Customers are impressed with the ease of use, quiet operation, and generous size of this 2.1 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave. Many appreciate the microwave's performance and modern design, while some found the light and display challenging to see. A few users noted issues with the control panel and timer functionality. Overall, the positive feedback on ease of use and quiet operation outweighs the negative comments regarding specific features.

A bit larger than the one it replaced, but love the greater capacity, the efficiency, and the fingerprint resistant finish. It is relatively quiet and very easy to use-user friendly. Never burns the evening’s popcorn!

Microwave is very quiet and heats food fast. Price for this 2.1 cu ft was the same as the smaller unit (including overall size) so an excellent deal! Door hinge design keeps the door swing within the width dimension allowing the unit to be mounted flush to a left wall or deep cabinet. My one wish is the keypad start button is labeled “Start” as other keypads on the same brand are. (It would be nice if “Start” was colored green too).
Can’t review light and fan operation yet as unit is sitting on counter awaiting cabinet for mounting.

This thing has everything but progressive (inverter) technology. Otherwise, it’s hard to believe how well it works. The “Dinner Plate” button has no idea what I put in there. You don’t enter a power level or a heating time. You could put something frozen in it or just lukewarm, but the Dinner Plate button goes though its several heat/sensor cycles until the food is hot. No burnt perimeters around the food, no burnt spots, no boiling, just nice hot food, every single time. I also love that the time-out chime stope when you open the door (my Panasonic inverter at the office continues is ear shattering 5 chimes regardless of when you open the door). And the chimes on this one are more like a little arpeggio, so if you’re tone-deaf at one frequency, another frequency in the tune will catch your attention! The non-stick surface inside keeps its word. All splatter comes off with a quick, firm wipe. No sticking to the wall, no need to use any abrasive to clean it. The middle shelf is an extremely useful convenience, just remember that the extra food that the oven can handle, thanks to that shelf, absorbs its own microwave energy which increases the time required to heat everything. But best of all is that it’s so darn quiet during the heating cycle. I never like the relatively low light of any microwave oven, so I chose to rig a splitter from the existing bulb socket so that I can add 2 bulbs instead of just one. And since the socket can handle up to 40W of electricity, I use 2 “60W” LED bulbs which only draw 12W but are several times brighter then the single 40W that comes with it! Anyway, good riddance to my $648 Samsung which lasted 3 years before I had to replace the front door for $140 (since the touch panel is integrated into the door) and then the door just failed again 2 years after that. Better to buy one at $269 that has more features, is far quieter, and has far better reviews by thousands of customers.
Go for it!

I have had this almost 4 months and keep finding things I love about it. So easy to clean with a quick wipe. Strong fan with four levels. The best for cooking frozen veggies with the Vegetable or Steam button sensor. My vegetables were never real hot when putting the steam bag in my old microwave. Now I follow the laminated guide sheet, take the veggies out of bag and put in micro-safe container with a small ramekin in middle with small amount of water. Cover with plastic wrap with small vent and use the Vegetable button. (or Steam button). The sensors determine how many veggies are in the container and the time to cook. When done, they are steaming hot and perfectly cooked. An option to add time if you need to. You select fresh, frozen, etc. Another feature I use a lot is Soften/Melt for butter or even ice cream, cheese, chocolate and more. The Defrost does fast work on frozen meats, etc.
Dinner Plate will reheat a meal on a plate. I have tried it but usually just set a time from past experience. The Dinner Plate seems to take longer. My former microwave had a horrible beep that kept beeping and for 2 years I kept saying "shut up", it was so annoying. Whirlpool has a nice little tune that fills the kitchen with cheer. It makes an amazing difference in my mood!
Many users have mentioned they miss the fast buttons they had before where you enter 3 for 3 minutes. With the Whirlpool you do have to enter 3.00 but I soon got used to it, as auto-selections mostly replace the need to use it. I did a huge amount of research prior to buying this microwave and was shocked to find so many people having to buy new microwaves after 2 or 2.5 years, no matter what brand. I was in this category myself, the former microwave lasting less than 3 years. So this time I did buy an extended warranty. I am so happy with this Whirlpool microwave and have even more things to try. Just keep the laminated instruction guide sheet in a nearby drawer and pull it out. You will soon be an expert on how to do it all!

Whirlpool put everything I could ask for in this one over the range microwave. First let’s talk about how beautiful it is, it’s black and stainless steel and when they mean it’s finger resistant they mean it I have tried. I love the ease of use with the control pad with all the setting and power levels you can select. The timer read out is bright, and the sound it uses to let you know it’s done isn’t annoying.
So far I have cooked pot pies, TV dinners, hamburgers, spaghetti sauce and meats, in it and they all came out perfect.

