Replacement is OK; support needs help

This purchase was actually an even-exchange replacement of a TV won as a holiday door prize. Fortunately the person who placed the TV in the door prize pool had a proof of purchase allowing us to make the return/exchange after we had installed and played the TV. The original TV went on the fritz after running OK at first, using off the air signals. But after I had played a DVD for about an hour, the TV display went blank, though there was still audio. Customer (manufacturer) and Best Buy support were dicey. I was able to reach a call center the first two or three times I used the manufacturer’s support line, and their ultimate advice was just to take it back to Best Buy and work out an exchange. Later calls to the manufacturer support line went to a voice mail, and I couldn’t determine whether it was because it was not working hours or they had simply shut down, leaving me with an uneasy feeling. Also, their customer support did not have an email address. Since it was past Best Buy’s extended Christmas return period by the time I tried to exchange it, Best Buy originally wanted a sales receipt, even though I explained it was a Christmas door prize which we had only recently installed it. It took more phone calls and a return trip to Best Buy (a different location), before the exchange could be made. I purchased the extended warranty for the replacement TV, since the door prize model gave us cause for concern about reliability.
But since installing the replacement TV, it has performed without a problem. After the learning curve of understanding how to maneuver through the Roku menu and using the tiny Roku remote control, things seem OK. The small size of the remote and the placement of the volume control and mute buttons on the side causes me to mute the TV every time I try to change the volume. An advantage of the Roku remote is that its signal is “wide angle” rather than directed through a small lens. So it’s not necessary to “point and aim” a small remote lens at the sensor on the front of the TV. Just hold the remote up and face the wide lens to the front of the TV and use the remote buttons. Fortunately also, one is able to download a Roku remote app on one’s smartphone, and use the app as a substitute remote, and all the buttons are on the screen of the phone, and the app uses wi-fi to connect to the TV, so no pointing is needed.
As for the TV, it does have a headphone jack on the back, and I had high expectations of using it to watch programs without the sound disturbing my significant other. However, I found that I needed to boost the volume extremely high, just to make it audible. With the TV speakers, a volume of 10 is adequate for a room and 20 to 30 is enough to be heard in an adjoining room. With the earbuds plugged in, I had to boost the volume to the mid-40s (on a 100-point scale) just to hear adequately, and volume in the earbuds did not increase noticeably as I pushed the volume higher. I also have yet to test the 4K capability of this device since I don’t have a 4K disc player, nor have I yet tried streaming a 4K video. We have watched streaming video (HD or SD) which performs adequately. Of course a good internet connection should be used.
When I installed the TV I did not use the metal “feet” that came with the set. Instead I installed it using a tabletop stand that raises the TV about 10 inches and allows the TV to swivel about 15 degrees (about 10 inches) to the left or right. I put the TV on top of an old entertainment center designed for a 27-inch 4:3 TV (which was big, back in the day).
Compared to its heyday, Westinghouse is not a big player currently in the flat panel TV market. The Roku features and 4K display capabilities, combined with screen size and an attractive price point (below $300 at Black Friday prices) make this TV appealing to those who want more for their buck while keeping an eye on their pocketbook. What would really boost its appeal would be better-than-average customer support, by phone and by email.

I am pleased with the tv. It was easy to set up and use. I was very surprised by the amount of availablitiy with Roku as far as free tv, movies, and many apps for additional viewing choices. The only inconvenient thing is the volume and mute buttons are on the side of the remote and are hit unintentionally very often.

This TV is light weight about 32 pounds, large, nice viewing, good sound. Easy user friendly set up instructions. Works easiest if you already have a roku account, but that is not necessary (you can register for one at the time of set up).
No need to mount, easy install to 2 feet attached at base but you will need a screw driver.
The remote has Netflix, Disney plus, hulu, sling buttons on it for fast access. Also comes with batteries for the remote.
Plan on mounting this to wall. Will update if allowable. Also good value for price.

My first LARGE TV! It's a great experience!

