Nice TV for the price I paid

I was on a budget, and was looking for something under $300. Found this TV for $200 on Cyber Monday and was thrilled. Nice picture, but some shows can be a bit dark when watching during the day. Sound is good. Only thing I did notice is that when I press a button, sometimes it doesn’t take it and i have to press it again.

Gave me a scare, but it's good

    Posted .

Just got it yesterday and mounted it on my wall. I was able to lift and mount it alone so it's not too heavy of a TV. It looks great and the sounds is decent enough for a TV. I have a sounds system to use with it anyway, so that's not a concern. When I first connected it to my computer through an HDMI cord, the TV would not recognize the source. My computer recognized the TV but the TV did not display anything from the computer. It worked on my PS3 though, using an HDMI. After messing around a bit and calling the useless Westinghouse customer service, I found the option in the settings I needed to adjust. It works fine after that with all HDMI connections. I got it on sale for $200 and I think it's worth what I paid for it. I got the warranty too just in case. I would not pay full price for this thing. The smart features are good and work well, no complaint here. The user interface isn't as laggy as I expected from a Smart TV. I will still use Netflix and YouTube through my computer, but it's nice to have the option there I guess. I'm happy with it otherwise. Just a couple things: I don't like the the red LED light for the IR sensor remains on when the TV is off. No big deal though, at least it's not on while the TV is on. Another thing is the refresh rate. On such a large screen, and being used to 120Hz on my computer monitors, it's clear that the refresh rate is low. I can only get 30Hz when connected to my computer. I don't mind it for now. It also seems to have gotten better when I connected it to HDMI 3, which is an ARC(Audio Return Channel) port. Not sure if it was my imagination but the latency in response seemed to have decreased when I used that instead. Everything else is good for now.

    Great Tv but...sound?

The tv picture quality is good once you change the color settings. Sound is not so good, it probably needs a sound system to make it sound better. Overall it is a good buy for a 50” Tv at $199.99! Four stars just because of the sound. Once you calibrate it’s good. My husband likes the overall picture while playing Red Dead Redemption on his Xbox. Sorry but my cell phone camera doesn’t do the tv picture quality justice.

I bought 2 of these 50' on sale for cyber Monday $199.00 each I was nervous because at that price something must be wrong. Delivery was delayed by a few days but once it arrived and I hooked 5hem up I could. O5 be happier. The picture quality. Sound everything about this TV is great. It's my first smart TV and 5he biggest I've personally owned but I would recommend to anyone. It's a great TV looks great not only on shoes and blur ray but also for ps4 gaming.

The picture is stunning for a cheap tv. We bought this a couple weeks before Black Friday. We were in need of a new TV as our old tv was broken. The tv was easy to set up, especially with xfinity. The sound is great, it comes out of back speakers. Overall a great tv at a great price.

Bought this as a gift, amazing price. Picture quality is crystal clear, easy set up. Worked great with youtubetv. I did buy a 2 year warranty because of some of the reviews and it was super affordable. Will review again after 6 months. Very pleased with purchase.

Fantastic color, perfect sound, and easy, user-friendly remote! I can't find anything wrong with it. I originally bought it as a present for my step son, because it was on sale, but wound up keeping it for myself and getting him a different one... It is truly a fantastic purchase!

I picked this up for a great price during cyber Monday. The picture is great; I am pleased with the tv function. What I do not like is how limited the smart hub is. You cannot download other apps that are not factory installed: no hulu, no xfinity, etc... I should have looked into the specs more before buying; that's my own fault. So now i just use a chromecast on it and it's all good. Overall a good tv and if I had to do it all over again I'd probably still buy it knowing the smart hub isn't great. If you're still reading this good for you. Your attention span is definitely better than mine. I don't usually leave reviews on stuff I've purchased but best buy keeps emailing me so here I am soaking in the bath tub writing the longest review I have ever written. I don't really have much going on today.. Well at least for the next hour or so, but then I have to leave for work. I've always wondered about those people who leave long friggin reviews. It's like who the frig has time for that! Well now i know.. I do. I'm one of those long review people now and there's NO GOING BACK...

    One warning

We haven't had cable in 5+ years. We have been streaming on mostly Roku devices and Sony Blu-ray players. I "assumed" all Smart TVs had almost unlimited channel-apps you could use. This TV ONLY has 7 channels you can stream. You can't download any additional. No Hulu or Prime, so this TV will be for display use only of our streaming device. Great value and picture though, so I give it 4 Stars.

