I've only been using the portable air conditioner for about a month but it has been wonderful. It provides a "softer" cool temperature than the window unit I previously used. I do have to set the temperature about two degrees below where I want it but it is no problem. I have not needed to drain any water at all, even during the few days of 90* heat Vermont was experiencing.

I'm not sure what happened from the time the a/c unit left the warehouse and by the time I received it but it the box looked like it had went through some things. The box had oil stains on it and the straps were extremely loose. When I took everything out of the box all of the pieces felt a bit greasy. I inspected everything and besides being greasy nothing was broken or rattling, everything looked okay. After reading the instructions I turned on the unit and nothing but warm air blew out. I read reviews where it took about 30-45 mins for it to cool a room down so I let the unit run for about an hour and nothing but warm air came out of it. I'm not sure if something happened during shipping or if I received a defective unit but it did not work. I returned it for a Honeywell unit and that one works like a dream!

It's not set up yet! I had an afternoon appointment weeks in advance. The day before the installation I was called and told that they were arriving at 9am ONLY. I was told to wait June 24th to July 27th. Over one month and halfway through summer. This has been very stressful and I ordered multiple items and am enrolled in Totaltech. Totally a major bummer.

Very good job of cooling, tricky installation

The environment were using the unit in: Our Late 60's condo (top floor) so our ceiling (made of solid concrete & no insulation) becomes radiant as the day progresses. Meaning by 2:00pm the ceiling temperature will radiate 82 to 92 temperatures. Measures by thermometer attached to ceiling concrete (justifing installation of surface insulation in future throughout condo.) South Florida Humidity is generally 75 to 85%. Installation: Unit comes with 5 to 6' accordion hose (when fully expanded made of semi-rigid plastic) There is also a window insert with 2 openings (one for hot air exhaust from the air exchange. So unit brings in air from outside keeps it within the unit and then exhausts the hot air taken from the coils to the outside. (this process occurs fully outside in a wall unit or in the outside box unit of a central AC) The plastic insert has 2 side panels that allow the unit to fit many windows. Unfortunately our's was way too big (again a function of a 60's condo in florida) I was able to use some foam to fill in the gaps until i could go to the store and buy a piece of wood that would bridge the gap and some foam to seal the window (this is going to be there at least for 3 or 4 months and I don't want to have it leak air if i can easily prevent it. So I cut holes for the 2 hoses and attached them to the wood board, the board was already but to length at my big box home improvement store and a little drilling and i had the hole cut out. problem solved and installed. For less extreme environments the included kit will work in many climates. Results: Last week was our first real bit of heat for the summer which ended the week Thursday (low 75 high 87) and Friday (low 74 high 92) and the ceiling radiating down 85 on Thursday and 90 on Friday. With that the unit keep the temperature at 77 all day at desk level (also have a thermometer on the wall next to me) as i look up right now the ceiling is at 90 and my level is at 76. So as a result I can work my 10 hour days and not pass out from the heat! The unit also takes a lot of the water out of the air but I have yet to need to drain the unit. Maybe being somehow vented in the exhaust air exchange? Unit does have a remote control (all the adjustments are done with the remote) which is essential because there are just basic controls on the unit (Unit On/Off & LED On/Off) Presumably to keep little hands from changing the temperatures, etc. As I noted you can TURN OFF the Led light so it won't bother those who are kept awake by other bright LED's in a bedroom (or if you just ind the lights distracting) Cold Air exhausts from the top of the unit in a basic 180* distribution (non oscillating) That Remote can also snap into a inset in the top of the unit just behind the vent at the top. (if you tend to lose remotes) Lastly Energy Impact: This month has been substantially higher than prior month but comparing a full week of use with this unit and being able to reduce usage of the central AC has actually resulted in a slight savings. So overall very happy with this choice. *Note that single hose units will not perform the same*

I am pleased with my purchase. It cools my apartment down right away. It is very quiet. Looks very well made. Easy to set up except for the hose connectors. Once they are on they were hard to remove. The little buttons do not depress enough to twist the hose connector off. I also like the fan only feature. I wanted the dual hose feature and the remote control feature.. The price was great!

    Works...for a year

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Pros: Dual Hose, easy to install, easy to pull out filter and clean, easy to use. Cons: Loud (managed to dampen the nose with towels wrapped around the hoses), I had to empty it frequently during the summer (that's to be expected in Texas). Not easy to pull apart and clean. No replacement parts to find online and no real way to fix things yourself if something busts. (The warranty only covers the first few months if you need to send it to Whynter to get repaired. So if you miss the window you're going to have to hand out a lot of money to ship it back to them, maybe the same amount that you spent on the unit itself. The same can be said if you call around and ask someone to inspect and repair the unit.) I bought this originally to keep one specific room in the house cooler than the others. This room is directly in the sun all day long and has three large windows. Originally, the first year the unit worked perfectly fine, even for Texas. However, after one year of year round use this product no longer works like it used to. The air that blows into the room is just kind of cool, not frigid cold like it used to be. I didn't move the product or put it in storage once, so the only thing I think of is that the unit has run out of refrigerant and there's no real way to replace that without professional help and without the proper replacement parts. I'm disappointed that I can't find parts myself and fix it because it's not a bad unit and it did it's job fine for a whole year. It's just unfortunate that after a year the refrigerant is probably all used up and there's no real way to find and buy replacement parts online. It's only logical, in my opinion, that when you put as much money into a product that you should be able to fix it with as little hassle as possible.