Just got this microwave installed. Looks beautiful and impressed with the fan that vents from the bottom. Our older microwave vented from the top and wasn’t as effective. It’s larger by 1.10 inches than our previous so had to pay extra for install through Best Buy. Always compare height for easier and standard pricing install.
Control panel is hard to read when dark either it doesn’t light up or we haven’t figured how to activate a background light.

We bought this to replace a GE microwave, that couldn’t keep up with stove top exhaust. I actually liked the GE a lot except for the smoke alarm going off every time you cooked a steak. This Whirlpool OTR is big. It sticks out further and hangs down lower. The inside is huge. The unit is loud when in use and the fan is loud when on high. The GE was a lot quieter. Although it didn’t suck out the exhaust well. This one is better but 400cfm fan on high is noisy. The panel control is fine except there is no- push 1 for 1- minute,2 for 2 etc. you just push the # of minutes . ie; 1:00 for 1 minute. We hit this on a Black Friday sale , btw best time to buy price wise. The store was out and they shipped it to my house for free. There is some mileage restrictions from the store. All in all I like it. I didn’t opt for the wireless app for my phone or the convection model.
The unit is heavy enough w/o all the other goodies. All in all it’s good so far. It exhausts and heats up good . Albeit noisy for the price it’s a good buy.

Five days before Thanksgiving, my 12-yr old microwave gave up the ghost (I know that's a good, long run). Since I was hosting Thanksgiving dinner, I was in a hurry to purchase one and get it installed. After matching up measurements and design, with reviews and price, this was my first choice. Although it wasn't in the store for me to look at, I took the chance, ordered this one and paid for it. It was delivered and installed the morning before the "big" day. I have been very pleased; the ease of use, the design, the price, all of it. I use it at least a dozen times a day. Am counting on it performing well for the next 10 years!

I bought the 2.1 cu. ft. version instead of the 1.6 or 1.9 cu. ft. versions. The footprint under the cabinet (above the stove) is functionally the same in all three sizes, but you get more space inside the 2.1 cu. ft. version. Attractive appliance and easy to keep clean.

This microwave was easy to install (new overhead install). It was light to lift and once installed very secure. I love the sensor cooking as I can put in a bag of popcorn and not worry that it will burn if I leave it in too long (like my old unit). The auto defrost works amazing as it defrosts frozen hamburger and it comes out like fresh ground beef, my old unit would sometimes cook part of the meat. Love it! Would recommend. The light is not real usable as it is located in back of unit and not real bright (am gonna try with different bulb). Fan is a bit load on high setting.

Microwave is very quiet and has nice features. The inside turn table is a big and the quality of the microwave is top notch. The installation instructions were a tad bit confusing but we figured them out. The only negative is that the light under the microwave is set back towards the back of the stove, whereas the Whirlpool microwave we replaced had it more centered, which was better because it lit up the stove top underneath a bit more evenly. Overall we're happy with our purchase!

Replaced a nearly 20 yr old unit - 1200 Watt. I don't think that one was functioning at 1200 W though, as this unit definitely has more power.
Only obvious issue is that for defrost it was fairly aggressive, cooking some once frozen chicken on the edges instead of thawing it. If I hadn't been watching it, I don't know what I would have ended up with after the posted 4 min that were left.
Fan works great and is not too loud even on the highest setting.
The High - Light could be brighter.
Surface seems pretty fingerproof. Unit has stayed pretty clean with quite a bit of use.
One thing I am not a fan of is the blue LEDs. The clock is hard to read from a distance, unlike the old green ones.

So far, this is a 5star product, but after a week, who knows? This was picked because Consumer Reports said it was the most reliable. (After 2 GE units lasting a combined 5 1/2 years reliable was a major goal.
Installation was MUCH easier than the GE units. It has a large capacity and is both faster and quieter than the GE. One drawback, it does not have a kitchen timer built in.

Very nice for mid-ranged pricing. This is much more quiet than my old one. It has a very nice array of options to choose from and is easy to use. The keypad is easy to navigate but it shows fingerprints on its shiny surface. Multi option for the fan which is very nice. Whirlpool did a nice job with this

Unit is quiet during operation. Nice control panel features but you cannot use control pad in low light as you cannot see it! The door is light and will be curious as to it's durability - feels cheap compared to the rest of the unit. Unit heats items up quicker than expected and heats fairly evenly. The lights both in and underneath are very good - lighting the control panel would have been a plus! Installation was straight forward, did it by myself. Would have been easier with another person helping. The interior is grey and cleans easily -would have preferred a smooth interior as this one is a rough texture. Overall, a very nice unit!