Good picture and sound, Terrible technology

I bought this Tv thinking I would be set. Pros: The picture quality is great and clear. The sound is good too and so far I have never increased the volume past 12 (out of 100) and it is enough to even hear in the adjacent room. For a 50" TV its light weight and I can move it alone. It looks kind of nice with slim black trims but nothing fancy! Cons: Tv has very limited apps and you can not add anything to it so basically useless.. That should not be called a smart tv. The location of HDMI ports are so bad that if you try to connect a laptop or Roku stick/Chromecast/ etc. the HDMI insert is going to bend and break. The remote control doesn't function well (I tried multiple times on Netflix. It's not the app but the up/down buttons on the remote that take 27tries!). You can not set the tv contrast/light while something is playing which is a pain especially when you want it to be darker at night or like a cinema. You're stuck with one setting. You can not easily set a sleep timer (no such button). I am returning this TV and getting a different one. For almost the same price, I can get much better options.

At the right price, it's a good intro to 4K.

    Posted .

Once dialed in a bit, it's capable of some pretty jaw-dropping visuals. Just don't expect too much from solid colored screens across the entire panel. It has the usual un-even illumination in these cases, which are common to panels at the lower end. It also doesn't have nearly the viewing angle of the more costly sets. It's definitely not for the "cord cutter" who wants a ton of viewing options built right into the set. That said, I had 4k Youtube content streaming to it wirelessly, and Netflix seemed to work fine at 1080p. I don't have a 4k subscription at Netflix, so I can't speak to how well that works, but I suspect it will be ok. It seems to take all of the internal processing power to handle these tasks, so menu navigation suffers while streaming, and you can't adjust the TV settings while they are playing (doing so with an HDMI source is fast and painless). But even a PS4 isn't able to stream in 4K, so it's best to consider these options as a way to get you watching 4K content "out of the box". If you want a better experience with more options, you'll want to use it with a better media streaming device. One reviewer indicated that it's a poor choice for entertainment, but I disagree with that sentiment. There are better options out there, if you can afford it, but clearly this set was designed for a price point, and it checks most of the boxes for the fundamentals. Sound is way better than many of the other lower-tier offerings, the adjustable backlight is almost too bright at the highest levels, up-scaling of 1080p content is very good, and for gamers, the input lag seems to be very small. I was able to purchase this set for only $200, and I'd go as far as to say it's worth more than that. So if you can get one for under $300, and you aren't expecting "top-of-the-line for peanuts", then you'll likely be pleased with the purchase.

Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed.

For an entry level 4K television with HDR, I am very happy with the product. I have owned this television for about 1.5 yrs and have not experienced a dead pixel, decrease speaker quality or any other issues assumed in a budget product. There is the question of processing issues over time, but I’ve used a 4K Fire Stick (fantastic product) for the life of the product hence eliminating the need for app boot-up from the television processor. The processor is only focused on image. Image processing is strong with no issues at all. Expect minimal range regarding HDR for it is indeed a budget product. I do notice the lack of the lighting dynamics during some dark scenes, but that is expected at this price point. The television includes adjustment for temperature for those with sensitive eyes. I used the television via 4K HDMI to play Zelda BOTW (video game) from my laptop (HP Spectre 15) upscaled to 4K. This game is very colorful by default, but the contrasting difference is noticeable between the Spectre screen and the television. I certainly prefer playing games on my laptop for the higher dynamic range and the contrast. Speaker quality is fine, although I recommend an external output for a large room to improve clarity and volume. With all of this said, I rate it 5 stars for it is a television with longevity at an excellent price when compared to the competitors. Keep in mind that this is a budget product, rating a television 1 star Just because it was defective is not justified for (especially in this segment) the probability of faulty products is higher than a premium product due to higher volume and part quality. For this, it is a question of customer service in which I have never had to contact, thus I do not include this factor in my rating. Purchase the 2 year geek squad coverage for an added net due to the probability in this segment. For my needs as a television used exclusively via 4K Fire Stick to watch films and television In my bedroom, it is an excellent product for the price I paid. It will serve as a great point of reference for future television purchases no matter market segment you may move on to. This was a great entry into the market. I will certainly be moving on to a brand with goodwill for my next purchase.
