    Bad condensation problem between doors

I love this refrigerator in all ways except there is a condensation problem between the door on the freezer side. Lots of water drips down to the grill on the bottom and then onto my wood laminate floor. I have to wipe away the water once or twice a day for fear of my floor being damaged from the water. Best Buy replaced the first defective unit but the replacement has exactly the same problem. I called Whirlpool who is sending a repairman to look at the problem. Best Buy gives me only two weeks after delivery to exchange for another brand, so I’m really pressed on what to do. Very difficult to get a comparable replacement in Hawaii.

Doors still misaligned after leveling screw on refrigerator door lifted to the maximum height. Best Buy tried to fix the issue by tilting the fridge back farther. Looks odd aesthetically leaning far back and the doors are still slightly off. Poor QC.

We like the look of this refrigerator and especially like the counter depth size. It fits our space much better than our older Whirlpool (which lasted 27 years!) I like the visibility of the clear shelves and drawers and there is plenty of light! The door shelves on the fridge side provide LOTS of additional space for everything from gallon size milk to all the usual condiments. The price point was also good! The side by side fits the needs of our two person household with plenty of space in both sides, however, I'm not sure it would have been large enough when we had our two children at home. The only reason it got a 4 star from me was that it can be a bit noisy at times, particularly when the ice maker is functioning. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase!

It was the only refrigerator that fit my criteria and was available immediately during the pandemic crisis when my previous refrigerator quit cooling. I needed a refrigerator fast. I would have liked to have more of choice, but this refrigerator has worked out pretty well. It is a nice looking refrigerator. However the freezer is a little smaller than I would have liked. Also it is a little noisy when cooling. Other than that I am happy with my quickly purchased refrigerator.

This refrigerator definitely keeps frozen food frozen and cold food cold! We have previously had Kenmore refrigerators that did not and Sears would not fix it. Ice maker and dispenser work great! Previous reviews had issues with the compressor noise. Yes it is a bit louder than expected, but it did not bother us and has now faded into background. Also from another review an additional shelf would be good in the freezer which I agree so we will try to order one unless it appears to block airflow. Finally the Best Buy delivery was wonderful!! They were on time in the promised window, very careful to take care of our house, removed our old unit, and provided a comprehensive use explanation.

I have an old house with some space constraints, This was one of three models in stock that fit my size requirements and the only one in my size range with in door ice/water dispenser. The ice machine was on my must have list so this is the model I chose. Overall I really like it. The installation crew had it up and running within 30 minutes. After priming the water lines it started making ice within 8 hours. Performance has so far been excellent. As is the case with just about any side by side storage room is a bit of an issue and a couple of questionable design choices makes this particular model a bit of a challenge figuring out how I wanted to organize the contents. There's adequate shelving in the refrigerator side with 5 usable shelves counting the top of the deli/crisper drawers and 5 door bins. One of the shelves loses considerable space because of the light cover, this is also the case in the freezer where that is much more of an issue but I will get to that a little later when I review the freezer. The door bins were a bit of a challenge as they are not as easy to place as I thought they would be, the spacing for sliding them place is different for the two different size bins so you can only place certain bins in certain slots limiting the options for customizing bin spacing. It took some moving bins around a little until I found the configuration that worked for me. My only real fridge storage space complaint is the lack of a butter drawer. Now I am still trying to figure out the best place to store butter that doesn't take up valuable and limited shelf space. Note that the small bin packed in with the the fridge bins actually belongs on the bottom bin slot on the freezer door. It took me a minute to figure out where that went, lol! Now the freezer. It works great, came to the proper temp quickly, started making ice sooner than expected. As is expected with a side by side model freezer space is quite limited and it sure isn't made any better by the biggest flaw I found with this model. There are 4 usable shelves including the top of the bottom pull out bin and 3 bins that slide into slots at the bottom of the door. The limited door bins are expected as the ice maker is in the door which is good as that frees up a little of that precious shelf space. It's the shelf space that's ridiculous. The bottom pull out bin has such a narrow base compared to the top opening that I am not even sure what it will be useful for. One of the already tiny shelves has at least a third of it's space taken up by the light cover no matter how I tried to rearrange the shelves. Which leads to my biggest complaint. While there are 3 adjustable shelves there's enough placement slots for at least 1 or even 2 more. No matter how those 3 shelves are moved around there's a huge vertical gap between a couple of them where another shelf is definitely needed. I looked into ordering another shelf and they are ridiculously expensive. The cheapest option was the big online retailer starting with A which sells it for between $90 - $100 which is still a crazy high price for a little freezer shelf! For the relatively high price of a fridge in this size range the lack of just one more freezer shelf is pretty unforgiveable. I am going to try an experiment and ordered a tempered glass cutting board the same approximate size as the freezer shelf and I'll see if it fits when it arrives in a few days, If it does I'll update this review. The control panel on the door is easy enough to figure out though I am sure I will need to look up the directions for resetting the water filter life when I need to replace that. The air filter is a nice touch though I have not a clue what the expected life span is for that. I've not had any issue at all with the water/ice dispenser. The ice dispenser is a little louder than expected but that's certainly not a deal breaker. The measured fill setting for the water is kind of great and an unexpected touch. You'll definitely need to calibrate that to get the correct volume setting after your water dispenser is fully primed and running. Mine was so far off it was funny, an 18 oz glass was saying it dispensed 60 oz! The calibration process was however super easy and now the 8 oz factory setting for measured fill dispenses exactly 8 oz. It's also easy with a touch in the display panel to change the dispense amount every time you use the measured fill so despite the inability to change the factory setting of 8 oz it's still an easy process to dispense precisely the amount you need. Overall though despite the lack of a much needed freezer shelf and a want but don't need butter drawer I am happy with this purchase. It fits where I need. It looks great and the finish is definitely finger print resistant.