I bought this TV last year on Black Friday as a gift for my mother. Her bedroom is rather large and with the 32 inch TV she had, she could not see any of the writing that might show up on the news.
With the reduced price of larger TV's I was thrilled to jump on this one and get it for her.
After I got it, I had "TV size" envy and purchased a larger 58 inch TV for myself a few months later and selected the SAME brand even without the Black Friday sale advantage.
Since then, one of my friends purchased two more of these, another friend purchased one also, at these most recent low price offers based on my review of how good this TV looks, sounds and also that has ROKU built in.
In fact this purchase was FOR my friend. I picked it up and delivered it to her - and she paid me back for it, since I happened to be at the store, and she doesn't own a car.
Going from a 32 inch to this size is really exciting! I watched 3 plays on PBS the first few days after getting it. The size and clarity of the picture really enhances the viewing of live performances. The other night I was in my home office watching CBS and Star Trek on a 24 inch TV in that room.
A few minutes into the program I went down to the livingroom to see the show on the 58 inch screen and it was so astoundingly different and so much better I vowed not to watch anything like that again here at home on a tiny TV again. It was like being in the movies!
This purchase actually was one for another person based on my recommendation from last year!
Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes and already did several times!
There are TV's out there this size that are more costly with better features if you want to pay more. Value and quality here is at a very high ratio.

My wife wanted a new TV as the plasma was now old and the sound started to rattle when up high. We picked the Westinghouse as it's a well-known brand and the features were great. We think it's an awesome deal for the price. It's lightweight and was easy to hang on the wall for a 50 inch. The audio and video is great too, The picture is very clear and only needs to be turned up to no more than nine. Roku setup is fast and easy.

I've owned this TV for about 6 weeks now. Overall, the picture is crisp and I have not had any issues. The roku platform is so easy to use.
You would want to buy this if you are looking at upgrading to 4k or looking for a mid-budget tv that gives you solid quality. This TV is a notch above the low end budget TV's in terms of quality, but for a price that is competitive with them.

This Westinghouse 50" 4K Roku TV is an excellent buy. It is easy to setup and this price is a lot lower than other similar TVs. I've had no problems with the set. The sound maybe low for some people with hearing problems, but that can be corrected with a sound bar. I strongly recommend this TV with its low cost and high quality!

I bought this tv for black friday $149 sale. Had never used it before and didn't find many reviews, so a little worried. It has great picture quality, very easy to use and set up and the sound is wonderful! Would definitely purchase this again! Only complaint is the sound and mute being on the side of the remote, so accidentally hit it quite often.

Value for your buck ! Got this bad boy on a black friday sale at a very good price which where I will base my opinion of the product.
For the price that I payed it a 5 star tv. Quality of a 4k tv is spectacular as well as the built in roku make it more than convinient for the family.

This is a great tv for the price that it is and being a 50 in it was well worth the buy. The other competitors are way expensive. If you just need a tv that I big and had good picture quality then this is a great product. It also having Roku is a plus. A 4K tv with Roku for the price is unbeatable.

Bought this tv on black friday deal of the day. So for $150, you can't go wrong with it. Tv was bought as a present for my parents who hadn't upgraded their tv in over 10 years. They used a Roku box so I was glad this one is a Roku tv. Out if the box, the tv is very easy to set up. Four screws hold in the two legs and the tv sits high enough for even an older blu ray player to sit underneath. Sound quality from the built in speakers is ok. It can get very loud. Picture quality didn't take much to tweak. All video streaming options automatically go to 4k and any available HDR sources. If it was my personal tv I would spend close to a couple hours trying to calibrate the screen, but since it's for my parents I just did a couple changes that really weren't very dramatic. Downfalls are the volume and mute buttons on the side of the remote like other reviewers have mentioned, and the fact you can't just plug it in and start watching any sources you want without going through a Roku account setup.
I was very tempted to buy another and put it up in my garage, but don't need 50" there.

The only negative comment I can come up with is the poor location of the volume controls on the remote. They’re on the side rather than the top and it’s easy to accidentally touch them when handling the remote. Other than that, this TV has a good picture and decent sound. Set up was very easy.

The tv was much better than I thought it would. The picture quality is good. Very easy to program. I wish the remote was better but I guess it’s just the way Roku remotes are. The price was decent too so I’m very pleased with this tv I brought as a gift for my daughter.

I will buy nothing but Roku tv's anymore. They are the easiest to use and Westinghouse is a great brand. Always guaranteed to get the apps you want. I bought an internet tv before and found out that you couldn't in anyway get the hulu app on it, somehow wasn't compatible for the app. I had to buy a Roku box to add to the internet tv, stupid. Great pic and sound on this and it has leveling to even out the sound hike in-between commercials and shows.

Great value. The black Friday price was so good, we bought 2! Westinghouse could improve the TV sound as it is a bit tin-y but the picture is good and Roku is super easy to navigate. Overall super satisfied with our purchase.
