This thing has everything but progressive (inverter) technology. Otherwise, it’s hard to believe how well it works. The “Dinner Plate” button has no idea what I put in there. You don’t enter a power level or a heating time. You could put something frozen in it or just lukewarm, but the Dinner Plate button goes though its several heat/sensor cycles until the food is hot. No burnt perimeters around the food, no burnt spots, no boiling, just nice hot food, every single time. I also love that the time-out chime stope when you open the door (my Panasonic inverter at the office continues is ear shattering 5 chimes regardless of when you open the door). And the chimes on this one are more like a little arpeggio, so if you’re tone-deaf at one frequency, another frequency in the tune will catch your attention! The non-stick surface inside keeps its word. All splatter comes off with a quick, firm wipe. No sticking to the wall, no need to use any abrasive to clean it. The middle shelf is an extremely useful convenience, just remember that the extra food that the oven can handle, thanks to that shelf, absorbs its own microwave energy which increases the time required to heat everything. But best of all is that it’s so darn quiet during the heating cycle. I never like the relatively low light of any microwave oven, so I chose to rig a splitter from the existing bulb socket so that I can add 2 bulbs instead of just one. And since the socket can handle up to 40W of electricity, I use 2 “60W” LED bulbs which only draw 12W but are several times brighter then the single 40W that comes with it! Anyway, good riddance to my $648 Samsung which lasted 3 years before I had to replace the front door for $140 (since the touch panel is integrated into the door) and then the door just failed again 2 years after that. Better to buy one at $269 that has more features, is far quieter, and has far better reviews by thousands of customers. Go for it!

I've had this microwave about a month. It replaced a 12-year-old Whirlpool which was slowly dying, so before it quit altogether, I decided to replace it. I went with Whirlpool again because I have had good luck with their kitchen appliances, and they are reasonably priced. With the exception of a dishwasher that only lasted about 5 years, the Whirlpools I have owned (either with the Whirlpool brand name or Kenmore made by Whirlpool) have lasted a long time. This microwave has all the features I want, the controls are familiar and intuitive to me, and I liked the clean lines. When opening and closing the door it has a very solid feel, in comparison to Whirlpool's less expensive models and other brands. So far, in terms of performance, it has exceeded my expectations. Obviously, there have been improvements in microwaves during the past 12 years. This is quieter, the fan works better, the range light is brighter, and food cooks very evenly. Just as with the model in the store, the door has a very solid feel. However, a few days ago I noticed that the part that contains control panel on the right hand side was slightly loose. The only reason I noticed it was that I was standing to the right of the microwave and wanted to adjust the fan speed. When I pushed the button from that angle, the whole panel moved a little, which it should not do. It's not a huge problem and the microwave continues to function just fine, but I went into the store to check the floor model, and it does the same thing. I asked a salesperson about it, and he told me to call Geek Squad, which I plan to do, but I think it's a design issue. Strangely, the less expensive Whirlpool model does not have this design issue. So I'm not sure yet about long-term build quality. Because the part that moves contains the control panel, it is possible that steam from food being cooked on the stove could get in and perhaps damage the control panel. I will get Geek Squad to come out and take a look at it, but wanted to alert shoppers to check this out when looking for a microwave. Other than this possible problem, I recommend it.

We bought this to replace a GE microwave, that couldn’t keep up with stove top exhaust. I actually liked the GE a lot except for the smoke alarm going off every time you cooked a steak. This Whirlpool OTR is big. It sticks out further and hangs down lower. The inside is huge. The unit is loud when in use and the fan is loud when on high. The GE was a lot quieter. Although it didn’t suck out the exhaust well. This one is better but 400cfm fan on high is noisy. The panel control is fine except there is no- push 1 for 1- minute,2 for 2 etc. you just push the # of minutes . ie; 1:00 for 1 minute. We hit this on a Black Friday sale , btw best time to buy price wise. The store was out and they shipped it to my house for free. There is some mileage restrictions from the store. All in all I like it. I didn’t opt for the wireless app for my phone or the convection model. The unit is heavy enough w/o all the other goodies. All in all it’s good so far. It exhausts and heats up good . Albeit noisy for the price it’s a good buy.