I loved my purchase of the whirlpool refrigerator. What an improvement from the one I bought years ago. The ice machine and water dispenser are quiet, and the light on them is a nice touch. It has plenty of dept, what gives me so much room! I am definitely recommending it to others in my building! Thank you Best Buy for all your help!!

I've had this fridge for about 3 weeks and my only complaint is that it is noisy which takes some adjustment. The compressor on the fridge may be smaller and as a result, it runs constantly. It is quite for about one and half ours in increments. On a positive note, I like the size and the elegant look. I purchased two additional shelves for the freezer side and one additional clear bin for the fridge door. When the fridge was delivered, the truckers overlooked leveling it, so I called Best Buy Geek Squad who came out and took care of it. Now I can open the fridge door without it rolling towards me.

We bought this fridge because it was literally the only counter-depth model they had in stock in our price range, and our freezer had just suddenly died. It will work for us, but I'm disappointed we didn't have more options, because this would not have been my first choice. First, there are some positives - The door hinges are designed so that you don't need a lot of extra gap between the fridge and the counter/wall to open the doors. Most fridges require a gap the size of the thickness of the doors in order to open properly, and it can be a problem if your fridge needs to fit into a narrow space where it butts up against a wall. We had been told that GE was the only brand with that type of door hinge, so we were happy to find this Whirlpool one also works that way. The water dispenser has a feature that allows you to pre-set a pour size, if you need to fill a particular glass or pitcher regularly. It's a handy feature for measuring out water for a pot of coffee at 5 a.m. when you're too sleepy to pay attention to what you're doing. It tells you how many ounces of water it's dispensing into your glass. I can't think of a good reason why I need this, but it's nice to have one gimmicky fun feature on a major purchase that is otherwise no fun at all. The dispenser also accommodates taller pitchers/glasses than some of the other models we saw. The finish matches our other stainless steel appliances reasonably well. (We discovered that just buying the same brand as your other appliances doesn't guarantee this, as brands change things up every few years.) The brushing pattern on the stainless finish is horizontal, as opposed to vertical, so you might want to pay attention to this if you want your mix-and-match appliances to sort of match. The fingerprint-resistant stainless finish is a good feature. It will still get fingerprints, but they don't show up as well, and they should wipe off more easily. (My old Samsung was just regular stainless, and it was miserable to clean and always looked terrible.) Also, it's not real stainless steel, so magnets will stick to the front, if you're into that kind of thing. Now the negatives: We were trading down from a French door style, so we knew there would be less room because side-by-sides don't use the space as efficiently. But I was a little shocked at how much less space there really is. My husband and I can make it work, but I don't know if it would be sufficient for a family. Also, as other reviewers have said, the freezer side could use another shelf or two, and they're not cheap to buy separately. If you need a counter depth model and you're only looking at a side-by-side over a French door style to save a little money, you might find that the savings aren't worth all the storage you're going to give up. You have to push surprisingly hard on the water dispenser to get it to work - hard enough that I worry it could break the glass. I've been pushing the dispenser button with one hand while holding the glass with the other, which is a little awkward. None of the glass shelves extend or pull out, and there's not a lot of flexibility as far as where you can put them. However, the trade-off for that is that the bins on the door are very deep and hold a lot of stuff. This is a nitpicky thing, but there's no butter compartment. I wasn't mad when they stopped making egg compartments because those were stupid, but I'm going to have to get used to not having a special place for my butter and tiny things that might otherwise get lost. It didn't come with the screws required to attach the door handles. I realize this was a mistake and not everyone will have this problem, but it speaks to poor quality control. Also, Best Buy doesn't take responsibility for that issue. You have to contact Whirlpool directly, and I ended up just buying the screws from an appliance parts site because it was faster/easier. But my biggest complaint is that it's really loud. Some other reviewers have said theirs is quiet, which I don't understand. I can hear mine from the next room. The compressor never shuts off, and it rattles and buzzes like my 8-year-old Samsung did in the days before the freezer died. I was worried mine might be defective, so I contacted Whirlpool. They said it's normal for newer model refrigerators to be noisier because they're more energy efficient. (???) Maybe it bothers me more than others because I'm noise sensitive. But I do think if it were in a a studio apartment where you sleep and watch TV in the same room as the fridge, it might be a real issue to consider.

