    Awesome Washer

    Posted .

I did a lot of research before deciding to by my Whirlpool Cabrio. I heard people say that their clothes didn't get very wet when washed and some didn't smell fresh. I don't know how that is happeneing considering the fact that the wqsher has a deep water setting for larger loads. This is the best washer I have ever owned and it works Great. It can also wash very large loads with no problem. I've washed kingsize comforters and blankets and it does an awesome job. Overall very impressed by this washer.

    Giant capacity, QUIET, stable

    Posted .

I replaced my fancy, stinky, otherwise effective front loader with this gem. I have washed the equivalent of 2 full loads of towels, jeans, winter coats and snow pants, mixed clothing, rugs, and dog beds in this behemoth. On its WOOL cycle, I washed a boiled wool coat with years of salt stains that our dry cleaner insisted could not be remedied. Voila, it's as clean as the day I bought it 20 years ago! No kidding. The Cabrio is nearly silent, and it spins out like a dream. Sometimes the clean clothes are barely moist! It uses a unique method to gauge how much water to use. It makes a muffled whining sound, which I liken to a scanner, then the water sort of sprays down onto the clothes rather than rushing in through a big hose. This has meant a MUCH QUIETER experience even for my daughter's room upstairs, which shares a wall with the washer inlet hose wall. We used to hear the rush of water and shudder of the valves as our old front loader switched on and off to fill and rinse. I think this Whirlpool Cabrio takes a more "thoughtful" design approach. The list of cycle options seems gratuitous until you read them and start to wonder how well you've actually been taking care of your washables. There's a ColorLast cycle that actually has preserved our many red shirts (Go, Bulldogs!) among other laundry items. I am not a big fan of the theory that one can really, really know exactly how clean clothes get, unless you're talking about stain removal (which, let's face it, has a lot to do with timing and pre-treatment products anyway), BUT I think my clothes must be cleaner since there isn't even a hint of my detergent or softener scents on my clothes, etc. afterward. Not that I'm wasting softener. I can tell it's working because the familiar dry Chicago winter static cling is absent since I bought this in December. The only caveat here is that when taking advantage of a machine that can wash larger loads, you have to consider your dryer's capacity, too. Previously, we had a double capacity washer & a triple capacity dryer. Because of that difference, the drying times almost always matched the washing times. But now with the Cabrio, which functions like a triple, you'd assume I am back to the dryer taking longer. Well, the Cabrio makes up for that annoying time gap by spinning out the loads like a boss. To wit, the digital timer on the machine is ACCURATE. If it says "22", your stuff will be done in twenty-two minutes, period. I do not hate doing laundry. But if you do, you'll be enchanted by the tones the machine makes upon pressing the selection buttons, hearing the cycle end chimes, and especially the lid-open sound when you take a load out. We say it's like angels just did our laundry, so pleasing! We bought this on sale for $450 the first weekend in December, so if you wait, it might go down in price again. I hope for your sake that $450 wasn't just a pre-holiday super special deal. Everyone else in the Chicago area wanted $550 or much more (!) at that time. Budget $30 for the *required* new attachment hoses, and $15 for responsible haul-away/recycling of your old machine.

I couldn't be more pleased with this washer. I was more than hesitant after reading some reviews but I'm chalking that up to misunderstanding a very different machine than previous generations of top load washers. The touch controls, yes, took some getting used to, but after giving up some control to the technology built in here, I found it out it JUST WORKS! I have done over 30 loads of laundry since this machine was installed, and I've not had one issue mentioned in some of the reviews. What's key here, I believe, is following instructions to the letter, taking some time to get acquainted with a new way of washing, and learning it's okay to not use a ton of detergent. (I CAN NOT believe how much I'm going to save on detergent btw, much less water.)

    Love it

I have only had this washer a month now but I am still in love with it. It has cute chiming sounds when pushing the settings. I would say it is decently quiet. I have mine in a laundry closet with accordion folding closet doors and you can hear it when you pass by it but it's not so loud that it is disruptive to your sleep or activities. It washes great! My previous washer was an LG that was leaving little pieces of dirt balls on my clothes, this doesn't do that of course. I have washed a large down king size comforter in it and it washed it just fine. I do prefer to use the Spin Speed setting on high. If you use the middle setting then your clothes will be soaking wet still. Unless it's a really small load of dish towels or rags. I also properly load my washer shaping the articles to be washed lining the drum. You can't just dump your clothes in or you will set loads off center.