Good Portable AC with good cooling power

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Best buy has the best price for this Whynter AC compared to other online stores, they have free shipping and reward points as well. Unit arrives in 7 days after my order, install it in my small 200 sq feet room. No other portable AC works except this Whynter portable AC. The reason is because this model has the "dual" hose which resolve the "negative" pressure issue of the "single" hose portable AC. Single hose will continue suck in the hot air from anywhere outside your desired cooling area which makes cooling time much longer and the portable AC runs inefficient. When you are the traditional user for the portable AC with the hose to be installed on the window, you should be good and works out of the box.. For my special need, my room doesn't have window so I made two holes on the dry wall and vent out. Make sure you don't connect LONG hose just like me in my first attempt to install, the portable AC will STOP the condenser because the air flow is not strong enough because of the long hoses, I just let the hose vent through the dry wall hole and into the attic without further connect the hose to the soffit, The AC starts working flawlessly and now I have a very comfortable room.

    Cools w/out water build up!!!

If set properly - ie, do not set to dehumidify! - and is set to cool and fan only, it does NOT build up water - ie, no draining needed. This unit is dual hose and is designed to evaporate the water out of one of the hoses to the outside...awesome. Have been using for a week now and all seems well...excellent cooling and no water to drain! It is fast to start cooling and has a range of suitable controls via remote to adjust to your needs. Be sure to run the fan a while after stopping cooling and before turning off completely so as to evaporate any moisture inside the unit - is a preventative to hinder mold growth inside unit and keep it in shape for a longer life span. I also bought the 4 year extended Geek Squad replacement warranty. Am going to look into putting a mesh screen over the exposed exterior ends of the hoses (the ends sticking out at the window slider) - to prevent bugs or whatever from getting into the hose and unit itself...too bad such a addition (mesh filtration) was not already included (can be purchased as an accessory through Amazon I think).

I had no problems getting this setup and running in a very short amount of time. The room temperature was about 84 and outdoor temperature closer to 90. I had this running at full speed for almost an hour and the room temperature registered at about 77 degree. the full speed noise level ok. at regular or low speed it's almost quiet. I like everything about it so far.

    Excellent for a small bedroom

I purchased this to cool my insulated garage. The garage is 20x20 with 8' ceiling, and this unit barely cools it. I understand this unit is mostly designed for a bedroom or living room not a garage but I expected better cooling. If you are expecting this unit to be ultra quiet, forget it! This thing is lound, and doesnt blow air around much. It also draws significantly more electric then what is advertised, with my cheap electric meter I was reading upwards of 1500 watts! I noticed that the cooler outside being provided the lower the wattage, meaning during early morning 1100 watts and during hot afternoon 1500+. I've read from other manufacture that they have to dump water often, but with this unit I've never had to empty any water out! Overall the price to performance with this unit has left me satisfied 4/5.

We have this in our garage and it's done a solid job over that past 2 months of almost daily use. Definitely every bit an 11000 BTU unit if not more. Looks nice too, almost too nice to be in the garage. I may move this into the house. Got it on sale at BestBuy and it was worth it.

THIS WILL NOT COOL A 240 SQ FOOT ROOM BELOW 77 DEGREES ON A 97 DEGREE DAY. DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A 11000 BTU AC COOLS THE SAME AS MY OLD 9000 BTU UNIT. THE REMOTE CONTROL IS A JOKE CONSTANTLY RESETS ITS SELF. GLIPS WHEN SITTING ON THE AC. NO OTHER WAY TO CONTROL THE AC WHICH IS OBSURD. I WILL NOT PURCHASE THIS BRAND AGAIN. TALKING WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY REALLY DO NOT HAVE A ONE YEAR LABOR AND PARTS WARRENTY UNLESS YOU SENT IT BACK TO CALIFORNIA. OFFERED TO SEND PARTS AND I WOULD HAVE TO INSTALL THE PART MYSELF. If you are looking for an AC look elsewhere. I used this to replace my old AC that was 8,000 BTU that’s hose broke and this AC cant even come close. My room is only 225 sq ft and it barely gets cold. I have to have it on the lowest temp setting and a fan on in order for my room to cool down at all. This summer the heat outside rarely got above 90 degrees and yet the AC couldn’t cool down my small room. It’s also loud as all get out. I also have to dump the water out EVERYDAY or it shuts down. I’ve only had it for 5 months. Not happy. Not looking forward to probably having to get a new AC next year. Seriously terribly AC and I completely regret my purchase.
