Customers are saying

Customers are pleased with the Cabrio 4.8 Cu. Ft. 26-Cycle High-Efficiency Steam Top-Loading Washer's large capacity, excellent cleaning performance, and quiet operation. Many appreciate its ease of use and the added benefit of the steam feature. While some noted that the spin cycle could be improved and expressed preference for an agitator-less design, the positive feedback on other aspects outweighs these concerns. The price point also receives favorable comments.

I don't usually write reviews but I have to say I love this washing machine so much I just had to. My laundry is cleaner than it's ever been. I can fit a king size comforter in it. What used to be 2 loads of laundry is now 1. I highly recommend this machine. I'm hoping my dryer goes out so I can justify buying the dryer to match.

    Hated this machine

I just purchased this machine last week. Husband is a drywaller so work clothes need a good soaking. This machine has a deep water, presoak option. First time I tried this, water level was at that of basic wash (not covering the clothes), which does not clean the drywall from the clothing. Second time water filled to a deep level (about 4" from rim) but then was immediately drained, and washer started its cycle (which wasn't the soak option) without any water at all. Third time worked, and it was wonderful. Fourth time, was the same as first, low water level, but this time I was watching (although the top of the washer is a dark glass, you can still see inside the washer). A sweatshirt was pushed over by the water as machine was filling, and the shirt fell over the sensor in the center of the tub, (you have to place the clothes carefully around the sides of the tub so as not to cover the sensor) and I suppose that threw the sensor off. The important cycle, for me, was the soak cycle because the regular cycle just doesn't clean the work clothes. I don't have time to stand around to be sure nothing has been pushed across the sensor while the machine is filling. I want to throw the clothes in, walk away and trust the machine is doing its job. This machine is going back along with its Whirlpool dryer mate whose computer panel became stuck on the Steam Fresh cycle. They offered to send a repair person to fix it. No thanks. It's new. It should work already. How does it happen that BOTH washer and dryer are duds? The nice thing is that Best Buy had no problem taking them back. They'e going to pick them up in a couple of days and even refund my dryer hookup fee.

To say disappointed is an understatement

This washer has an inefficient water delivery system. After trying all the tricks including running the washer clean cycle, this will be returned to Best Buy. Being new to HE, I knew there was a learning curve until I figured out it was the washer that was dumb, not me. Unless you use deep water, the washer does not fill with enough water to sufficiently wash the clothes. Using pre soak, I found that, as it goes through its extra motions, clothing at the top outside of the drum is bone dry in most places. This is with the machine loaded at half fill. How do you pre soak dry clothing? My first few loads required multiple washings as it appeared that the water level was so lacking that it was unable to effectively rinse the clothes leaving only what I can describe as mud-like streaks on heavier items near the bottom outside of the drum where most of the centrifugal force is. I changed laundry detergents from my much trusted Tide to Persil to test to see if the detergent was the issue. It was not. Most clothes were not even drawn into and up the center impeller so received no wash action with the exception of the vibration which is not enough to clean clothes. Thinking that the issue was the small load sizes usually less than half the drum, I continued to the load that would guarantee a full basket on this machine. Set at bulky, deep water, and pre soak, I found the action to be the same. Most items did not come clean, pet hair was simply redistributed to the remainder of the load and clothes came out with streaks that did not exist prior to washing. In the photo below are a pair of black jeans, turned inside out prior to laundering with the proper amount of HE Detergeant. I have no idea of what the substance is as it had a clay like feel to is so it was certainly not lint. If it is Detergeant, it is left as a result of the poor water efficiency in the rinse for this machine. Of course the jeans needed to go through another wash to remove whatever that is. Having to wash items multiple times and set loads to Deep water to simply get an effective clean makes this washer much less efficient in every way than the 20 year old, low budget Hotpoint that it replaced.

washes clothes excellent. Uses little water, and though my clothes are wet when done, the spin cycle does an excellent job at getting water out. My clothes dont seem to require as much time in the dryer. Easy controls too! I just wished there was a way to control the volume of the beeps (alittle on the loud side). BB delivery did a great job too!

    Good but doesn't like comforters

I've had this washer for about three weeks and it does a good job washing loads of clothes that you've placed carefully in the tub. It did malfunction quite badly though when I tried to wash one thin cotton comforter which didn't even fill up a third of the wash tub. I used the correct bulky/sheets cycle and placed it in carefully, being sure to wind it around the bottom of the tub as evenly as possible but once the item got wet the machine sensors went goofy and started continuously filling with water, then draining, spinning for 5 seconds, and adding time back to the cycle which continued on for hours until I noticed it taking way too long to complete. I finally had to shut the power down to drain the machine and wring the comforter out by hand in the bath tub. I will probably keep this machine because it does a good job with normal clothes loads but buyers beware if you're thinking about washing bedding items in it.

I can only wash 1 king size sheet and 1 pillowcase at a time. Most of the time there are areas on the sheet that aren’t even wet! It is a large capacity tub and I use deep water setting.

    Noisy Washer

We bought this HE washer because we had limited space in our laundry room and it has a nice, sleek look. It's been a disappointment since the first load. It sounds like it's off balance, but isn't. Extremely noisy! We also purchased the matching drier. The door is difficult to open and close. Be sure to check out all characteristics of washers and driers before purchasing!

    Great features, but...

