is done it'll save the wifi settings for your home network and work!
-Repeat for all the plugs.
Now the above is if you use 5ghz. On 2.4 you "should" be fine. I don't know, I use a mesh 5ghz home network.
Using the app is straight forward once all is set up. It's literally a power button to turn on or off the plug. Yup. Magic.
I use mine to control my living room lamps and workout equipment.
And yes of course, there is more to the app then on and off. You can set timers and schedules, but I am old fashion and just turn stuff on or off when I use them or not.

These Belkin Wemo smart plugs are a relatively fool-proof way to add some minor home automation and customization to anything that plugs into a standard outlet. Despite a couple of hiccups that I'll get into below, the Wemo plugs are easy to set up and use, and provide the really simple (yet satisfying) pleasure of home voice control.
Having used some of the first generation of wifi smart plugs, I am pleasantly surprised and impressed with the new Wemo plugs in this 3-pack kit. These plugs activate quickly, and getting them registered and customized within the Wemo app is a straightforward process that takes about 5 minutes for all three plugs from start to finish.
Once activated and named, it is also fairly simple to add them as a group within the Google Home app and add the group to a voice command. One hiccup I encountered happened right after this process, as once the plugs were recognized by Google home, they all became "offline" and unable to be controlled by the app. I had to go into the Wemo app and manually reset and rename them for Google Home to finally get it right.
Once the plugs functioning properly, you can set up routines, with voice commands like "turn on the lights"/"turn off the lights" and add the group of plugs to the routine, specifying that they should be turned on/off at the command. It's intuitive and easy to set up for someone with an affinity for these kinds of things, but may pose a challenge if you haven't yet delved into the world of Google Home routines. Still, despite having set these up correctly, the other hiccup I've encountered is having the plugs not work with the voice commands. When I said "turn off the lights" to the Google Assistant, it said "Can't connect to Wemo right now." The Wemo app itself worked fine to turn the plugs off. It's only happened once, and I'm hoping it won't happen very often in the future.
Another great feature of these plugs is the ability to turn them on and off from anywhere with an internet connection. They don't just work when you're connected to your home network.
My only other comment about these Wemo plugs has to do with their size. Compared to older versions of the Wemo plugs, the new version (model # WSP080) is about half the size, fitting with a margin of about half an inch side-to-side within a standard wall outlet plate, and leaving enough room for another plug to be added above or below the Wemo. Compared to older, larger smart plugs from companies like TP-Link (which take up almost an entire outlet plate), this is an impressively compact package.
In all, I'd recommend these plugs to anyone who wants to control multiple lamps or devices with a single voice command through their Google Home, Apple HomeKit, or Alexa app. I haven't yet played with scheduling within the Wemo app, but I suspect that will be a very nice feature if I ever leave the house for long periods of time. it certainly promises to be a lot more user friendly than some of the more complicated manual and digital vacation timer plugs I've used in the past.

What a nightmare to set up: completely impossible to get going on homekit with an IOS device alone. The firmware that ships with these fail to set up properly. I finally had to bring out an old android phone to set up and get firmware up to date with the wemo app, then i can go to the wemo app in iOS and then and only then add to homekit.
These salvage three stars though because of a very reasonable price, solid wifi connectivity, and native homekit support allowing my Apple TV to be my smart hub. Once setup, they seem reliable and easy resetup later in ios without the android device since the firmware is upgraded.
I'd recommend only if you have an android device laying around to upgrade and are willing to jump through the firmware upgrade hoops. Then price and homekit support makes it worth it.

Hi, iridium130m,
Setting up the Wemo Smart WiFi Plug using an iOS device should be simply as it natively supports HomeKit. However, if you need assistance with your Wemo devices, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected], and share more details with the link to this review for our reference.

I purchased this as part of a bundle, so I wasn't directly looking to buy a smart plug. I have a Wemo smart wall switch that I bought about a year ago and have been very happy with it. As such, I was anticipating that the smart plug would be of equal quality.
So far, so good. I like the compact size. In less than 5 minutes, it was easy to connect to WiFi and add to the Apple Home app. I have had no issues with it dropping off the WiFi network or anything else.
The one feature that would be nice, would for it to have a power monitoring feature. Having said this, it is a basic product for a very good price.

If you're trying to make your appliances or a lamp smarter then this 3-pack is a really great value. When I purchased these they were about $50 for the 3-pack, while an individual plug was going for $25 or so. Like I said earlier, great value! These are easy to set up through the Wemo app and works with Alexa, Google Assistant. and Siri (Apple Homekit). I always look for plugs that work on all 3 major voice assistants and this definitely does.
Quality is good and they are much smaller than the previous generation plugs.