    Large Washer

This is a huge washer I’ve have had it for about 2 months now. and I have to Be honest I’m not sure if I have used all 26 cycles but the cycles I have used are amazing. It washed clothes really well without the agitator. The con would be that is does have a loud clicking and I don’t see a rinse and spin cycle but that could be because I’m not doing something right. This washer also has a smart sensor. I placed a large quilt in and it washed and spins just fine. Even though I thought the quilt would be too heavy. This is a good washer for a Large family. I also love the quick cycle 37 minutes clothes are washed and cleaned. Love it.

I wasn’t sure what to think about my first HE washed but this is great. It accommodated my largest loads, but I feel better about washing smaller loads without wasting water and energy like my traditional washer. Love the softener dispenser (no build up like the agitator top of traditional washers)

    Jury's Out...

    Posted .

The jury is still out as we just got this washer today due to our old Cabrio washer leaking from the bottom with water flowing all over our hallway upstairs and seeping down into our living room the other day. Our smoke detector was not happy...drip, drip! Ugh. But the washer was about 10 years old, so we figured we'd be better off just investing in a new one. I loved that Cabrio otherwise. This is the newer version of that one, I guess. This one has a completely new panel, etc., but it's attractive and seems nice and easy to understand. It has some delicate, melodic tones that I'm sure you can turn off, but I do like a tone alerting me that the washer is done (to prevent clothes from sitting in it and getting moldy-smelling). And I've learned to always keep the washer lid open after every wash. There was a button on our old one that actually said "Pause" if you wanted to throw something else in, but with this one you have to hit a 'Hold to Start' button (which should say pause) instead. It works, but it's not very user friendly. Also, you cannot just hit spin without 'rinsing AND spinning.' Not sure why they would remove the spin-only button. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Unfortunately, they installed it but didn't balance it. After the installation, the installer told us to run an empty load first, saying this should be done 'to get it to balance itself,' and then he left. Seemed okay, but when I washed my first load of laundry, the machine shook all over during the spin cycle, and it was obviously unbalanced. We could attempt to balance it ourselves, but I don't think we should have to with a new washer. So we have to have a tech come out and, in their defense, they escalated the call. Going on the fourth day without doing laundry, though....eek! I do like the large drum. It's the same cubic feet as our old one, but this one seems much larger for some reason. I also like the white top. We had a see-through top on the old one, but who really needs to 'watch' their laundry being done? Also, the glass was constantly spotted. Although the load of wash I did was unbalanced, the clothes came out very clean, and that was in cold water. There were a lot of strange noises (which they do mention in the guide). The clicks and whirls, I'm used to. But I heard an unfamiliar one - almost like metal hitting the drum, followed by a rubber scraping sound during one cycle. It wasn't a loose coin or anything but sounded internal. It was a short, quick sound, but it didn't sound right. But even without that sound, though, I wouldn't say this is a quiet washer. The agitator seems pretty loud to me. All in all, I'm going to hold my final opinion and wait until the tech comes out and balances it. Perhaps all of these unusual sounds are due to the fact that it's unbalanced. So if you're interested, stay tuned for my yay or nay on this recommendation. I'll say yes for now, and remain cautiously optimistic.

Ok first let me say that the low profile is idea for shorter people, smaller spaces, senior, disabled people, or against the wall type arrangements. This washer is very quiet as long as you balance the load and the adjustable legs are properly adjusted. This is my first agitator-less washer. If your concerned about the wash quality , don't worry this has so many setting but not too many. Some of the other brands have way too many settings for my non tech savvy family members. Also a good washer too teach children the great chore of waging their own clothes. Yes!!!!!! This was a good smart purchase.

We have now had our Whirlpool - Cabrio 4.8 Cu. Ft. 26 cycle High Efficiency Washing Machine for 5 weeks now. This is absolutely the best, easiest to use washing machine I have ever owned. Programing is a snap and the extra large stainless steel tub is ever so easy to load. The slide dispenser actually works and leaves NO residue. I absolutely LOVE this washing machine.