I immediately fell in love with this machine and all its features. I could do fewer loads due to the large capacity (I do love the capacity). But...after 2-1/2 months it died. It's obviously still under warranty and Whirlpool customer service got me set up with a repair technician. Unfortunately it died during a load and my wet laundry is locked inside until the technician comes. While I was on hold with Whirlpool customer service the recording said that I needed the model # and serial # of my machine for the cs rep or I would have to hang up and call back when I had the information. Well, guess where the serial # is? INSIDE THE LOCKED LID! I'm just hoping it's something that can be easily fixed.

I purchased this washer in June and am delighted with it. I read the manual carefully before using it and have had excellent success. The clothes come out very clean. If you use high efficiency detergent in the amounts recommended, clothes will come out perfectly. I am so glad this is the washer I chose when my old one died.

    Worst appliance ever

We replaced our Kenmore of 25 years which stopped running hot water with Whirlpool Cabrio 4.8 2 wks ago. Happy with a new purchase hoping to improve our laundry performance before very first laundry. Since the capacity of a new machine is very large with incredible features , I decided to get a make over to my 3 cotton fall coats. My old Kenmore did really good job washing coats. Well, machine runs really quiet, long, but doesnt do the main job- washing clean. My coats had HE detergent soils left, very wrinkly on lowest spin settings, and smell like concentrated softer. I had to run the machine 3 times to rid of those spots. Water economy or electricity? Machine doesn't rid clothes of antiperspirant marks and gym clothes smells like sweat. I was looking through the lid and noticed that clothes doesnt really move until spin cycle when it pushed against the walls.Reason for giving a 1 star is the Best Buy customer service. No complaints . Pick up tomorrow. I quit... We went to the local appliances store and bought old style commercial Speed Queen 3.3 with agitator ( $200 more expensive )which fills with the water all way up.Delivery tomorrow as well. Will see how this will go. Will post update.

    Not for heavily soiled clothes

Bought this washer a month ago to replace an agitator machine that had died. Unfortunately, I have been very disappointed with how it manages heavily soiled clothes. I knew there would be a learning curve with an HE washer and tried all the options, but sadly heavily soiled clothes remain stained after washing. I've tried different detergents, steam wash, deep water, double wash, extra rinse, only washing one item, soaking clothes before moving them to the washer to steam wash, running the maintenance cycle AND then washing clothes. Sadly, it doesn't matter.... any dirt stains on the clothes going in are still there coming out. Dirt stains - not wine, not blood, not ketchup - nothing that a normal washer with proper detergent shouldn't be able to handle. As for casually worn clothes without stains - I can say that they look the same going in as coming out. They smell clean and don't have new stains, so the assumption is that it is working. I did call Whirlpool support and was told that I did try everything that they would recommend and that there wasn't anything more they could suggest. So if you need a washer for casually worn clothing - not heavy duty - it works. Anything more, sadly it doesn't seem to.

    Have had better!

Clothes don't move from top to bottom of the wash basket in a full load. I have placed bold prints on top of the load, & that's where they are at the end! The items at the bottom get all the washing action in this agitator-less machine. Have not washed a bed spread or quilt yet. They likely won't move in the wash basket. Had a dirt smudge on the leg of my jeans; still there at the end of the cycle. Are my clothes clean after just laying in soapy water? Not. My 16 yr. old front loader got my clothes spotless, less water, less HE detergent. Terrible tangling, twisting & wrinkling of clothes with this Cabrio. Am not impressed with the steam feature. Digital controls don't show at what point the cycle is. The manual is not very helpful, e.g. what constitutes a full load? Am I satisfied with my purchase? No. Can I give it a minus one stars?

      Hello,
      Thank you for the review.
We are sorry you are unhappy with the design of the washer. The Department of Energy standards state how much water any water-based appliances can use, and our washers meet all of their stringent guidelines. We would recommend balling up the clothing similar to the size of a soccer ball, and place around the agitator one at a time. We would also recommend stacking it up so it is around the sides and the agitator plate is visible with all of the clothing around it. Do not fill up past the 2nd to last row of holes in the basket to help avoid overloading. The bulky cycle will allow more water to enter the tub, but will not spin on the highest spin setting. We are sorry that you are unhappy with the design, and can note your concerns. WhirlpoolBrand

Pleased with 1st HE Washer and Dryer

I am very pleased with the washer (and matching dryer). I read all the reviews and was a little concerned, seeing this was my first HE washer. The biggest problem I have had is trying to determine which of the many options I might want to use. For those worried, I have used the Deep Water option many times on really dirty items, just to be safe. I am not sure it was necessary, because I have never had a problem with the clothes not being clean. If concerned, you can use all the following features at once: Pre-wash, Deep Water, Steam, and Extra Rinse. Again, not necessary, but it is good to know you could.

Worst washing machine I have ever seen

This is the worst washer I have ever seen. It filled with a little water and most of the clothes did not even get wet. After the extremely long wash cycle I ran it again with the deep water setting. This time the clothes got wet, but did not do anything. The clothes just sat there and did not move through the even longer (1:05 hr) cycle. I am returning this and getting the front load washer we were told was unavailable, but I have since found it at BB. Don't waist your money or time on this machine. I should have read the reviews of this machine first, bad move on my part.

This washer does take a lot long to wash (over 1 hour for Mix Loads), and even in light loads clothes come up dirty. Watch out your retail Return Policy before you buy this item, Neither Whirpool or Best buy let me return this item and it was order it less than a Month. Get rid of this washer before is too late.