Good Idea - Bad Deliverable - Loose 30% space

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Ok. I had high hopes for this fridge. My wife and I couldn't decide between the Samsung and this Whirlpool counter depth model. I talked my wife into getting the Whirlpool (she was leaning toward the Samsung) because of my positive brand experience with Whirlpool over the last 15 years I thought I would make a good decision and gain a little street cred with my wife. I was mistaken... This fridge doesn't come with all the shelving and bins you need. Issues: 1. Freezer Space - being a counter depth model you are already going to give a little here... But Wow! You will loose half of your freezer space do to lack of shelves. Pic provided. 2. Air Filter - missing. Whirlpool talks about how fantastic their air filter is... 15 times better than Baking Soda but it doesn't even come with an air filter. Air filters can not be that much... 3. Fridge Door Space - again you are already giving up space as a counter depth model but you are loosing about 40% of your available door space due to missing two additional door bins. See pic. 4. Fridge Missing Shelf - ok, could be splitting hairs here but could use another fridge shelf above the pizza box in the pic provided. So of the 20.5cuft available you will loose at least 30% of that because the fridge doesn't ship with the necessary shelves. This is more like a 15cuft fridge with a heavy price tag. You can say, "Ok, Chris. Why don't you get some extra shelves and be done with it." Good point, I was going to do just that... until I saw the Freezer shelves are $75+ each x 3 missing shelves = $225. Fridge shelf = $75. Fridge Door Bins = $30+ x 2 missing = $60. For a whopping $360 in missing shelves and bins. My issue is this is a $1600 fridge ($1400 on sale) and now this fridge is almost $2000 to take advantage of the promised 20.5cuft. Look I was trying not to keep 'Old Glory' in the garage (as a second fridge) because of space/electricity/environment. But now I don't have a choice. 'Old Glory' (my old Samsung) is just humming along in the garage just taunting my Whirlpool with it's numerous shelves and bins. Almost showing off with the he amount of popsicles and ice cream and frozen steak and pork loins it can hold. Just plain sad :( how Old Glory makes a mockery of the situation. I actually thought I heard my Whirlpool cry but realized that was the ice maker filling with water. Personal note: Save yourself some irritation and get the Samsung RS22HDHPN. $1900 but you will be able to use all the space. It comes with shelves! By the way, in case you are wondering, the air filter is $8.00 on Amazon so you really are at $2000 for this side by side. (For a smaller fridge)

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the ice is noisy. Not that I don't expect to hear it at all, but I live alone and on several occasions in the middle of the night, the ice drops into the ice holder and it scares me. I don't feel like I should be able to hear that with two walls in between and doors closed. Other than that, it's a really nice fridge. I went from a large SubZero to this, so I was a little concerned about being able to fit everything in it, but it is pretty spacious, and that hasn't been an issue. The ice maker does take up quite a bit of space in the freezer side, but there is still plenty of room in the freezer for me.

After having this fridge now for about a month, I really like it. It looks good and people comment when they come to visit. The water and ice dispenser is very nice- many options, and automated fill level is really convenient. Just set a glass, set level and walk away while it fills. The best part is the way the shelves, drawers and door storage is organized. it makes for a very efficient use of space, visibility and accessibility of items.its very easy to see everything with LED lighting in different areas. The price is a great value, especially when on sale.

I purchased this refrigerator as an open box item in the recent open box items sale and so got a pretty decent deal. It did have a dent on the side but no other imperfections. It is otherwise a very nice looking fridge. The refrigerator itself works perfectly fine and keeps the items in it cool. When the compressor runs, it is kind of loud which I think is not unique to this refrigerator since I have a GE counter depth and it makes about the same noise. I haven't hooked up the water line yet and so don't know or can't comment about the freezer and its capability.

Our kitchen has a very tight space where only one size refrigerator will fit - the original was 1990 vintage and still works, but we wanted a replacement before it failed. This was the only one that fit - hinge height was an issue for other brands. I only had to trim a tiny bit from the overhead cabinet and it fit fine. Setup was easy. It works great, has more space inside than the old one and it looks great.

Had to purchase a refrigerator quickly. Was told by two repairmen to purchase Whirlpool. Had a french door refrigerator but decided to go with a side by side again. Fits perfect in my kitchen. Wish the freezer had more drawers instead of just shelves. Water dispenser dispenses in ounces that you select. Like this feature. Like the refrigerator but motor slightly louder than my old fridge. Also like ice maker in the door not taking up space in the freezer.