This microwave is quiet and seems to work well for the few times I have used it to heat up leftovers. I am extremely disappointed in the stove top light. I went from a hood with 2 halogen lights with 2 settings to a tiny incandescent bulb that is located way in the back. There are 2 settings as well and the night light setting may as well not exist as the higher setting is easily as light as a night light and not much more!!!! The stove top is barely lit. I now have to turn on the ceiling lights to cook and I hate ceiling lights!! I usually don’t complain this much but I am getting older and it is much harder to see in dim light!

Definitely a Best Buy: Quiet Whirlpool Microwave

Product is exactly as described online -- very quiet and high quality! There is an interior light unlike a handful of reviews have indicated. Light over stove is perfect in my opinion unlike another review indicated. BEST ADVICE: Be sure to use the paper template to measure exactly where the bracket should be drilled. Second, glass of course is NOT finger print resistant and stainless steel does show fingerprints a bit. Last, the metal shelf per instructions shouldn't remain in the microwave when in use so I'm still trying to figure out its purpose. I need to read the manual of course to get this answer. Bottom line, excellent product and I would highly recommend its purchase to even my family and friends.

We had an older Whirlpool over the stove microwave which worked ok but became sensitive to the door not always shutting. Replaced with the basic Whirlpool over the stove unit and decided to self install. On opening package, saw the door was not aligned. Installed unit and it would not run. Contacted Whirlpool, who sent out tech guys on 3 different trips, ordering parts, etc. After 3 weeks of frustration, returned unit to Best Buy and they didn't have my cheapo model so upgraded to this deluxe (open box) for same price. It works, it's quiet, has 4 not noisey fan speeds (be sure to read instructions on relocating fan if you are self installing). Love this unit, not too impressed with service people (who were not from Best Buy).

Five days before Thanksgiving, my 12-yr old microwave gave up the ghost (I know that's a good, long run). Since I was hosting Thanksgiving dinner, I was in a hurry to purchase one and get it installed. After matching up measurements and design, with reviews and price, this was my first choice. Although it wasn't in the store for me to look at, I took the chance, ordered this one and paid for it. It was delivered and installed the morning before the "big" day. I have been very pleased; the ease of use, the design, the price, all of it. I use it at least a dozen times a day. Am counting on it performing well for the next 10 years!

This microwave was easy to install (new overhead install). It was light to lift and once installed very secure. I love the sensor cooking as I can put in a bag of popcorn and not worry that it will burn if I leave it in too long (like my old unit). The auto defrost works amazing as it defrosts frozen hamburger and it comes out like fresh ground beef, my old unit would sometimes cook part of the meat. Love it! Would recommend. The light is not real usable as it is located in back of unit and not real bright (am gonna try with different bulb). Fan is a bit load on high setting.

This was a replacement for a LG microwave we have had for 3 years. This definitely has more interior space, but with caution I tell everyone that mounting it yourself will require some skill. This microwave has more height than a conventional microwave. It is about 1 inch lower than the last one. So I had to trim the backsplash tile and remount the back bracket that comes with this microwave. Best Buy was good about delivery but mounting was gonna cost an extra $150. So do measure the old microwave and the space on the wall before considering any new microwave. Whirlpool overall has had great reviews.

Our last over-the-range microwave only lasted a little over 2 years. The matching fridge and oven work great but that microwave never seemed to have the cooking power that it claimed to have from the beginning. This time I did a little research and decided for the price this was the best microwave for us. It works great. Mostly we just heat and defrost foods in the microwave oven and it does that just fine. The led display is a slightly different shade of blue but from a distance you don't notice too much of a difference in the overall style of the microwave oven.

I have had this microwave for 3 months. It replaced an almost identical unit that was only 18 months old and died. The PROS are the features, fast coking times, control options, and appearance. The CON is the big size causes more overhang of the stove below and steam from cooking condenses on (and in) the microwave. I believe this contributed to the short life of the first one. Now I keep the exhaust fan running whenever cooking on the stove below causes steam. This reduces the effect , but does not eliminate it. Also, the fan is very LOUD at every speed. Hope this one lasts more than 18 months. I'm used to getting 4 or 5 years from a microwave.

