A stellar performance from Witherspoon
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Though I enjoyed the performance from Reese Witherspoon, the movie as a whole drags a lot. It was a good movie and it is a bio picture, so I do account for that. You want to see where it goes throughout the movie so when it ends it is bittersweet but you just wanted a little more. I would recommend this to others but it is not for the young, and it is not a typical action adventure, though it is full of adventure. I may watch it again but it will be a while before I do. The extras were interesting and probably be seen first to get the scope of this movie. I saw the movie first.

Amazing true life story
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The wild is a wonderful film, truthful, rugged and at times difficult to watch. It's success is largely due to the incredible performance of its star, Reese Witherspoon. Seldom has a major Hollywood actor known for one genre taken on such an emotional soul-bearing role and succeeded so well. Her Academy Award nomination for this was so well deserved. The movie is one woman's trek thru the wilderness and the hardships she faces, emotionally and physically. Other than that, you should discover the stunning heart at the center of this film for yourself.

Beautiful scenery/entertaining movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this movie in the blu-ray version and that is the only way you should purchase a dvd now days. It is that much better. It only costs a little more. The movie is based on a book of a real life adventure of Cheryl Strayed. Reese Witherspoon plays this character and the mother of Cheryl is played by Laura Dern. Both women were nominated for awards for their performances. They are good. The movie/book is about a hiking journey of self-discovery and emotional healing from past life experiences and unhappiness for Cheryl. Beautiful scenery as you would expect on a hiking journey across southern California. Great music accompanies the movie. There are flashbacks to Cheryl's earlier years and the problems and unhappiness that she experienced. A very enjoyable and entertaining movie to watch.

The Wild in Wilderness
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyer's Club, Young Victoria) was an unlikely match up with the spunky, blonde Reese Witherspoon but then so is Reese with the seriousness of the subject matter. Based on a memoir by Cheryl Strayed regarding her life cleansing hike on the Pacific Crest Trail, Reese had to scruff up her cutesy veneer to convince us she could ever be anything but the "It Girl." I was impressed by her transformation and determination. Giving credence to the film is Laura Dern as her mother in another intense, compelling performance.

A Carthatic Journey Into Nature
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."Wild", based on a true story and autobiography of the same name, relates the tale of a young woman with a troubled life trying to put her emotional baggage in the past and make a new beginning by completing a monumental hike (with tons of real baggage) along the Pacific Coast. Reese Witherspoon does an excellent job portraying the troubled woman, with plenty of comic overtones as she, an admitted "city girl", struggles with basic (and advanced) camping skills. A great story has become a great movie. Look for the author's cameo!

A movie so good, I want to read the book.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Reese Witherspoon does an outstanding job with this story. Cheryl Strayed's story is about more than a hiking trip. It is a story of coping with loss and deciding to transform herself through this rugged hike in the wilderness. Experienced hikers will note that Cheryl made some mistakes, but ultimately finished the trek and learned some things about herself and others along the way. The movie did not pull any punches when showing Cheryl's descent into drug use and promiscuity and the R rating is appropriate.

A Fascinating Walk Toward forgiving yourself
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After seeing Wild, I read the book, which is something I rarely do especially on autobiographies. The movie interweaves Cheryl Strayed's 1000 mile walk over the PCT and flashbacks to her life to explain why she decided to do the walk. The pacing kept me interested and awake (I fall asleep during movies sometimes ever since I turned 65). Ms Witherspoon's performance was very believable with her face gradually showing all the exhaustion of the walk and her life until she forgives herself. Even though the extras were short, they are very interesting and worth while watching, especially the scenes of the actual Cheryl Strayed on the set watching Ms Witherspoon nailing one performance after another. Her tears were heart felt.

Enjoyable film
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an enjoyable movie and I’m only giving it four stars because the 4K transfer could certainly be much better. However this was in the early days of 4K physical media releases so that could be an explanation as to why it hardly looks better than it’s Blu-ray counterpart. That being said it’s still the best way to experience the film

Kept my interest
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would actually give this a 3 1/2 if I could. Better than average. Great acting. Good story line, and of course based on a real story. I have done some backpacking and even carrying a 20 pound pack for a few days was quite challenging, so I can't even begin to imagine carrying the weight she did, but apparently it was based in fact. Gave a true sense of what it was like to do that kind of thing in the day and age before cell phones and the internet.

Better than I expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a bit apprehensive about buying a movie about a woman hiking for a couple of hours. At a price under $10 - it was lower enough for me to pull the trigger. I've been a fan of Reese Witherspoon from the day I saw her in the movie about Johnny Cash, but I haven't been impressed since that movie. Now I'm back. She's very good in this movie. With the flashbacks, her acting and Laura Dern's acting this movie clipped along very nicely.

Discovering Inner Strenghth movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've seen this movie sometime ago, but when it came out in 4K, and I have since purchased a 65" 4K Samsung TV, I had to buy it. Based on a true story, Reese Witherspoon gives remarkably honest performance. Faced with much failure in her life, through much fault of her own, she sets out on a 1000+ mile hike along the Pacific Crest Trail, with no survival experiences under her belt. I think, more to punish herself to feel the pain until finally it makes her stronger for finishing the challenge. A very good movie for outdoor enthusiasts. I enjoyed watching it again, and in 4K.

RIVETING PFORMANCES
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We Oregonians tend to pride ourselves on our pioneer spirit, and there's probably no finer contemporary example than that of Cheryl Strayed. Wild is an unusually compelling film, one that ping pongs rather effortlessly between its travelogue elements and the somewhat more labyrinthine journey Strayed takes through her roiling psyche. The film has a rare feel of authenticity, one that is certainly aided and abetted by riveting performances by the Oscar nominated Witherspoon and Dern. Technical merits are outstanding, and the supplemental package is extremely enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Better than expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie exceeded expectations in many aspects, from the complexity of the story, performance by Reese Witherspoon, and production quality. Experience in outdoor activity will help in appreciation of technical nuances, but most mature audiences will enjoy it just for entertainment value. The fact that it is based on a true story only enhances your appreciation of the character and events.

Wild about Wild...and Reese in this role
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to have this for my own to watch again and again. I don't identify with the pre-movie behaviors of the Cheryl Strayed character at all. It's hard to be sympathetic to her despite what she went through as a kid. I've known many people with similar childhoods who handled it without going out of control, so the film is not a tear-jerker for me. Here's what I loved this film: the woman's journey to find herself again. That is too good for words. We're here to grow. Reese Witherspoon and associates put this film together BEAUTIFULLY, ARTFULLY, SENSITIVELY.

Excellent find yourself story
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie is a great example of someone straightening out her life while in the process of achieving an applaud-able accomplishment. I have a dream of someday doing a through hike like this, and this is what drew me to watch the movie. It is funny and serious at the same time and has beautiful scenery. The character resolves many of the problems in life that most of us face. She constructively pulls herself out of a destructive state. I would recommend this movie; especially if you like this genre; think "Into the Wild" for example.

Grab a tissue box keep it by your side!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wild. Wild is a very well told story of a woman's journey of trying to strengthen and heal herself from destructive behavior. Beautifully shot. Great performances. Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern both nominated for Best performance by leading actress and best performance by supporting actress respectively. If you follow that sort of thing then this is for you

A woman's solo hike on the PCT & what she learned
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good story of a woman at a crossroads in her life and a decision to make a 1,000 mile solo hike on the Pacific Coast Trail. It tells her story of being on the trail and of what situations compelled her to make the hike. Reese Witherspoon does a good job in her portrayal of main character Cheryl Strayed and her encounters with herself and others along the way.