    Love My Washing Machine

This washing machine is amazing and so easy to use. I went from washing one blanket at a time in my old machine to washing 3 double ones at one time. I went on a washing marathon when I first got it. I had several king size bedspreads that I had put off taking to the laundromat to use their oversized machines and washed them all in this one. I don't see why anyone has a problem using this. It is so easy as long as you follow directions.

Stay away from Whirlpool - Cabrio

    Posted .

I have a small family of 3 and had just moved into a new home. We needed a new washer and dryer set so after a little investigating we ended up going with this Whirlpool - Cabrio set. Bad move! Our washer is 1 year and 8 months old (almost still new) and it will no longer complete cycles. It just locks up into a fill / drain cycle. It started about 2 weeks ago on laundry day, after a normal load of laundry and the washer started sounding as if it was destroying our upstairs and making a buzzing / grinding noise. The whole house started to shake. My wife and I ran up stairs to see what was going on only to find our washer destroying itself. The drum inside the washer was so out of wack it beat / bent both side walls on the wash out a good 2+ inches. Water was going everywhere. We both raced to turn the hot and cold water lines off and kill the power to the washer. The washer was upstairs over top our great room in a log cabin with all wood floors and ceilings. If we would of been outside or something, this could of been a flooded home situation. We ended up getting the clothes out of the machine and I fired it back up to see if I could get it to drain. We were successful with that at least. All the water drained out no problem as long as I started it in the special rinse and spin cycle but turning off the rinse function. I let the washer sit for a day with no power to the machine. I fired it back up and started to test it to see if I could get it to perform any cycle functions or to see if it was shot. Low and behold this machine is toast. It now makes a loud buzzing noise and will not engage the different cycles it should go through once you start a load. It sticks on the fill up and will drain the refill over and over. It literally will do it all day long. I have never seen or heard of a washer destroying itself the way this thing has done. I'm happy to post pictures if anyone would like to see. Anyway the long and short is this was not cheap, not the most expensive either but for a family to spend this kind of money on an item and get less then 2 years out of it is just horrible. The machine has worked limited dutty, just blows my mind that this occurred but in reality we were lucky. Since we were close by and was able to stop it before it distroyed our laundry room or worse yet flooded our home. The pics are after I pushed the sides back in as far as I could get them. If this washer has any protective sensors on it to stop it from vibrating itself to death then a new kind of sensor needs to be used in the future.

As long as you load all items around the tub, in a circle, everything comes out clean, nothing tangled, and damp for fast drying. Uses very little detergent, liquid works best. I was able to wash a queen-sized comforter and sheet set together with no problems.

    Sorry machine

    |

Well for starters compared to samsung or lg this machine uses more water and electricity. Even with the first load some of the clothes were dryer than others and I think there were some legit spots that did not receive any water at all. Then to top it all off I started to get detergent stains on my clothes (I use warm water, HE detergent, and I use about half the recommended amount of detergent).

THIS MACHINE SHOULD BE RECALLED, CLOTHES COME OUT SPOTTY AND WITH DRY SPOTS, NOT CLEAN AT ALL, I'M HAVING TO WASH LOADS TWO OR THREE TIMES. WHIRLPOOL HAS SENT A TECHNICIAN THREE TIMES, THEY WILL COME AGAIN THIS WEEK BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO ACCEPT THE OBVIOUS, THIS IS A PIECE OF JUNK. DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY WHIRLPOOL PRODUCT, THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. WHAT'S WORSE BEST BUY IS SAYING THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE I BOUGHT IT ONLINE.

It does not even get the clothing wet. See my photo of the half dry blanket I just pulled out after an hour wash cycle! Other image is water level WITH me adding 3 buckets before agitation! This new smart weight sensing technology does not work! I have to hit hold button and dump 3 gallons of water in to trick the weight on EVERY LOAD. Some people put bricks inside. Watch videos and read threads of angry customers. I cannot wait for the class action lawsuit on this one. Do not buy! The clothing does not move around without the agitator, comes out smelling dirty and with dry patches. Even push button display is finicky and you have to press and press and press 5 times to select hot water! Who designs this stuff? What a joke
