I bought this because of reviews I'd read elsewhere. I live 30+ miles from Chicago so I needed a decent antenna to get all the available stations. The FlatWave AIR seemed to fit my needs.
I hooked it up temporarily in my office just to see what channels I'd get. I didn't pay much attention to the stations at the time as I was also testing Tablo for my home DVR and I was more excited about that than an antenna. I installed it on my roof to get the best signal possible. Tablo doesn't have a built-in/dynamic signal strength meter, so I hooked it up to my TV. I was shocked to see only 70% signal to Fox32 on a clear day. So I hooked up the included amplifier and my signal became non-existent. I pulled the amp back off and my signal returned to normal.
Not having any expectations of what my signal should be (I'm new to cord cutting) I wanted to see what other stations were available. Much to my dismay, I couldn't tune CBS?!?! Nearly every show we watch is on CBS. Because CBS is broadcast in VHF, it's always tricky in the Chicago market. I bought this antenna because it's to receive UHF and VHF signals. ####!
I replaced the existing cabling. I removed all splitters and couldn't get the signal any better. I worked with Winegard support and their solution was to install the antenna higher. It's already at the top of my house with a clear view of the eastern sky. I felt there was something defective with the unit and had hoped for better support from the manufacturer.
I returned the AIR (thanks Best Buy) and got a Mohu Sky 60 and couldn't be happier. Same location. Same cable. Same splitter. 98% signal and a LOT more stations (sadly I'm only using about 25% of the stations I'm picking up). Most importantly, I get CBS!

Your reception may depend on your location and your surroundings. If it works for you, then you don’t have to pay for HD local channels anymore.

This is an easy installation and it comes with an amp. Installed on front porch pillars and for my location it is marginal in the VHF-L range. Chicago channels 2 and 5 only work half the time. The range claims up to 60 miles, but with the towers being 48 miles from my location the VHF-L does not work very well. The range and small footprint were the reasons I chose this model; but have decided to go with a beam antenna. I checked recommending to a friend, but only if you live within 40 miles of the broadcast towers or you don't watch VHF-L channels.

I bought this product in August of 2014. I am very pleased with the Winegard Flatwave antenna. I installed it on my back deck and I now have 17 over the air HD channels ! The manufactures claim of a 60 mile range is accurate. I can pick up the signal of broadcast towers that are about 54 to 55 miles away from my home. There is only one channel I don't get and it is PBS. However that tower is over 70 miles away. I can enjoy watching Football for free again ! No more paying $$ 80 a month to the Cable and Satellite companies. BOOMER57
