This has been life changing for my 91 year old father in law. He can hear the tv and we can have conversations with him and he can hear and understand us! Better than his expensive hearing aids!

When I saw the Pocketalker Ultra personal amplifier it seemed like a great idea, and as it turns out, it is. It is an easy to use product that covers he basics - no bells or whistles here. This is intended to amplify sounds around you.
This unit comes with a few accessories including a mini foam-covered solo earbud, basic plastic folding headphones (think OLD airline headphones with foam covers at the ears), 12’ mic extension cord, lanyard to hang the unit and a belt clip. It would be nice if it came with a pouch to hold the accessories.
Extremely easy to setup - not requiring an app, just insert the 2 included AAA batteries, plug in your choice of headphone/earbud and turn it on. That is all there is to it. If you would prefer to use different headphones/earbud for comfort as I chose to do, you would need ones that use a standard 3.5mm mono jack. There is no bluetooth with this amplifier. It would be great if there was.
This amplifier works like a charm. Easy peazy, no fuss. I have used it in different scenarios including a home with one guest and it made it so easy to hear them speak. I used the 12’ extension to see if I could hear the tv better and I definitely could, but I would not use it again due to safety concerns with the cord across the floor. It does amplify ALL sounds around me, so I wouldn’t use it again in crowded situations where there are several people talking such as a group outing to a restaurant or a party.
Overall, this Pocketalker Ultra Personal Amplifier is quite simplistic which would make it a great help for seniors or others who don’t like to (or can’t) fuss with anything more detailed and/or complex. It works well and is useful, but for me - the headphones/earbud needs an upgrade for comfort, it could use a pouch to hold the unit and accessories, it could use an upgrade to bluetooth so it doesn’t have to appear so obvious to everyone that i'm using it and a wireless microphone would be amazing so that I wouldn’t have to stretch a long cord across the room. Because of the cons associated with this amplifier, for me personally, it is a good choice, but not the best.

When opening the box it reminds me of the portable radios sold in the 90's. The unit amplifies extremely well and is quite sensitive. The unit comes with many accessories that are very useful, however the entire kit is bulky. There is no bag or case to contain the many cords and keep them from getting lost. The quality of both the headset and ear bud is bad and has a "tinny" hollow sound. The treble and bass adjustment wheel is nice, but it only adjusts so much. It just makes things loud, but not clear if that makes any sense. Any movement by who's wearing it is louder than the environment that needs the amplification.
I had my husband try it out as he has hearing issues and the main reason I got this. He said he would only use it for hunting. It's far too sensitive to the movement of clothing so there's no way to amplify the The unit is not aesthetically attractive and reminds me of the old hearing aids of the 1960 era he says. After wearing the unit on my belt or clipping it on my shirt I found that merely walking was annoying because the unit amplified the sound of the unit rubbing against my clothing.