Have had Frigidaire. It worked great for about two weeks .. numerous repairs for same issue. Until it caught fire! That’s right! Fan from the inside out. Lucky my house is still here. Got a fabulous looking Samsung! Another joke. The door melted! I mean the bottom of the door literally had a huge almost drip like plastic meltdown!? Then I got this Whirlpool. Wow! Sensor cooking is fantastic! What microwave make it’s own popcorn? This one does! Even the beeps are friendly. More of a chime instead of annoying beeps that wake the dead. As of now, Whirlpool is my go to brand!

We had to replace our old microwave of 10 years and decided to stick with the Whirlpool brand. This model was easy to install, and looked great with the hidden vent on top. Easy to use, with extra large turntable. After 4 months of ownership the door latching mechanism broke. We called Best Buy for help, and they instructed us to contact Whirlpool warranty. A technician came out and had to order a small plastic part, then it was fixed. Took 3 weeks. Still working without issue. Only complaint is that it doesn’t have express cook buttons like our prior model, just the +30 second function.

    Recall this Whirlpool. Door issue

    irontyson02

I have read so many reviews of customers having the same issue. When you close the door, the microwave does not recognize that it is closed. So it prompts you to close the door then press start. Apparently you have to get a repair person come out and fix a sensor. Seems like Whirlpool would own up to their mistake with this product and cover this issue even after the 12 month warranty expires. I will never buy Whirlpool and will tell friends and family to stay away from them.

We had trouble with the installation instructions and the clips fell into the machine. After reading online about this problem we decided that it was a possible manufacturing flaw, poor instructions, incorrect template and not really our fault. We returned the machine to Bestbuy. They allowed us to return it with full refund and we purchased a similar in-stock microwave they had that day. We wanted similar to match the other new appliances we had purchased. The instructions were not much better with the second machine, but after much studying we were able to do it.

So far, I love this microwave. It does everything you need it to and more. Love the little chime at the end of the cycle instead of that annoying beep with most microwaves, and how it will continue to remind you there is something in there until you take it out. The only drawback for me is the fact that you can't change the % of the wattage like I could with my old one. I could soften ice cream on a lower % and it would come out perfect. With this one, it has a soften ice cream setting, but constantly turns it to liquid. Otherwise, it's great.

This is your typical microwave. Works great, looks great and has a few nice features I expected and one I didn't. The two-setting light is nice for cooking and for a night light. The 4 diff. fan speeds is awesome. It cleans the house out well on high which is like a jet engine and still works great on low, which almost not noticeable even standing right next to it. It also has an autofan option which is awesome. If the area on top of the stove (below the microwave) gets to a certain temperature, the fan automatically comes on! Very nice.

Microwave is very quiet and heats food fast. Price for this 2.1 cu ft was the same as the smaller unit (including overall size) so an excellent deal! Door hinge design keeps the door swing within the width dimension allowing the unit to be mounted flush to a left wall or deep cabinet. My one wish is the keypad start button is labeled “Start” as other keypads on the same brand are. (It would be nice if “Start” was colored green too). Can’t review light and fan operation yet as unit is sitting on counter awaiting cabinet for mounting.

This model was purchased to replace a similar unit that was installed in my home when it was built. That original unit lasted through 4 years of typical usage but started having problems with the door closed sensor. Apparently this is a common issue with units built around that time. The new model was a simple drop in replacement, using the same bracket and mounting points. It's a bit larger inside than the old one and has a few more features. Working great so far, I hope it lasts longer than the last one.

This microwave has a lot of space inside. The fan has 4 speed settings and works nice and quiet compared to my old one. To do a quick minute, you have to enter 1, 0, 0, and start. My old one only needed the number 1 pushed and it starts automatically. The interior is gray, wish it was gloss white. I was scared to buy it at first because someone in the reviews said there was no light inside. There actually is light inside the microwave. The light under the microwave is bright enough for me as well.
